Chapter 466 Best Friend Medal

Hearing Liang Zhirou snickering, Chen Lu glanced at her expressionlessly.

Liang Zhirou noticed his gaze and quickly covered her mouth, trying to stop laughing.

Two seconds later, she gave up, snuggling into Chen Lu's arms and continuing to laugh, not even bothering to put on an act. Chen Lu's feigned fierceness might have worked ten years ago, but it's completely ineffective now.

Now she was absolutely certain that this man would never be able to bring himself to be harsh with her.

Chen Lu pinched Liang Zhirou's still soft and tender face and couldn't help but sigh softly.

Pure and innocent.

He knew that phrase too well; he had no idea how much he had taken advantage of Liang Zhirou back then by using the phrase "pure and innocent."

Although Liang Zhirou occasionally feigned ignorance and gave things away, she truly fooled this simpleton, and she also fooled herself.

"Mom, what are you laughing at..." Chen Yunqi's gaze became increasingly dazed. Was there something funny about what he had just said?

Liang Zhirou bit Chen Lu's collar with her lips and waved her hand at him: "N-nothing, I just thought of some happy things."

Ignoring the woman nestled in his arms, grinning foolishly, Chen Lu tugged at the corners of his mouth and turned his gaze to Chen Yunqi's face, quietly observing the boy's handsome yet increasingly mature features.

Who would have thought that the bullet he casually fired back then would, twenty years later, hit him right between the eyebrows in this way.

Chen Yunqi couldn't help but look away from his gaze, and after a moment he slowly looked back and said softly, "Dad, I'm serious."

I don't believe it.

"Why?" Chen Yunqi asked, puzzled.

Seeing Liang Zhirou casting an ambiguous glance at him, Chen Lu suddenly choked. He couldn't very well tell this kid that his father had used the same excuse to fool everyone around him back then, could he?

After a moment's hesitation, he cleared his throat and said seriously, "None of these things matter."

"For you right now, everything is meaningless except for grades, you know?"

"Whether you are truly innocent or not, if you are not in the same school or city, even if you have a lot of living expenses, can you afford to take the high-speed train or fly there every weekend?"

"We might only see each other once every ten days or two weeks. Even blood relatives would become estranged in this situation, let alone others."

"We're both adults, and you understand many things even if I don't tell you."

Chen Lu's words came to an abrupt end; he never engaged in lengthy, didactic lectures.

Chen Yunqi remained silent for a long time, finally nodding slightly before turning and returning to his room.

"Did you say it was too heavy? Yunqi doesn't seem very happy," Liang Zhirou asked softly.

“This is nothing. He has always known in his heart that I am just putting the problems he doesn’t want to face in front of him.”

Chen Lu closed his eyes and let out a long breath. Suddenly, he felt a warm, slippery sensation on his neck, which was a little painful and a little itchy.

He opened his eyes and saw Liang Zhirou biting his neck.

A moment later, a small red mark appeared on his neck. Liang Zhirou looked at her masterpiece and smiled smugly.

"How old are you and still so childish?" Chen Lu smiled and tidied the stray hairs by Liang Zhirou's ear. "You little hooligan."

Looking at Liang Zhirou's face, he was momentarily dazed. Perhaps because this simple-minded girl truly treated the world with gentleness, time had been incredibly kind to her as well. Even now, her pretty face remained cool and refined, only a little more mature than before.

"We're just good friends, what's wrong with growing strawberries?"

Liang Zhirou smiled and retorted, lightly poking his cheek with her index finger, "This is called the Good Friend Medal, a reward for being my clean and innocent good friend for twenty years."

"You can't get over this, can you?" Chen Lu glanced at her. The child is almost old enough to bring cabbages home, and she's still bringing this up.

Fortunately, he won the Friends Medal... How come he never thought of that ridiculous excuse back then?

"Who told you to lie to me with this back then, you big liar."

Ignoring Liang Zhirou's condemnation, Chen Lu reached out and pulled her back into his arms, whispering in her ear, "Since we're just good friends, why don't you have another child for me?"

Liang Zhirou shivered at the sudden warmth of his breath on her ear, her body going limp in his arms. But she still raised her chin and muttered, "I don't care. If you dare, I'll give birth. You, if you're so capable, don't pretend to be asleep like that time."

“I already said that was a special case…” Seeing the smile in the girl’s eyes, he snorted coldly, “Just keep showing off, I’ll deal with you tonight.”

Chen Lu's tone was disdainful. Even if he was getting a little older, had he been running every morning for almost twenty years in vain?

Just as her unlucky son interrupted her and he was about to get handsy again, Chen Muxue yawned and crawled out of the bedroom.

"..."

Those two unlucky kids, can't they just go to college already?

Liang Zhirou quickly sat down next to Chen Lu and asked softly, "Weren't you doing your homework with your sister? Why did you come out by yourself?"

"She hasn't finished writing yet. I finished early and came out to rest for a bit."

Chen Muxue lay lazily on the sofa, as if she had no bones in her body, just like Chen Lu usually did.

In addition, this girl always had an expression of disinterest in everything... Chen Lu turned his head and looked at her. Goodness, at first glance, she looked even more useless than her father.

While the father and daughter chatted, Liang Zhirou went to the kitchen to wash some fruit and put it on the coffee table for her to take in later. She had already delivered Chen Yunqi's portion before returning to the sofa.

As soon as she sat back down next to Chen Lu, she saw Chen Muxue fiddling with her bangs, muttering, "I want to grow these out a bit longer, like my mom did back then."
