He Tingchuan didn't return until after 10 p.m.
Yun Jin was coaxing Xiao Niangao to sleep when she heard a noise and asked, "Who's there?"
"Did I wake you up?" He Tingchuan whispered.
Yun Jin glanced at the sleeping Xiao Niangao, then got up to open the door for He Tingchuan: "Are you done with your work?"
"Okay." He Tingchuan met her concerned gaze and said, "I'll tell you about any progress later. You should go to sleep now."
Yun Jin smiled and said, "Okay, you can come right away after you wash up. Be sure to let me know if there's any progress."
Thinking of something, Yun Jin told He Tingchuan about how Wang's sister-in-law had inquired about his whereabouts that evening. He Tingchuan nodded and said, "I know. It's okay. Don't worry about it. You answered very well."
Yun Jin was relieved.
That night, He Tingchuan held her and quickly fell asleep.
They usually love to cuddle for a while, but they look tired.
The next day, Yun Jin woke up to use the toilet, and He Tingchuan washed her and Xiao Niangao's clothes and came back.
Yun Jin said, "Why did you wash it? I was planning to wash it this morning."
"I have a strong hand, so I can wash it in a few strokes." Basically, He Tingchuan washes all of their clothes.
He washes whenever he's home.
When I'm not home, I'll leave Yunjin to wash the next day.
Who knew this man was so diligent? He couldn't stand any work being done; he'd start doing it as soon as he saw it.
Hardworking men are the most attractive.
Many of the women in the compound envied Yun Jin for having such a hardworking husband who could do everything from laundry and cooking to taking care of the kids.
"I'm going to buy breakfast." He Tingchuan finished hanging up the clothes, collected the basin, and was about to leave.
"I'll go with you." Yun Jin was about to follow her out the door.
He Tingchuan shook his head: "I need to talk to Commander Wang for a few minutes. You wait for me at home."
Knowing he had important business to attend to, Yun Jin didn't join in the fun and nodded.
When He Tingchuan returned with breakfast, Xiao Niangao woke up and her eyes lit up when she saw her father: "Daddy, hug me!"
He Tingchuan immediately hugged the warm little rice cake: "Missed your dad?"
"Yes, Daddy. I missed you so much last night that I fell asleep." Little Rice Cake said pitifully.
He Tingchuan's heart almost melted, and he promised, "From now on, Dad promises to come home after dark and stay with Nian Gao."
Little Rice Cake was overjoyed: "I love Daddy the most!"
Yun Jin was used to the father and son being affectionate, so she took out the food He Tingchuan had prepared, which included tea eggs, soy milk, fried dough sticks, and steamed buns.
He Tingchuan peeled the eggs, one for his wife and one for his daughter.
Little Niangao can eat the egg by herself, but she doesn't like the yolk, so she gives the yolk to her father.
Yun Jin also gave the egg yolk to He Tingchuan.
Since having a wife and daughter, He Tingchuan has never eaten egg whites, but he can't refuse to eat egg yolks.
After breakfast, He Tingchuan went to training, while Yun Jin and Sister-in-law Gao made zongzi (sticky rice dumplings). Yun Jin and Xiao Niangao both tried to make zongzi, but the two of them were just causing trouble. They didn't make many zongzi and ended up scattering a lot of rice on the ground.
In the end, it was all Sister-in-law Gao who helped wrap the zongzi for Yun Jin's family.
Yun Jin and Xiao Niangao's crookedly wrapped rice dumplings looked like they would fall apart and leak rice, but surprisingly, they held up well despite being tied up so tightly.
According to Wang's wife, her husband said he has an urgent mission tonight and will be away for a while, possibly a month. He said he needs to pack up and leave.
As soon as Commander Wang left, Sister-in-law Wang quickly settled the children, said she was going to the city, and boarded a bus to leave.
As soon as the bus started moving, a car immediately followed. It looked old and didn't seem like a jeep. It drove slowly behind the bus, and you wouldn't notice it unless you looked closely.
Wang's wife didn't realize she was being followed.
She got off at a station and strode towards a familiar direction, a calculating glint in her eyes.
If we succeed this time, we'll get everything we need, not just a big gold bracelet.
Sister-in-law Wang knocked on the door, and someone quickly opened it. Seeing that it was her, she invited her in: "What brings you here?"
"My husband went out on a mission today and won't be back for several days. I just wanted to chat with you and also ask for some pickled cabbage to take home. Your pickled cabbage is delicious."
Her cousin asked, "Where do we go to do the mission?"
Sister-in-law Wang showed her hand.
Her cousin saw through her greed and nodded, "Okay."
Under Sister Wang's gaze, he took out five hundred yuan and gave it to her: "This is a deposit. If the information is reliable, you can come back for the other half of the reward."
Sister-in-law Wang happily took the money, counted it, confirmed it was five hundred yuan, and immediately stuffed it into her pocket: "Don't worry, the news is definitely true, my husband would never lie to me."
"As long as it's genuine." Her cousin was anxious to pass on the message, so she gave a big bowl of pickled cabbage to Sister Wang and sent her back, telling her not to come looking for her unless it was something important, so as not to arouse suspicion.
Sister-in-law Wang nodded: "Don't worry, everyone knows you're my cousin and that your sauerkraut is delicious, so they won't think anything of it."
Her cousin was still worried. She glanced around to make sure there was no one suspicious, and after watching Wang's wife leave, she immediately closed the door, lifted the lid of the water vat in the yard, and found an entrance inside.
Her cousin went down into the water tank and into the underground secret room, where there were communication devices. She put on headphones and started sending messages.
He Tingchuan, along with Li Aiguo and a few others, quietly appeared to make sure they hadn't come to the wrong place. They glanced at the ordinary little courtyard; if it weren't for Sister Wang leading the way, they would have had no idea that spies were hiding there.
"Block all the intersections and don't let any suspicious person slip by. Li Aiguo and I will go in. Be careful." After He Tingchuan finished speaking, he climbed over the wall and went inside to avoid alerting the people inside.
To everyone's surprise, the courtyard was empty. It was clearly an ordinary family home, with the furnishings as ordinary as could be, and there was no other clue whatsoever.
