The rain continued, accompanied by a cold wind that brought a chill to the air.
Two pretty girls, wearing coats, were huddled together at the dormitory entrance.
The girl with the ponytail, in particular, was extremely endearing.
For some reason, she looked somewhat haggard.
Mo Yuqing had cried all her tears and had entered a calmer phase.
Liu Yan looked at her best friend beside her, whose eyes were already red from crying, her eyes filled with helplessness.
I pity their misfortune and hate their lack of resistance.
Because... I really did try to persuade them a lot.
Mo Yuqing had so many opportunities, but she let them slip through her fingers.
"I really had forgotten everything before," Mo Yuqing said softly, gazing at the rain curtain under the distant streetlights.
She slowly stretched out her hand in the night, hovering it in mid-air, as if trying to catch the falling cold raindrops, or as if hoping that the familiar boy would pull her up as always.
But there was nothing there.
Neither the rain nor that boy were too far away from her.
"What did you forget?" Liu Yan asked, somewhat puzzled.
"I've forgotten how good Chen Lu was to me." Mo Yuqing pursed her lips, her expression wistful. "Those things had become a part of my life, and I've completely ignored them..."
Only now, after he's left me, have I belatedly realized it.
Liu Yan listened silently without arguing.
Many people are like this, inexplicably taking the kindness of their closest relatives for granted, while being extremely grateful and remembering even the smallest favors from strangers.
The most striking example is the many rebellious people and their own parents.
No matter how much you argue with your family, you'll eventually realize that the only people in this world who truly care for you without expecting anything in return are your parents.
Only after entering society and experiencing its harsh realities will one realize that, apart from one's parents, no one will always indulge them.
Mo Yuqing suddenly curled the corners of her lips slightly, as if she remembered something and smiled softly. But then tears suddenly slid down her cheeks again. "If only he were a bad person. If he threw more tantrums at me, maybe I would have realized sooner how awful I've been all along."
Liu Yan was speechless and frowned, saying, "You mean if Chen Lu weren't an honest man, he would have won you over?"
Mo Yuqing shook her head, her long ponytail swaying twice.
"You and Jiang Chao know him too."
Chen Lu is so smart, he actually knows everything... He just likes me too much. He likes me so much that he only wants to be good to me and wouldn't stoop to doing something like slapping me twice and then giving me a treat.
He wouldn't let me suffer at all, from beginning to end.
As she spoke, her smile deepened, but when she suddenly realized that these beautiful moments no longer belonged to her, her smile froze.
Her tears had completely dried up, and she could only stare blankly into the distance.
"Go back to sleep."
After a long while, Mo Yuqing slowly got up, reached out her hand to Liu Yan, and pulled her up.
That night, Mo Yuqing listened quietly to the sound of rain outside the window, and did not sleep a wink.
Nobody knows what she's thinking.
......
The following day at noon.
Chen Lu was woken up by his cell phone ringing.
"Miaomiao asked us if we were going out for dinner tonight, saying it was a celebration party for the drama club..."
Although Liang Zhirou was pouting angrily because Chen Lu hadn't eaten breakfast that morning, her tone was still incredibly gentle.
However, there seemed to be a hint of awkwardness hidden beneath his words.
Chen Lu thought for a moment, then yawned and asked, "Do you want to go?"
He knew that this simpleton was extremely shy and didn't know how to refuse.
If Liang Zhirou didn't want to, he planned to cancel the meal and have the three of them have a meal together in a couple of days.
With no strangers around, Liang Zhirou wouldn't be so nervous.
Some things can't be rushed.
The girl on the other end of the phone clearly hadn't expected to be asked that question and didn't know how to answer for a moment.
Seeing that Liang Zhirou hadn't spoken, he patiently explained, "Don't be shy about refusing. This meal is different from what you think. We're not the main characters here, so it's fine whether you go or not."
"If you feel uncomfortable with too many people, just say you're not going. Then tell Lin Miaomiao that you'll invite her to dinner in a couple of days."
Don't worry, not going won't hurt feelings, and we're not in the wrong doing this.
Liang Zhirou wasn't sure if she understood or not; she kept pondering the meaning of "we."
"Do you want to go?" Chen Lu asked again softly.
The girl paused for a moment, then slowly said, "I don't want to..."
The environment filled with strangers made her feel suffocated.
"That's right. From now on, just say what you don't want to do." Chen Lu was very satisfied. He then lay back down on the bed. "I'll hang up now if there's nothing else. I'm going to sleep a little longer. I'm so sleepy."
The girl's tone suddenly became urgent on the other end of the phone, "There's one more thing..."
"What?"
Liang Zhirou took a few deep breaths, and finally mustered up her courage to say, "I'll treat you to dinner."
Her voice was soft and even trembled slightly, but her tone was very firm.
She used all her strength to say those words.
"Hello? Are you listening... After all, I haven't thanked you for helping me find a job yet..." She cautiously probed again after a few seconds.
Chen Lu finally snapped out of his daze, completely unaware of the smile on his face, and said, "I'm listening."
