Li Aiguo and Li Aimei, brother and sister, brought He Tingchuan's clean clothes and went to the delivery room, only to find out that Yun Jin had given birth to a daughter.
The nurse knew immediately that the soldier was He Tingchuan. Besides his tall, handsome appearance, his attentiveness to his wife during childbirth left a deep impression on her.
Other expectant fathers were grumbling and complaining that their wives were giving birth too slowly, or that they had forgotten about their wives after having a son.
Only He Tingchuan was focused on whether his wife was alright, whether she was tired, or whether she was in pain. Although he didn't say it, the expression on his face betrayed his concern.
Even if they find out they've given birth to a girl who's not considered valuable, they still cherish her like a treasure, unlike other fathers who would say things like, "What a waste of money," "Why is it another daughter?" or "What's the use of a daughter?"
When Li Aiguo and his sister learned that they had a daughter, Li Aiguo frowned and said, "Watch your words later. Brother Chuan is definitely not happy that you had a daughter. Don't say anything wrong."
Li Aimei retorted, "Brother, you're the one who's wrong. Commander He and his wife both love daughters. They're not sexist."
Li Aimei spent the most time with Yun Jin, so she naturally knew what Yun Jin was thinking. She treated sons and daughters the same and would not dislike her just because she was a daughter.
Li Aiguo glared: "What do you know? Which man doesn't want a son? When I get married in the future, I must have a son."
“I don’t talk to people who favor sons over daughters. You better watch your mouth and don’t upset your sister-in-law and the others.” Li Aimei never expected her older brother to be this kind of person.
I never realized it before, but now I know he's so sexist.
Li Aiguo: "......"
The brother and sister brought a change of clothes to the ward and saw He Tingchuan guarding his wife closely. His little daughter was placed next to Yun Jin. With a glance, everyone else in the ward obediently dared not speak.
Li Aiguo was about to speak when He Tingchuan stopped him with a look.
Li Aimei smiled and whispered, "Congratulations, Commander He, on the birth of your daughter."
He Tingchuan smiled slightly and nodded: "Please keep an eye on my daughter and look after your sister-in-law. I'll be right back."
Li Aimei nodded with a smile.
He Tingchuan called Li Aiguo, who seemed hesitant to speak, outside and took the clothes from his hands: "Go back and tell your mother that Aimei needs to stay at the hospital to help take care of your sister-in-law and child. There are no vacant rooms at the hospital, so they can only squeeze together."
"With so many people around, it's easy to miss someone holding a child. I'll have to leave eventually, so it's more reassuring to have someone else watching over me."
Li Aiguo nodded: "Okay, that's what my sister thinks too. It would be best to have her stay and help out."
Thinking of something, Li Aiguo said, "Brother Chuan, don't overthink it. You're still young. If the first child is a daughter, the second one can be a son. There will be other opportunities to have a son in the future!"
As soon as he finished speaking, Li Aiguo had the illusion that he was being stared at by a ferocious beast.
He looked up and met He Tingchuan's deep eyes, which made him shudder: "Brother Chuan... Brother Chuan, why are you... looking at me like that?"
"Don't ever say such sexist things to me again. I never thought you were this kind of person. My son and daughter are both my children. I don't dislike my daughter. My daughter is doing just fine!"
“We don’t plan on having a second child, and don’t mention anything about a second child or a son to your sister-in-law. If she’s not careful, I might just give you a good beating.” He Tingchuan said this with a very serious warning.
Li Aiguo: "......"
How come Li Aimei got it right?
"What do you mean by not planning to have a second child?" Li Aiguo couldn't accept it.
"It means what you heard. You can have as many children as you want. I have a daughter, that's enough for me. Don't tell anyone about this." He Tingchuan took clean clothes to the bathhouse to shower and change.
There was no hot water in the bathhouse at the moment, but He Tingchuan wasn't afraid of the cold. He took a cold shower and scrubbed himself thoroughly, inside and out, and used soap again and again to make sure it wouldn't bother his wife and daughter.
When they came out, they all smelled nice.
I almost lost a layer of skin.
Li Aimei quietly lifted the swaddle blanket to look at her little girl. The little one was asleep, and her face was no longer as red as when she was first wrapped up. Her little face was fair and tender, and she no longer looked like a wrinkled little old man.
Having seen many babies, Li Aimei was certain that this little girl would grow up to be very beautiful.
With Li Aimei here guarding the place, Li Aiguo is just superfluous.
He waited for He Tingchuan to return before driving back, and told the people in the compound that Yun Jin had given birth to a lovely daughter.
When the women in the compound heard that it was a daughter, they were all gloating and secretly pleased with themselves.
I thought it was a baby, but it turned out to be a daughter.
Pshaw, who can't have a daughter?
Having a son is a real skill.
They were just waiting for He Tingchuan to look down on them, mother and daughter!
When Sister-in-law Li heard that Yun Jin had given birth, she was restless and conflicted at home, after all, she had promised to take care of Yun Jin during her postpartum period.
Now that we're alive, we can't just pretend it never happened, can we?
Just as she was struggling with her decision, Sister-in-law Gao arrived: "Is Sister-in-law Li home? This is what Sister Yun Jin asked me to give you. She said it's a recipe from when she was in postpartum confinement. She wants you to prepare according to it and keep it light."
Sister-in-law Li: "...I can't read."
This Yun Jin is going too far; she actually prepared this way well in advance.
Who does she think she is? She's not giving birth to my child, so why should I take care of her during her postpartum period?
Sister-in-law Gao had anticipated this: "It doesn't matter if you can't read. I'll read it to you, and you can just remember it. For breakfast, millet porridge with blanched vegetables; for lunch, vegetable noodles with an egg; and for dinner, a tomato and egg dish with vegetables and rice."
