Chapter 10 Chapter 10 "Dismissing Guan Mi"
Chen Yanfeng and Gao Qi sat opposite each other at the window seat of the Japanese restaurant.
The rain that had been holding back outside for a long time finally started to fall.
Shen Yanfeng handed the menu directly to Gao Qi.
She took the menu and asked, "What don't you want to eat?"
"No, order whatever you want." He picked up the teacup.
Gao Qi quickly ordered a few signature dishes and handed the menu to the waiter waiting beside him.
After the waiter left, she took a sip of tea and said, "This shop...was recommended by Secretary Guan, right?"
Shen Yanfeng paused, "This is part of her job."
"That is to say, she usually interferes in your private affairs." Gao Qi looked inquiringly.
Shen Yanfeng frowned slightly, but a faint smile hung on his lips: "It's an exaggeration to say 'interfere', but she is indeed qualified to arrange my schedule."
Gao Qi gently put down the teacup. "A marriage between the Shen and Gao families will benefit both of us. After marriage, I won't interfere too much with your personal space. You can still continue your hobbies."
She paused and looked directly at him: “I only have one condition.”
Shen Yanfeng said nothing, just looked at her.
"Fire Guan Mi."
Shen Yanfeng chuckled when he heard this, "Sister Gao Qi, the marriage is the wish of the elders, I never gave my approval."
The smile on Gao Qi's lips froze for a moment.
She didn't expect that such a simple test would make Shen Yanfeng directly express his attitude.
It seems that Guan Mi's importance in his heart is really more than just an ordinary secretary.
She tried hard to maintain a smile, her voice still gentle: "Yan Feng, you should know better than anyone that with the surname 'Chen', many things are beyond your control. Do you really think you can refuse this marriage?"
The sound of rain is getting heavier outside the window.
Chen Yanfeng looked at the rain curtain and thought of the figure who held an umbrella for him on the streets of Hong Kong.
"How do you know I can't?" he said lightly.
After get off work, Guan Mi went to send the cookies back to Jiangcheng and called Guan Tang by the way.
Guan Tang answered the call quickly and started sharing how he had earned his first money in his life.
She sold her newly poked doll on 58 for over 200 yuan.
"Sister, when will you come back? I haven't seen you for almost three months."
"I'll be taking my annual leave when I get back from my business trip." Guan Mi crossed the zebra crossing. "The new sunscreen I bought for you should be arriving tomorrow. Tell Dad to pick it up when he gets off work."
"Okay, thank you, sister!" Guan Tang's tone suddenly lowered. "Sister, why don't you go home this weekend? My parents have been arguing a lot lately, sometimes even in front of me."
"What are they arguing about?" Guan Mi frowned.
I didn't hear Qiao Qiuying mention this when I spoke to her on the phone yesterday.
Guan Tang said, "Dad seems to be transferring to a primary school in the city next semester. The salary there will definitely be much higher, but Mom doesn't really want him to go."
Guan Mi was silent for a while, "Okay, I'll go back tomorrow morning."
"Really?!" The girl on the other end of the phone laughed happily, "Then I will give the money I earn to my mother and let her buy your favorite dishes."
"Well, don't buy too much. Ask mom to buy some more sweet potato leaves..." These anti-inflammatory and antioxidant vegetables are very suitable for Guan Tang.
The two sisters chatted for almost ten minutes before hanging up the phone.
Guan Mi tucked her phone into her bag and held it tight. It was Friday, and traffic was everywhere. Even at this hour, the subway station was incredibly crowded, with heads everywhere.
She had to go see Shen Yanfeng's cat, then go home to pack her luggage, as she had to leave for Paris on Monday night.
I haven't seen Becky for a while. The nanny has fed her a lot and she has gained weight. She is getting rounder and rounder.
Guan Mi washed his hands and took out a cat toy from the cabinet full of cat toys.
The living room was monitored by a surveillance camera, which Shen Yanfeng mainly used to watch Becky when he was not at home, and the best angle for the surveillance camera was the area around her exclusive sofa.
"Becky~" She shook the cat toy, and the sound of the bell immediately attracted Becky's attention. It was originally licking its fur, but its ears pricked up instantly and it rushed over.
