Time always slips away when you're not paying attention, and then it always comes back when you're not paying attention, reminding you that it has already gone far away.
After a heavy rain, Hangzhou seemed to turn into a giant furnace, and the weather became increasingly hot and humid.
It's early summer again.
Jiang Chao and Peng Leyun worked on a nominated AAA game and then stepped back from the spotlight, leaving the entire burden of Polaris on Chen Muxue's shoulders.
Since returning to China, Chen Muxue has been adapting to the market and transforming her business, and she has been quite successful at it.
Chen Lu thought it was fine. They were all in their forties now, and to be honest, they weren't really keeping up with the times and didn't quite understand what young people liked these days.
Conquering a country is difficult, but maintaining it is equally difficult. He started from scratch and didn't need to consider whether he could win over the people, but Chen Muxue did.
This girl is really better than him.
Thinking this, he glanced at his daughter again.
Several years abroad hadn't brought her much change. The girl was sprawled on the sofa, lazily looking at her phone, her hair unwashed, yawning every now and then.
Those employees probably never imagined that their boss, who is so decisive and efficient at work, would be such a freak at home.
His secretary just called him, saying she couldn't find him because of a meeting. The girl was young and was crying in a panic.
"You're a company boss, how can you keep your subordinates from finding you every day? What kind of behavior is that?"
Chen Lu couldn't help but ramble on, completely forgetting that he was the same kind of person back then.
"Oh dear, a company is like code; if it can run, don't mess with it."
Chen Muxue rubbed her eyes and continued in a muffled voice, "I just need to keep an eye on the general direction."
Chen Lu chuckled softly, feeling as if he were seeing a reflection of himself from back then.
This girl seems to know she can't be a third wheel, so she lives nearby and comes over to beg for food every day at the same time. After eating, she helps wash the dishes. Sometimes she just leaves and then stays a little longer.
This made Chen Lu very happy; without the little light bulb, the house didn't feel too lonely.
Chen Yunqi, that little rascal, is so insensible. If he didn't come back, he would miss him quite a bit, but once he came back, he would stay for several days, and Liang Zhirou wouldn't have a chance to wear many of the clothes she bought.
After a long while, Chen Lu was looking down at his phone when he suddenly noticed a figure standing in front of him.
Looking up, he saw Liang Zhirou with her hands behind her back, smiling gently at him.
"What's wrong?" he asked curiously.
"Shall we go climb Mount Tai?"
"Go if you want to." Chen Lu stood up without thinking. "I'll ask a few old people if they want to go."
It's been a few days since I last went over to check it out.
...
"Dad, why don't you come too? You're taking the cable car anyway, so it's like going to see the place." When he left, only Chen Guanglin was home; Wang Xiaoxia was nowhere to be seen.
"I'm too old to bother with all that," Chen Guanglin waved his hand, put his reading glasses back on, and squinted as he read.
Chen Lu, still looking around like a silly deer, asked, "Where's my mom?"
Wang Xiaoxia is ridiculous; she's busier now that she's retired than before. You have to call ahead if you want to visit her, otherwise you might not be able to see her.
“She took Zhirou’s mother and your sister to play mahjong. That old lady never does anything productive all day, she just plays around.”
"Aren't you afraid my mom will beat you for saying that?" Chen Lu regretted not recording his father's words.
"Haha, all she does now is play mahjong all day long. She can't catch your dad when he runs."
Chen Guanglin gave him a thumbs up, a smug smile spreading across his face, the wrinkles at the corners of his eyes crinkling with delight.
"Yunqi hasn't returned yet?" the old man asked again.
Chen Lu shook his head. "No, his wife went to Vienna for some kind of piano performance, and he went with her. He said he'd also hold an art exhibition on the side... I don't understand the stuff young people do."
The young couple, one a musician and the other an artist, are surprisingly well-matched.
"Muxue Company is doing quite well... These kids are really promising." Chen Guanglin closed his book and couldn't help but sigh.
It would be even better if Yunqi could have a child sooner.
When you have time, you should ask Xiaoxia to urge them on; she's good at this kind of work.
"Your son is useless?" Chen Lu retorted. "Even if these two kids are successful, they're still my children!"
Putting aside the facts, don't I deserve any credit?
Chen Guanglin chuckled and patted his head, "My son is the best!"
Chen Lu was satisfied now, and said goodbye with a sly smile.
This guy not only didn't bring anything home, but he also swiped two bottles of liquor from Chen Guanglin before leaving.
...
When Chen Yunqi and Jiang Nan returned, travel-worn, the group set off to climb Mount Tai.
Chen Lu didn't climb up back then because he was too lazy, and now he's even lazier. The young people slowly climbed up from the foot of the mountain. Liang Zhirou took the initiative to say she was tired and then pulled him to take the cable car up.
The mountaintop was shrouded in mist, and the two strolled around hand in hand.
Along the way, Chen Lu kept looking around, trying to find traces of things that had not been changed by time in the wisps of mist.
More than twenty years have passed, allowing him to transform from a timid and simple-minded boy into a lively and adorable one.
It could also transform the mountain into something completely unfamiliar to him.
"Hey, honey, what exactly did you wish for back then?"
Once they reached a relatively flat path, Chen Lu tightened his grip on Liang Zhirou's hand and asked curiously, "It's been so many years, you should tell me by now, right?"
He finally asked the question that had troubled him for years.
