Chapter 37 Promise

After hearing Chen Lu's words, Liang Zhirou picked up her bag, slowly stood up, and quietly stood next to Chen Lu.

Jiang Chao and Chen Lu looked at each other, unsure of what to say.

Originally, as Chen Lu's best friend, he really disliked Mo Yuqing.

I never expected Mo Yuqing to pull this stunt.

Only then did he have a chance to take a closer look at Liang Zhirou, and only when he got closer did he realize...

This girl's looks seem to be just as good as Mo Yuqing's.

For a moment, he didn't know whether to say Chen Lu was lucky or unlucky.

Chen Lu was lucky, though; he pursued Mo Yuqing for seven years but still couldn't win her over.

But if Chen Lu is unlucky, the girl next to him named Liang Zhirou is definitely a good match, and she's also beautiful.

Before Chen Lu could react, Chen Mo grabbed Liang Zhirou and tried to run away.

The girl stared blankly at Chen Lu, her expression somewhat anxious.

Chen Lu smiled and waved for the two of them to go first.

"Lend me your car, I'll take her home," Chen Lu said softly. Judging from Chen Mo's grinning face, he guessed that Liang Zhirou probably wouldn't have to teach Chen Mo today.

Jiang Chao didn't hesitate at all, took out the key and handed it to him, jokingly saying, "If other guys knew this, they'd be so envious of you, with both girls you're involved with being so beautiful."

"Envy them my ass! They don't know anything!"

"What are you thinking?" Jiang Chao asked curiously. "I thought you'd be moved to tears."

"If you were in my position, you would know that after so much damage, a few apologies are completely useless..."

Chen Lu said coldly, leaving Jiang Chao with only an indifferent back view.

......

When Chen Lu arrived at the school gate, he saw Chen Mo pulling Liang Zhirou to eat. His adopted younger sister seemed to really like the junk food from these street stalls.

The two stood under the bright streetlights, eating oden in small bites while feeding mosquitoes.

"If you like it, why don't you just come to this school? Every night, the whole street is packed with food stalls," Chen Lu complained, adding that he was tired of eating there after all these years.

He then gently poked Liang Zhirou's forehead with his index finger, "I'll take you home."

"I have to pass the exam too." Chen Mo spat at him, watching Liang Zhirou being run off with her brother with reluctance.

Just as the two were about to leave, Chen Lu's phone rang.

He was startled when he saw the caller ID.

Liang Zhirou blinked as she looked at him. She rarely saw Chen Lu, who was usually so capable, show such an awkward expression.

"Who is it?" Chen Mo asked, also finding it strange.

"Uncle Mo..."

Chen Lu pointed to his sister, signaling her to keep her voice down, and then answered the phone.

"Hey, Uncle Mo," Chen Lu chuckled. "It's been a while since I've seen you. My dad was talking about you with me the other day."

A capable-looking middle-aged male voice came from the other end of the phone, "Xiao Lu, how have you been lately? Have you encountered any difficulties?"

Mo Wenbin always spoke in a formal, official style.

"It's great. What difficulties could a college student like me possibly have?"

Chen Lu exchanged a few polite words, knowing that they were about to get down to business.

"Have you and Yuqing been having a fight lately?"

"We had a minor disagreement."

He thought about it and decided to tell the truth. Since the other party asked about this, they must have come to see his precious daughter's performance.

'Let's not have those minor conflicts anymore.'

He muttered to himself.

Chen Lu then asked, "You came to see the show?"

“Yes, but the child refused to see me, and I couldn’t find you either, so I had the driver pick me up.” Mo Wenbin sighed softly. “It’s normal for you young people to have friction. Remember to communicate more. Just throwing tantrums won’t solve the problem.”

"good."

“I’ve watched you grow up. I feel at ease knowing you’re by Yuqing’s side.” Mo Wenbin said earnestly, “Come over and have a meal with me when I have some free time. I have to go now.”

"Alright, goodbye Uncle Mo."

Chen Lu hung up the phone politely, and only then did he breathe a sigh of relief.

Although Mo Wenbin had been very good to me since I was a child, I was still a little nervous as a college student talking on the phone with a high-ranking official of that level.

What's more, they might be here to seek justice for their own precious daughter.

No sooner had one call ended than another came in.

"And who is this?" Chen Mo continued to ask.

Chen Lu stared at his phone screen speechlessly. "Our dad."

Why should I suffer the consequences of Mo Yuqing's crazy antics?

"Hey," Chen Lusheng said listlessly.

"What's going on between you and Yuqing?" Chen Guanglin asked in a more casual tone, directly interrogating his son.

"It was a minor disagreement; I just explained it to Uncle Mo."

"Hmm." Chen Guanglin still seemed uneasy and added, "If you dare to bully her, I won't wait for your Uncle Mo; I'll break your legs first."

"Why don't you just treat her like your daughter?" Chen Lu said irritably.

Although I've only ever been beaten by my mom since I was a child, I still felt very uncomfortable being threatened.

"I'm hanging up! I still have to take Liang Zhirou home." Chen Lu said as he helped Liang Zhirou fasten her seatbelt. "Tell my mom not to call me again, so she won't come looking for me to blame me."

......

On the other end, Chen Guanglin sighed when he heard the phone hang up.

"What's going on between these two kids?" Wang Xiaoxia, sitting next to Chen Guanglin, asked curiously. "Yuqing was acting so serious on stage."

Chen Guanglin said helplessly, "Don't you know what your own child is like? There's no way we can find out what he doesn't want to talk about."