After playing for half an hour, her hands were sore and the cat was tired.
She leaned over and touched it, and was about to put the cat toy back when she heard Shen Yanfeng's low voice coming from the camera on the wall.
"Thanks for your hard work."
Guan Mi subconsciously straightened his back, thought for a moment, then picked up the cat again and moved closer to the camera. Both the cat and the person tilted their heads back.
Of course, Becky was forced.
"Mr. Shen, Becky has reached the required amount of exercise today."
"I see."
"Meow~" Becky suddenly pricked up her ears, obviously because she heard her father's voice.
"The Japanese restaurant you recommended is very good." he said suddenly.
It seems that he and Gao Qi had a smooth meal this time.
Guan Mi smiled from the bottom of his heart. Anyone would be happy to be praised by the boss.
"I'll take a taxi back later," he said. "I'll pay for it."
Guan Mi shook his head and said no.
"I'll call you." He insisted.
She hurriedly said: “Boss Shen, I can do it myself.”
"Write down the license plate and send it to me."
Before leaving, Guan Mi opened an imported soup can and added a few dozen milliliters of water to it. After Becky finished drinking it, she went to the cat's automatic litter box and waited until it finished peeing before leaving.
Before getting in the car, she took a picture of the taxi's license plate and sent it to Shen Yanfeng.
I feel a little strange.
In the past, if she got off work very late, Wen Li would do this too, or talk on the phone with her all the way.
But maybe she was overthinking it. Chen Yanfeng was well-educated, probably more out of a sense of responsibility as a boss to his subordinates. Moreover, sometimes when the president hosted a dinner party, the vice president would ask the girls to pay attention to the license plates and report back when they got home.
The taxi stopped at the entrance of the community. Guan Mi paid and asked for the invoice. When she was about to get off, she saw Wen Li standing under a tree. She blinked hard to make sure she hadn't seen him, then quickly pushed the car door and got out.
Every time they met, she liked to snuggle in Wen Li's arms and be held firmly by him.
After the tenderness was over, she looked up, smiled and said in a complaining tone: "Here you go again, and you didn't tell me in advance."
Wen Li lowered his head and rubbed her forehead. "Don't you have to work overtime? I don't want to distract you."
Guan Mi pulled him inside and said, "You always come to my side. Is it okay with uncle and aunt?"
"To be honest, they are quite opinionated."
She paused and looked back at him.
He laughed and said, "They have a lot of complaints. They say why I didn't marry you home quickly. I'm afraid that the good daughter-in-law I have just got will run away."
"Just make it up." Guan Mi snorted and laughed, "I'd never believe your parents would say such a thing even if you beat them to death."
"Yeah, that's right. Actually, these are all my true feelings." Wen Li rubbed the back of Guan Mi's head as they walked past the street lights into the darkness. "Miss Guan, after meeting my parents, the next step is to propose, right?"
"You can't eat hot tofu in a hurry."
"I do like it cold."
…
There was no one in the rented house. The two roommates had reconciled and planned to go to the neighboring province to escape the summer heat this weekend.
Guan Mi packed a few sets of clothes and went to the same hotel with Wen Li.
This time they found a Hunan restaurant near the hotel and ordered most of the spicy dishes on the table. The two of them had similar tastes, both loved spicy food and both disliked celery.
In fact, Guan Mi and Wen Li have a lot in common. They usually like to stay at home and read books, watch movies and listen to music. They don’t like socializing. If they have to go out, it is to travel. They like mountains, sea and nature.
When Guan Mi went to take a shower, Wen Li was writing a report on his computer.
When Guan Mi's phone rang for the second time, he hesitated for a moment before picking it up. He was afraid it was a work message, so he clicked on it to take a look.
One is a transfer message.
Mr. Shen: [Arrived?]
The next one above is a photo of Guan Mifa’s license plate.
Wen Li continued to look up and flip through the chat history. When he heard the sound of water in the bathroom stop, he looked away, put down his phone, and continued to look at the computer screen.
Guan Mi came out wiping his hair, "Go wash it."
"Drink your soup first and then blow-dry your hair, or it'll get cold." Wen Li closed his computer and pointed at his phone. "Someone sent you a WeChat message."
