It was past 11 p.m. when we came out of the movie.
The two walked out of the movie theater side by side. Chen Lu casually threw the paper tube that had been holding the popcorn into the trash can and vowed never to eat that stuff again.
It's really cloying, especially when paired with milk tea.
"This movie is really good."
Liang Zhirou was still savoring the ending. Her thoughts were simple: she felt happy when she saw others happy.
"Hmm, although the male lead's initial behavior was a bit abstract, I still really liked the story of the two of them redeeming each other later on." Although Chen Lu wasn't paying much attention, he still remembered the general plot.
"No wonder everyone is so eager to pursue love." The girl nodded slightly, then lowered her eyes again. "Unfortunately, not everyone is so lucky."
"That's why it's said that love is a necessity for humanity as a whole, but a luxury for the individual."
"You seem to have a very insightful understanding of everything," Liang Zhirou said, stunned.
Chen Lu shrugged. "I was just talking nonsense."
He had just stepped out of the dark shopping mall when the sweltering air hit him, mixed with the sounds of various cars driving by on the road.
It felt like suddenly stepping from the Arctic into a tropical rainforest, incredibly stuffy.
Sometimes it's cool at night, and sometimes it feels like a sauna; it all depends on the weather.
Just as he was about to complain with a speechless expression, Liang Zhirou gently poked his arm.
"I...I need to use the restroom," the girl said somewhat shyly.
Chen Lu wasn't sure if she wanted to go back to the cinema or find a public restroom, so he asked, "Shall I walk you to the entrance?"
Liang Zhirou quickly waved her hand, "No need."
"Then I'll wait here."
"Take a few more steps, or you'll get bitten by mosquitoes."
The girl left in a hurry after she finished speaking, seemingly only thinking about returning as soon as possible.
Chen Lu stood under Bai Zhe's lamplight, feeling the atmosphere of the late night.
Looking back, it's been a long time since I've been out this late.
He watched the girl's retreating figure with a smirk until she reached the corner. Then, he came to his senses and saw a mosquito land on his arm.
Snap!
Damn it, why haven't these incredible creatures all died out yet?
Chen Lu grumbled from the bottom of his heart, unable to imagine what contribution such disgusting creatures could possibly make to the ecological environment.
The meaning of living is limited to disgusting people.
As he thought to himself, he stretched out his arm under the light.
Q: What do guys do when they're extremely bored?
Chen Lu's answer was that he would even use himself as bait to "fish".
A short while later, he killed four more mosquitoes that had landed on his arm.
"Having shot down five enemy planes, I can apply for ace pilot certification."
He muttered to himself listlessly.
Just then, a figure approached. He thought it was Hanhan returning, but when he looked up, his expression quickly turned dejected again.
"Hey, senior. What brings you here?"
A boy with curly hair greeted us with a dismissive tone.
Chen Lu ignored him and pointed with his thumb to the cinema's nighttime screening passage behind him.
The boy didn't seem to be giving up. He took the girl's hand and sighed, "So, on May 20th, I have to come to the movies alone?"
He then chuckled, "Why be a simp, right?"
Chen Lu gave a similarly unfriendly smile, thinking to himself, "It's like you didn't pursue me back then."
Chen Lu still remembered this guy quite well. After he came to school, he pursued two girls. One girl liked him, and the other was Mo Yuqing.
So in the end, he didn't win over any of them, and his ex-girlfriend even caught him pursuing other girls while they were still dating.
How novel and insecure it is to blame your rival for not winning someone's heart.
"Go back to Gotham quickly, Batman said he won't hit you anymore."
After mentally ranting, Chen Lu casually asked, "How long have you been together?"
"We got together at the beginning of this semester, so it's been almost half a year now. Sigh, I really didn't expect that a senior who's ranked high in the entire law school, especially on a late night like May 20th, would actually come out to see a movie alone." The boy said, then gave a thumbs up. "You must be a bit aloof, I know."
"No way, it's mainly because you realized it early," Chen Lu replied with a smile. "If only I had stopped chasing after it in time like you."
He originally didn't intend to pay any attention to this guy, but since someone kept diving the tower and feeding kills, he couldn't just sit idly by.
Giving in a little is the bottom line; if it happens a second time, you're asking for trouble.
The boy paused for a moment, then quickly glanced at the girl beside him. Noticing that she seemed a little unhappy, he hurriedly walked into the movie theater.
Just as he was about to enter, Chen Lu grabbed his arm.
"You didn't seamlessly transition, did you?"
Chen Lu looked at him with a serious expression, her tone full of curiosity and surprise, "How come I remember you were still pursuing Mo Yuqing at the end of last semester? I heard you even stayed in Hangzhou to work a summer job?"
As soon as he finished speaking, the girl forcefully let go of his hand.
"You're mistaken!" The boy quickly shook off Chen Lu.
"It's quite possible that I remembered it wrong..."
Chen Lu frowned and said, then looked at the girl again, "Girl, don't be angry. I have a bad memory. Let me ask a friend we both know."
"I absolutely cannot let you two have a fight because I misremembered something!"
He declared righteously that ever since that guy jumped into the pit he had dug, he had no intention of letting the matter end so easily.
