"Li Aimei, your mother is looking for you." Li Aimei had just delivered a soft drink to a customer when a colleague called out to her.
Upon hearing that Li's mother was at the door, Li Aimei frowned, not expecting her to find this place.
I originally planned to go to the guesthouse to find Li's mother at noon. I thought that after waiting for so long, it was time to meet her and make things clear. I gave her about a hundred yuan and sent her away.
Who knew they'd find a disco?
Li Aimei stopped smiling and walked towards the door.
Li's mother looked terribly shocked. She saw a group of men and women dancing, drinking soda, and chatting in the disco, which she considered indecent and immoral.
Especially when I saw Li Aimei wearing shorts, a red shirt, and a disco outfit that showed her belly button, I just thought this woman was shameless. How could she have the nerve to wear such clothes?
I just felt that this disco was the same kind of place as before.
Li Aimei called out, "Mom."
Li's mother stared wide-eyed at Li Aimei in disbelief, her vision blurred, and she nearly fainted from anger: "You... Li Aimei?"
"It's me, what brings you here?" Li Aimei didn't want her mother to cause trouble in the store, so she planned to take her downstairs. They could talk about what was going on privately.
"If I hadn't come, I wouldn't have even known you'd been sold. You've brought shame to the Li family! Look at the clothes you're wearing, you're a disgrace!" Li's mother was agitated and slapped Li Aimei across the face.
With a loud slap, a handprint immediately appeared on his face.
A guest happened to be watching this scene and looked over out of curiosity.
Other shop assistants also frowned when they saw Li Aimei being beaten.
Zhang Qingwei was also in the store and immediately strode over: "Why did you hit her?"
"What's it to you if I hit my daughter?" Li's mother said defiantly, her eyes filled with hostility. "Come on, come back with me."
Li Aimei shook off her mother's hand: "I'm not leaving, I'm working."
"You're embarrassing yourself. Get out of here!" Li's mother couldn't stand her daughter's pathetic state.
Li Aimei denied it: "Mom, this is a new society now. I haven't disgraced anyone here. I haven't done anything immoral."
"Look at the state of your clothes! That bitch Yun Jin, she ruined you! I'm going to report her! I'll make sure she never has a good life! How could she do this to my daughter!" Li's mother was conservative and couldn't accept the open society of today.
The people who frequented the disco, upon hearing what Li's mother said, knew they were much like the old folks at home. They didn't care; they just enjoyed coming to the disco, and they hadn't done anything immoral.
"Mom, don't talk nonsense. Sister Yun Jin didn't harm me. If it weren't for her, I wouldn't have this job now. If you don't know, don't slander people." Li Aimei defended Yun Jin.
Li's mother was furious, she cursed and even hit people.
Zhang Qingwei couldn't stand it anymore and protected Li Aimei: "Auntie, calm down and talk about it. Aimei really didn't do anything shameful. Please don't hit her anymore."
"Who are you?" Li's mother questioned.
Zhang Qingwei stated responsibly, "I am someone who loves beauty, and my name is Zhang Qingwei."
"You're her boyfriend, but did I, as her mother, approve of that?" Li's mother looked down on Zhang Qingwei, who worked at the disco with Li Aimei. Even if he was handsome, so what? He was still an illegitimate man.
Zhang Qingwei: "......"
Li Aimei stated, "I don't need your consent. It's me who's dating, not you."
"Am I still your mother?" Li's mother retorted angrily.
Li Aimei sneered: "From the moment I was kicked out of that house, I was no longer your daughter. I know why you came here this time. You want money, right? I can give it to you. However, I hope you won't bother my life again in the future."
“Li Aimei!” Li’s mother roared.
Li Aimei didn't care: "Anyway, I won't go back with you. I'm going to stay in Beijing."
Li's mother's face flushed red and then turned pale with anger: "Li Aimei, are you going to sever our mother-daughter relationship?"
Li Aimei nodded: "Yes."
Li's mother staggered in anger: "Fine, break it off then! I don't want a woman as disgraceful as you. If you want to break it off, give me a thousand yuan, plus a five hundred yuan dowry. Otherwise, I'll take you with me even if I die here!"
As she spoke, Li's mother rushed to the second-floor window, not giving Li Aimei a chance to grab her, and straddled the windowsill: "If you don't agree, I'll jump right now and make sure you never have a moment's peace for the rest of your life."
Li Aimei was so angry that she stomped her feet after being threatened with suicide.
Zhang Qingwei said, "I'm willing to pay the bride price. I'll go get the money now."
Li Aimei pulled Zhang Qingwei back, saying, "Don't let her jump; she's too scared."
Enraged, Li's mother dangled her legs in the air, threatening to jump: "Try saying that again!"
Other onlookers egged him on: "Jump! It's only on the second floor, you won't die if you fall!"
"You might survive the fall but be crippled!"
"What's there to be afraid of? Being disabled is even better. You can't go out, and you can't cause trouble!"
"Exactly, exactly. How is working at a disco shameful? I think it's great."
"If the disco weren't hiring, I'd love to come here; the pay is high!"
Everyone started talking at once, and Li's mother was both angry and annoyed. She looked at Li Aimei and said, "You ungrateful wretch! I should have strangled you when you were born, so you wouldn't have been a disgrace."
Looking at her cursing mother and then at Zhang Qingwei, who insisted on giving a dowry, Li Aimei gritted her teeth and said, "Don't regret giving too much dowry later."
Zhang Qingwei smiled and shook his head: "No."
Li Aimei felt relieved: "Let's go, let's go get the money together."
