Chapter 62 Too Late

Mo Yuqing finally stood up when she saw Chen Lu.

I don't know how long she had been squatting there. When she stood up, her legs were sore and she swayed for a moment. She had to hold onto the door to keep her balance.

It's hard to reconcile the image of her now with that of the girl who never bowed her head.

All three of them were stunned for a moment.

Just as Chen Lu was about to pretend he hadn't seen anything and helped Jiang Chao into the room...

Mo Yuqing took three steps at a time and walked up to him, her dark black skirt swaying gently like a flower.

She had already made up her mind, even if Chen Lu had stopped moving or even started walking back.

As long as you run after it, even if it kills you half your life, that's fine.

After all, these are nothing compared to Chen Lu's many years of dedication.

She held up what she was carrying and said softly, "I bought you peach shortbread from your favorite shop."

That shop is far from the school; it takes at least forty minutes by taxi, and more than an hour round trip.

Chen Lu had no idea how long it took her to get there and back, or how long she had been squatting there like an unwanted child, feeding on mosquitoes, or attracting curious glances.

However, he didn't really want to know anymore...

Boiling water at 100 degrees Celsius can freeze, let alone a heart at only 37 degrees Celsius?

The more devoted a person is, the more completely they will be when they give up.

His last hope was to part ways amicably.

Jiang Chao tactfully strolled into the dormitory, leaving the two of them there. Even so, he still stood at a distance, lit a cigarette, and quietly ate some melon seeds.

Seeing Chen Lu sigh softly, it seemed he still had no intention of getting involved.

Mo Yuqing's expression became even more distressed. She held the bag of peach shortbread in both hands and handed it to Chen Lu again.

"Just... a couple of bites, just two bites."

She almost pleaded.

"Okay?"

She held back her tears. She had actually anticipated this situation, but when it actually happened, her heart still ached as if it were being stabbed with needles, and felt ice-cold.

The boy who was kind to her, smiled at her, and whose eyes were always on her, seems to be gone forever...

She was overwhelmed by immense sorrow, and regret surged through her heart like a tide, wave after wave.

At the same time, she also realized that regret was useless.

Chen Lu looked at the girl in front of him with a somewhat indifferent expression and said helplessly, "Forget it, I just finished eating."

Besides, I don't like eating this.

Mo Yuqing paused for a moment, hid her trembling hands behind her back, and pursed her lips.

"But you've liked it since you were little..."

"I remember all the things you like to eat."

Chen Luming often asked for food since he was a child, even when he was in elementary school. Because of this, his mother would often prepare food for him when he came to play.

She was trembling slightly, perhaps more afraid that Chen Lu would stop liking her than that he would stop liking the peach shortbread.

Upon hearing this, Chen Lu's lips curled into a complicated smile. He said with a wry smile, "Think about it more. When my parents or your parents bought this for me when I was a child, who ate the most?"

Mo Yuqing lowered her eyes and whispered, "I..."

Back then, Chen Lu would only eat a few bites and then stop, and he was often scolded for it. Even though he was always scolded for not liking it but still kept asking for more, he would always say that he liked it.

I'm just like a child who never grows up, unable to feel anything.

She has been recklessly trampling on his tenderness.

Seeing Mo Yuqing standing there in a daze, Chen Lu's face was full of helplessness and exhaustion. He asked, "Have you figured it out?"

Mo Yuqing nodded gently.

She bit her lower lip hard, and as she bit, she inexplicably tasted a salty, pungent liquid.

She suddenly became very angry with herself.

How can you still be so slow to realize things at this point...?

Chen Lu didn't say anything more, and walked towards the dormitory door, leaving only one sentence behind—

"Let's stop bothering each other, for your own good and for the best."

He had only taken two steps when he found his arm suddenly being grabbed.

"I don't want to..." Mo Yuqing gently tugged at him with one hand, while wiping away the tears that she finally couldn't hold back from flowing down her cheeks with the other.

"Please don't send me away...please."

“We grew up together, I really never imagined life without you.”

I will repay you, and I will treat you as well as you treated me.

At this moment, she had completely lost all her pride.

It's just bowing your head, nothing serious.

She was willing to do anything as long as Chen Lu could change his mind.

Just as she still held onto a sliver of hope, she saw Chen Lu sigh softly...

"Let go, at least be dignified," he said in a deep voice.

Chen Lu has made his meaning very clear.

If I want to leave, you can't stop me.

Letting go now won't be too bad.

Under Chen Lu's watchful gaze, Mo Yuqing finally slowly let go of his hand.

It seemed that loosening each finger took a tremendous amount of her strength.

It turns out that she also had moments when she longed for intimate contact with Chen Lu.

Chen Lu wasn't buying it; trying to reason with him would only backfire and make him dislike him even more.

Mo Yuqing didn't want that.

She could only look at the boy in front of her with blurry vision, wanting to see him one more time.

"Let's go back."

After Chen Lu finished speaking, he didn't linger, but every step he took was heavy.
