Feng Qianqian, who had just said she hadn't heard, turned to Sister He, who was giving Xiaobao a bath, and said, "Did you see the ring on Grandma's hand, Mom? You're so lucky now. Your sister Zizhen is so filial. She's only in college and she already knows how to be considerate of the elderly. She bought Grandma a ring."
"To be honest, I feel really ashamed of myself. I haven't done anything to show my respect to my mother and grandmother," Feng Qianqian said hypocritically.
Upon hearing this, Sister-in-law He exploded: "That ring was bought by Zizhen?"
Feng Qianqian nodded: "I heard it from her and Xiaoniangao. Didn't Mom know?"
Sister-in-law He's face turned ugly: "If I had known, would I have let her buy it?"
"I don't know who this child learned from. She's going to university this year and doesn't earn a single penny. All she knows is how to spend money extravagantly. Isn't she afraid of a famine later on?" Sister-in-law He was so angry that she immediately went to find He Zizhen.
Yun Jin was tidying upstairs with Xiao Niangao when she heard a commotion downstairs. When she went down to check, she saw Sister-in-law He scolding He Zizhen fiercely, and He Zizhen retorting.
“Yes, I bought it. Grandma has been so good to me, taking care of me since I was little. What’s wrong with me buying her a ring?” He Zizhen said stubbornly, “I may not have money now, but won’t I earn it in the future?”
“I can spend my money on whomever I want in the future. I can buy Grandma a ring if I want, and I can buy Grandpa wine if I want. It’s my money, not yours!” He Zizhen was still angry when she said this: “You took all the money for my graduation banquet, did I say anything?”
“Can’t I spend my own money?” He Zizhen retorted.
Sister-in-law He was so angry that she wanted to hit someone with a feather duster.
Mother He immediately stopped her, saying, "Alright, alright, stop hitting her. The child is just being filial. I'll accept the ring; Zizhen doesn't need to pay for it."
That's exactly what Sister-in-law He wanted to hear.
He Zizhen disagreed: "No, I bought it for Grandma, so I should pay for it."
Sister-in-law He roared, "Do you have any money?"
He Zizhen said confidently, "I will make money in the future!"
Sister-in-law He said disdainfully, "You'll be lucky if you can support yourself in the future. You don't listen to your own mother, and you only listen to other people's encouragement. She's so rich, why doesn't she give her a gift? Why does she have to make you, a child, buy a ring to show your respect to your grandmother? Do they think you're stupid?"
Yun Jin, who was being criticized, laughed: "Sister-in-law, I don't think Zizhen is stupid. Zizhen is being filial and wants to buy a ring for her grandmother. I'm kind enough to lend her money, is that wrong? I'm going to get angry if you say that!"
Unexpectedly, the person in question was right here, and spoke up without any hesitation, leaving Sister-in-law He completely bewildered.
If it were her, she would definitely pretend to be dead.
He Zizhen nodded: "Yes, I wanted to buy it for Grandma myself. If it weren't for my aunt, I wouldn't have been able to buy it. My aunt meant well, Mom, please don't take it for granted."
Looking at her daughter who was siding with the outsider, Sister-in-law He was so angry that she didn't want to say anything.
Not wanting to cause any unpleasantness, Mrs. He took off the braided ring and said, "Forget it, I appreciate Zizhen's kindness, but I don't want this ring. You can return it!"
Sister-in-law He refused to return the money; she planned to keep it for herself, since the money didn't come from her own pocket anyway.
He Zizhen saw through her mother's thoughts, took it first, and stuffed it into her mother's hand: "Grandma, wear it. If you don't wear it, I won't call you Grandma anymore. I'm all grown up now, and I can make my own decisions."
Frustrated by her failed scheme, Sister-in-law He glared at her angrily: "You ungrateful wretch!"
He Zizhen didn't care.
Yun Jin gloated: "Yes, that's right! You're brave and responsible. Little Niangao should learn from your older sister!"
Little Rice Cake nodded crisply and said, "Yes, when I grow up, I'll buy Grandma a ring too!"
Mother He beamed with joy, not caring that her eldest daughter-in-law's expression was not pleasant. After all, it was her eldest granddaughter who was filial, and she was willing to give it to her and wear it herself.
Later, Mrs. He wore this twisted ring until a hundred years ago, when she took it off and gave it to He Zizhen. It was given to whoever bought it. If Yun Jin bought it, Mrs. He would give it to Yun Jin as well.
That's a story for another time.
Feng Qianqian thought a fight was going to break out, but to her surprise, only Sister-in-law He was injured. Anyone who didn't know better would have thought that He Zizhen was Yun Jin's biological daughter.
Seeing Feng Qianqian sneaking around eavesdropping, He Zizhen kicked the door open in anger and said to Feng Qianqian in an annoyed tone, "Now you're happy? You're not saying you didn't hear anything, you must have been the one who told on us. What good does it do you to see us, mother and daughter, at odds?"
Yun Jin Liangliang: "People just can't stand to see you and your daughter doing well."
Feng Qianqian knew she was in the wrong and didn't respond.
Little Rice Cake got angry: "You're a bad person!"
Feng Qianqian farted like a little rice cake.
The little dumpling angrily peed in front of her door and gave her a defiant look.
Enraged, Feng Qianqian yelled, "You damn dog! Grandma, look! It's peeing in the house!"
"Let him pee, just let it go. Da Bao and Xiao Bao have peed in the house a lot. What's the difference between a human and a dog?" Mom He said tolerantly to Doubao.
Feng Qianqian was so angry that her face turned green: "How can my son be compared to a dog?"
"Then why are you arguing with a dog?" Yun Jin could be infuriating.
In the end, Feng Qianqian was so angry that she almost lost her milk supply, but Yun Jin and the others were completely unaffected.
Sister-in-law He and Brother He complained that He Zizhen had been led astray, and so on and so forth.
When Brother He heard that it was about a ring, he said, "If you want one, I'll buy you one with my salary tomorrow. Don't worry about your daughter's money. Isn't her annual red envelope money with you?"
Sister-in-law He was not satisfied: "I'm afraid the children will be led astray by others."
Brother He thought she was exaggerating: "If she could learn even a little bit of her aunt's money-making skills, it wouldn't matter even if she led her astray. As long as she can make money, you don't know how much money those shopping malls, fried chicken shops, discos, and hotels are making now."