"Who?" Guan Mi wrapped her hair with a towel, her face rosy and white from the heat from the bathroom.
"Your boss." Wen Li said in a flat tone.
As soon as she finished speaking, she walked over quickly and picked up her phone to look at it.
He turned to see her typing, her expression unchanged.
Inexplicably, he breathed a sigh of relief.
He put his computer on the TV cabinet and asked casually, "Is registering taxi license plates part of my job now?"
This kind of content would never appear in previous chat records.
Maybe he was too sensitive, but since this summer he had vaguely felt that something was changing.
"No, today... is a bit special." After Guan Mi replied, he turned off the screen and walked to the dining table. The chicken soup was specially made by Aunt Wen Li, so he came all the way here to bring it to her.
"I went to look after Mr. Shen's cat after get off work. The transfer was for the car fare he reimbursed me." She opened the lid and said, "I was doing a private business for him. If anything happens, he will be responsible, right? That's why I issued the license plate. And everyone does this during departmental gatherings."
Wen Li raised his eyebrows slightly: "That makes sense, but it makes me quite unhappy."
Guan Mi listened to these jealous words, lowered his eyes and smiled: "Don't worry about it."
The two of them took the high-speed train back. As soon as they came out of Jiangcheng Station, Guan Mi's phone rang. Wen Li stretched out his hand to stop a taxi, and when he heard the ringtone, he turned his head and glanced at her.
You could almost tell who was calling by the speed at which she answered the phone.
The taxi stopped in front of him. He got out, opened the door, and waited for her to get in.
"I'm sorry, Mr. Shen, I'm going back to my hometown and won't be back in Beijing until tomorrow night." Guan Mi leaned over and got into the car and sat down.
Chen Yanfeng was about to return from Sanya and asked her to pick him up at the airport, saying that he had a work dinner in the evening and needed her to go with him.
"Did you come back suddenly? Is there something urgent?" he asked on the phone.
Guan Mi took the water from Wen Li and said, "I have some personal matters to deal with."
"Is there anything I can help you with?"
"No, thank you, Mr. Shen."
Shen Yanfeng chuckled softly, "Have a good rest, it's okay to come back on Tuesday."
After hanging up the phone, Guan Mi took a sip of water.
Normally she was always on call on weekends, but now she had to turn down work, and she felt a little uncomfortable.
?
She must be crazy. Weekends are a natural time for rest, but she actually has this kind of mentality.
"Mimi, what are you thinking about?" Looking at Guan Mi who was holding the water bottle in a daze, Wen Li's face was slightly tense and he spoke in a slightly anxious voice.
Guan Mi came back to his senses, shook his head and said, "I was thinking about taking Xiaotang for a follow-up checkup tomorrow. I happen to be at home."
"Director Xu doesn't work on weekends, so he might not be in Jiangcheng." Wen Li paused, "I'll go ask my dad..."
"No need," Guan Mi quickly stopped him, "I just did it on a whim. Xiaotang's follow-up examination is scheduled for next month."
After she finished speaking, she noticed Wen Li's gaze and held his hand: "Boss Shen has a dinner party tonight and wants me to go. I didn't agree immediately like before. Although he didn't say anything, I suddenly feel a little uncomfortable..."
She chuckled softly and said self-deprecatingly, "Maybe I'm a workaholic at heart, and I'm even more obsessed with it than I thought."
Guan Mi did not deliberately try to make Wen Li happy, but chose to be honest with him.
In her opinion, sincerity can resolve many conflicts better than any other skills.
Long-distance relationships are prone to make people suspicious. It is so precious to be able to trust each other and be firm with each other at such a distance.
Wen Li knew that she also knew what made him unhappy, so he didn't hold it in anymore. He shook her hand firmly and said a little aggrievedly, "Do you know that every time you answer your boss's call, you are very quick, as if you are afraid that you will miss his call?"
"He's my boss," Guan Mi smiled with a frown, "and I'm quick to answer anyone's calls, except when my phone isn't with me."
"Especially yours. Sometimes I'll find a way to answer it while I'm at work." Her tone was particularly gentle in the last sentence.
Wen Li felt a little better. He bent down and kissed the back of her hand. "I find that I'm becoming more and more petty."
Guan Mi poked the top of his head and said, "You just know."
