Chapter 15 Effort and Reward

"Liang Zhirou," Chen Lu called out.

The girl looked up slightly after hearing this, somewhat puzzled.

"Thank you."

Chen Lu thought for a long time but couldn't come up with a better excuse.

But it doesn't matter anyway. No matter how eloquently you speak, a clueless person who can't even understand the joke about having a bad stomach might not get it anyway.

Speaking of which, there's one thing I was right about yesterday—living off a woman is really delicious.

"Mmm!" Liang Zhirou's voice was soft and sweet, unusually cheerful.

All the drowsiness and fatigue vanished without a trace with that thank you.

On the way here, Liang Zhirou kept thinking about giving up, having considered backing out countless times.

She imagined countless possibilities: Chen Lu might politely refuse, or say it didn't taste good, or even think he might find her strange.

She had many wild guesses, but she always felt that Chen Lu was a gentle person, and it was more likely that he forced himself to finish the drink.

Although she wouldn't be embarrassed if she did that, she didn't want Chen Lu to force her.

Fortunately, Chen Lu seems to really like it...

Chen Lu gulped down several mouthfuls of water, finally getting rid of the taste of preserved egg in his mouth. He stretched contentedly and stared at the girl in front of him.

He was expressionless, but his gaze was gentle.

Liang Zhirou also mustered up her courage to look at him, and their eyes met for a moment.

The girl then quickly looked away as if trying to escape.

They all tacitly avoided mentioning "you wanted to see me so much" again.

Why are you staring at me like that...?

After a short while, the girl finally couldn't stand being stared at anymore, so she quickly turned her face away, lowered her head, and asked shyly.

"Don't move." Chen Lu rubbed his forehead, seemingly deep in thought.

"ah?"

"I said don't move."

"oh..."

Liang Zhirou was confused, but she still stood obediently in front of Chen Lu, her left arm hanging down and her right hand holding her left arm.

The girl turned her slightly flushed cheeks away, her white T-shirt pressed tightly against her arms, making the curves of her body incredibly eye-catching.

Anyone who didn't know better would think Chen Lu was abusing an innocent young girl.

Liang Zhirou blushed deeply under his gaze, her earlobes burned, and her clear, bright eyes welled up with tears, as if she were about to burst into tears at any moment.

What are you doing...?

She felt uneasy, like a wronged person, and her voice trembled with tears.

Chen Lu was both amused and exasperated by her reaction. He once again suppressed his urge to tease her and half-jokingly said:

"I'm thinking about how to repay you."

He felt that Liang Zhirou was very different from other girls; she had almost no life of her own and no hobbies.

Although they hadn't known each other for long, he had never seen Liang Zhirou smile.

This simpleton instinctively suppressed his emotions, his inferiority complex running deep in his bones.

What should I do...?

Chen Lu felt that as this silly good friend, he should do something, even if it was just for that piece of candy and this breakfast.

However, he had no clue what to do at the moment.

"Huh? Why do you want to repay me?" Liang Zhirou wondered if she was still half asleep, as she hadn't been on the same wavelength as him all day.

"Why are you just making 'uh-huh' sounds..." Chen Lu chuckled. "Because I want to be very, very good friends with you, so it's best if our efforts and returns are equal."

Finally, gazing into the distance thoughtfully, he added, "That's how it lasts."

Liang Zhirou pursed her lips shyly, looked at the rising sun, and took out her phone to check the time.

She stole another glance at the handsome and gentle boy in front of her, then picked up her lunchbox with satisfaction, waved gently at him, and said, "I'm leaving."

"Where are you going?" Chen Lu asked curiously, his tone full of doubt.

So you just came here to deliver breakfast?

“Go hand out flyers.” Liang Zhirou stretched out her slender, fair index finger, seemingly quite proud. “No classes today, I can earn over a hundred more.”

After get off work, I can cook some pork ribs for my mom.

Chen Lu's first instinct was to help, but he quickly dismissed the idea.

Liang Zhirou needs help, but not this kind of forced kindness.

She doesn't need "charity".

This will only make the insecure girl feel more embarrassed.

"You have something to do today? You said last night that you were coming over, I thought you were coming to help."

Chen Lu said helplessly, feeling somewhat disappointed.

He felt like he had been tricked by Lin Miaomiao.

I've been completely fooled.

Did Lin Miaomiao really not use Liang Zhirou as bait?

Chen Lu never expected that he would actually take the bait.

Liang Zhirou was leaving because of her part-time job, and she felt embarrassed to leave since she had promised to help.

It seems that Chen Lu's plan to learn more about Liang Zhirou has fallen through, but he's not in a hurry.

"Will you come back after this is all over?"

Chen Lu asked a question as if possessed.

"return."

Liang Zhirou answered immediately, seemingly confused. After speaking, she quickly considered whether she had time to come over. Once she confirmed that there was no problem, she nodded vigorously again.

"Okay, I'll wait for you," Chen Lu said with a light laugh.

Seeing the girl disappear, Chen Lu walked irritably into the drama club crowd. Just as Lin Miaomiao, who had finished reading the script, was about to sit down, he quietly pulled the chair away.

"Ouch! That hurts!!"

...

Liang Zhirou walked towards the bus stop, feeling the gentle breeze blowing against her cheeks.
