Chapter 32 The Last Two Days

"Why did your sister-in-law seem unhappy when she left? What did Brother Chuan say to her?" Li Aiguo asked gossipingly.

He Tingchuan glared at him: "Why are you telling me about our marital affairs? Go train if you have nothing else to do."

Li Aiguo, caught in the middle: "..."

Li Aiguo had only taken a couple of steps when he was stopped again: "Your sister-in-law looks really unhappy?"

Li Aiguo nodded: "My sister-in-law usually has a smile on her face, but when she left just now, she was expressionless and her brows were slightly furrowed. She looked angry!"

Since you've asked, I'll tell you!

Li Aiguo didn't treat himself as an outsider: "Brother Chuan, don't be ungrateful. In order to come see you, your wife borrowed two packs of cigarettes from me for the political commissar. That's two packs! Usually, two cigarettes are enough for the political commissar, but your wife is so generous, giving him two packs in one go."

He Tingchuan: "..."

The political commissar, who had been dismissed with two cigarettes, appeared with a dark face: "So, I'm that easy to fool?"

The political commissar got angry and pointed at Li Aiguo, saying, "From now on, if you need anything from me, don't even think about asking me for two packs of cigarettes. No way!"

Li Aiguo: "......"

Oh, my Hua Zi.

He Tingchuan: "..."

What's the big deal about owing two packs of cigarettes? The main problem is that my wife is angry. Will she ever stop going to see the political commissar again just to see me?

How about we find something to do and have the political commissar locked up for a few more days?

Yun Jin was unaware that she had single-handedly broken the high standards of the First Artillery Regiment.

Later, the political commissar who would only accept two packs of cigarettes instead of two cigarettes as a gift became the most criticized person in the artillery compound.

That's outrageous! Those were two packs, not just two cigarettes!

...

Two days later, the artificial lake was filled in.

On the morning of the day the lake was filled in, Yun Jin woke up to find herself submerged in water. She thought she was dreaming and struggled desperately to climb ashore. The artificial lake had been filled in; how could she have drowned?

When she collapsed weakly on the shore, panting heavily, she looked at the lake with a pale face.

Just then, a person who was jogging passed by and asked, "What's wrong, sister-in-law?"

Yun Jin asked curiously, "Where is this?"

"The military dependents' compound of the Second Artillery Academy!" A jogger looked at Yun Jin curiously: "Sister-in-law, do you need any help?"

Yun Jin waved her hand: "I'm fine. I just accidentally fell. It's nothing serious and won't interfere with your training."

After saying that, Yun Jin, soaked to the bone, returned home under the curious gazes of many people.

Upon hearing the news, Li Aiguo rushed over. Yun Jin had already changed into clean clothes and washed herself.

Li Aiguo asked, "Is your sister-in-law sleepwalking again?"

Yun Jin nodded.

Li Aiguo's expression changed: "Is your sister-in-law alright?"

"fine."

"I heard that my sister-in-law came back soaking wet. Wasn't the artificial lake filled in? How did she get wet?" Li Aiguo was completely puzzled.

Yun Jin was speechless: "I dreamt I went to the artificial lake at the Second Hospital."

Li Aiguo: "...How about we fill in the artificial lake at the Second Hospital as well?"

Yun Jin: "......"

What a coincidence, that's what she thought too.

Unfortunately, it's very difficult to do.

Because of the artificial lake built in their compound, many people have been privately laughing at He Tingchuan and criticizing Yun Jin, saying that He Tingchuan is abusing his power for personal gain and only cares about his own interests.

After all, many people disliked He Tingchuan and were hoping he would be caught doing something wrong so that he wouldn't be promoted.

"No need. From now on, after dark, you can lock my door from the outside. As long as I don't go out, I won't sleepwalk anymore. Even if I do sleepwalk, it will only be in my own home." This was the best solution Yun Jin could think of.

Li Aiguo was about to nod when He Tingchuan's voice preceded him: "No need to lock it, I'll keep an eye on it from now on."

Upon hearing this, they turned around and saw He Tingchuan, who was unshaven, with hair covering his eyes and looking disheveled, appear at the door.

If you count the days, his confinement should indeed end today.

Yun Jia looked at He Tingchuan, whose skin had become several shades paler, and raised an eyebrow: "You're back?"

"It's good that Brother Chuan is back. With you here, I can rest assured. You two can handle things yourselves. I have something to do, so I'll be leaving now." Li Aiguo was a sensible person, and he turned and left.

Yun Jin thought that since He Tingchuan was back, she should at least show her appreciation: "Come over for dinner tonight, and your sister-in-law will show you her cooking skills."

Li Aiguo smiled and nodded: "Okay!"

Yun Jin then looked at He Tingchuan: "Do you want to tidy up your hair? It seems a bit long."

"Okay, let's book a table at the state-run restaurant while we're at it." He Tingchuan didn't want Yun Jin to be tired, having to cook for them while heavily pregnant; he was perfectly healthy and couldn't eat much.

"It's alright, I'll have Sister-in-law Gao help with the cooking. I'll just be your assistant." Yun Jin felt she had to host a dinner at home to show her sincerity.

He Tingchuan had no objections and continued the previous topic: "Did you fall into the water near the Second Hospital today?"

Yun Jin nodded awkwardly: "How did you know?"

"I heard about it on the way. Is he alright? If he's not feeling well, go to the clinic. Don't delay. After the baby is born, come back to Beijing with me to get checked out. You need to get treatment for this illness." He Tingchuan knew he didn't have time to stay by his side. After all, he was a soldier, and everything he did was for the country.

"Okay, I'll listen to you." Yun Jin nodded perfunctorily, thinking that her sleepwalking might be cured on its own after this month.

Others might not know, but Yun Jin certainly did; it was part of her character's setup.

When the cannon fodder's first wife was six months pregnant, she jumped into the artificial lake in the compound, killing both herself and her unborn child.

She calculated that she was already six months and twenty-eight days pregnant, which meant there were only two days left. As long as she could get through these two days, she wouldn't be controlled by the plot and forced to jump into the artificial lake, resulting in her and her unborn child dying according to the novel's setting.
