Chapter 32 A Belated Goodnight

A moment of silence followed.

"If you want to cry, then cry." She gripped the steering wheel with both hands, watching Jiang Chao being helped away by his friends in the distance, and said.

"Cry later," Mo Yuqing whispered.

"What do you mean?" Liu Yan asked, turning to look at her, puzzled.

Mo Yuqing didn't answer. She took out her phone and opened her chat with Chen Lu.

The two haven't messaged each other for over ten days.

She took a deep breath and tapped the screen incessantly.

Finally, I took the initiative to send one.

"A few days ago, my mom told me she was coming back from abroad, but when I got home, I found out she was lying to me..."

I was really sad at the time.

She adopted the same tone she used when complaining to Chen Lu.

For both of them, the meaning of Mo Yuqing's words was already quite clear: she was saying, "I was so sad back then, but you weren't there for me..."

After all, from childhood to adulthood, she had often cried and complained to Chen Lu about her parents' problems, and Chen Lu had always been there for her whenever she needed him.

As expected, Chen Lu did not reply immediately this time.

It's time to wake up from your dream.

The girl waited for more than ten minutes but did not receive a reply.

For the first time, she felt that ten minutes or so was an incredibly long time.

This anxious waiting was truly agonizing, making her restless and uneasy.

She was somewhat dazed, and dared not think about how Chen Lu felt when he was waiting for her news.

Another half hour passed, and Chen Lu still ignored her.

Two clear tears finally streamed down Mo Yuqing's cheeks. She sniffed and continued sending messages to Chen Lu.

"If you ignore me again, I'll tell your mom!"

"I'm going to tell her you bullied me, and that you're the one who actually lost her platinum necklace!"

She still used the same tone she used to use when chatting, and even brought up their past memories.

This was the first time she had spoken to Chen Lu so carefully and with such ulterior motives.

This time, Mo Yuqing finally received a reply, but no matter how she tried to recreate the old way of chatting, Chen Lu was no longer the same as before.

These characters were incredibly cold, piercing straight into her heart.

"Let's just live our own lives as we have these days, and let each other go."

He then sent another message: "I'm really tired, I want to forget you."

Mo Yuqing stared blankly at her phone, almost forgetting to breathe for a moment.

Not only was Mo Yuqing stunned, but even Liu Yan was somewhat taken aback when she saw it.

The contrast between Chen Lu and his previous infatuated self is too great; it's hard to guess how deeply he's been hurt.

Still unwilling to give up, she continued typing: "Why? We used to be so close..."

Ten minutes later.

The phone screen lit up again. Mo Yuqing wiped away her tears, her slender hands trembling uncontrollably, seemingly even more nervous than when checking her grades.

"You yourself said it was in the past."

An extremely long silence fell over the car until the sound of the engine starting could be heard, and the sobbing still hadn't stopped.

Mo Yuqing recalled many things along the way.

Memories she had forgotten at some point were now relentlessly surfacing in her mind.

Her eyes were filled with tears, like a child who had made a mistake, feeling both regretful and afraid.

I really regret it.

I was genuinely afraid.

......

An hour later.

Chen Lu was still staring blankly at the chat interface, quietly looking at the last message Mo Yuqing sent, "Goodnight."

After a long period of contemplation, he could only manage a helpless, bitter smile.

How interesting, I've given up on you and you're starting to take the initiative.

I used to love you so much...

But now,

Please let me go.

His phone vibrated again, and he rubbed his blurry eyes.

Liang Zhirou: I'm sorry, I forgot to tell you earlier... I felt you were getting tired of drinking porridge, so I made you some steamed buns. Tell me if you get tired of them in the future, and I'll change it for you... but you can't skip breakfast.

Chen Lu smiled with relief and tapped the screen lightly.

"good."

......

The next morning.

After sobering up, Jiang Chao returned to his dormitory, supporting his back, only to find that the half-case of beer he had left had all turned into empty bottles.

"Damn it! I have so much liquor!"

"Chen Lu drank it all..."
