"Hmph, that's right." The girl gripped his hand tighter. "It's because I've done so many good deeds all this time that God let me meet you."
Chen Lu snorted and was about to retort, but he was stunned when he saw the girl's incredibly determined gaze.
This idiot actually thought that meeting him was the luckiest thing ever.
"This silly girl is quite superstitious." He reached out and poked Liang Zhirou's forehead.
Liang Zhirou puffed out her cheeks at him, walked ahead with her hands behind her back, hopped a few times on a hopscotch wall that someone had drawn, and then turned around to look at him.
Are you envious?
"What's there to envy?" Chen Lu asked, puzzled.
"Your friend already has a child, and we're still..."
Liang Zhirou's voice grew softer and softer until she couldn't continue speaking, at which point she simply turned her face away.
Chen Lu looked at her with amusement, always feeling that the silly girl's ears, which had slipped out from her sideburns, were redder than the sunset.
"It's okay, I'm not in a hurry."
As he spoke, he stepped forward and took the girl's hand again, saying, "Others should be envying me."
This silly girl's thought process is sometimes quite peculiar. When we first got together, she felt guilty because she was afraid to kiss me, and she felt that she was not a good girlfriend.
I never expected it to still be like this.
"I feel like you guys are always nice to me for no reason," the girl muttered.
Needless to say, Chen Lu was someone she often felt she treated far less well than he treated her.
Then Miaomiao, Chen Mo, Uncle and Aunt...
And then there's Liu Yan today.
Besides being moved, she also felt another emotion: bewilderment.
Because, just a year ago, she had never experienced any of these things.
Liu Yan's words, "Zhirou, no one can bully you," still echoed in her mind.
"Liang Zhirou, do you seem to have some misunderstanding about the phrase 'for no reason'? Everyone, without exception, is willingly kind to you because they are moved by your gentleness."
Chen Lu cupped the girl's icy cheeks in his hands. "Do you remember this playground?"
The girl nodded her chin. "You played guitar for me here."
How could she possibly forget something she was destined to remember for a lifetime?
She worked hard for a whole year, relying on the promise she made to Chen Lu back then.
Chen Lu seemed to suddenly recall something, smiled faintly, and then spoke again:
“If you hadn’t waited for me for two hours in the rain, I might not have played the guitar for you. If you hadn’t been so patient in comforting Liu Yan, she certainly wouldn’t have helped you like this.”
"So, no matter how the people you've met before have treated you..."
"This is the happiness you deserve."
