Chapter 47 Chapter 47 A Mess

Chapter 47 Chapter 47 A Mess

Guan Mi's chest heaved violently, his nails digging deep into his palms. He forced himself to look him in the eye: "What do you want?"

Shen Yanfeng didn't answer, but took a step forward.

Guan Mi subconsciously stepped back, his hands still tightly gripping the door panel.

"It's been so long," he said, his gaze falling on her slightly trembling hands. "You can't even offer me a cup of tea?"

"There's no tea here."

"Plain water, then." He glanced at the simple furnishings in the room. "Or, would you rather talk here?"

The sound of a neighbor opening the door came from the corridor. Guan Mi bit his lip and stepped aside to make way.

Chen Yanfeng walked in and grabbed her hand that was still on the door. His palm slid across the back of her hand and then he wrapped her tightly, feeling her body temperature and trembling.

He closed the door with his backhand, took Guan Mi's hand, who had calmed down after struggling in vain, and stood in the middle of the living room, looking at this small but tidy space.

Her dress was hanging on the balcony, shells and colorful beads were scattered on the wooden table, and a plaid blanket was draped over the sofa. Every detail told the story of her life in the past few months.

"It seems like you're doing well."

He was worried she wouldn't have enough money, that she'd go back to living a more frugal life, even more so than before. All day and all night, he thought about her, her eyes, her body, everything about her. He also wondered if she'd lost weight. She'd finally gained some weight while they were together, so what if she went back to her old size?

But he forgot that she was a girl with a strong inner core, smart, capable, and able to endure any hardship.

Now the burden on her shoulders has been lightened, she has started her own small business, and her living place is decorated as warmly as home. It is obvious that she is living a better life than before.

That's good.

But he wondered, if he had found her later, one year, three years, six years... would she have completely taken root here, or even married an unknown man, and lived a life that had nothing to do with him anymore?

No. How could he? He was hers. If he ever went mad and allowed her to marry, he would be her dowry, and they would be buried together after death.

His gaze fell back on Guan Mi's face, and his fingertips stroked the back of her cold hand. "Don't be afraid, I'm not here to settle accounts with you."

When Guan Mi heard this, a chill ran up from his toes to his heart.

I reminded her specifically, but she still said no.

"Then what are you doing here?"

There was a sting in her voice, stinging at his lingering ghost, and resentment, resentment at how he could come, and a hint of sob that she didn't even notice, "I've already hidden here..."

Chen Yanfeng stared at her slightly red eyes, caressing the corners of her trembling eyes lovingly, but a faint sneer hung on the corner of his mouth: "Why are you hiding?"

His fingertips slid down her cheek to her chin and slowly lifted it up. "You don't want to stay in Beijing, just tell me. Go back to Jiangcheng, go to Marseille, or just come here. I can do whatever you want."

"But you ran away without saying a word. What does that mean?"

Guan Mi's eyes were getting more and more moist: "You are here to settle accounts with me, you just won't let me go. If you are willing to part ways amicably, I won't hide. Now that you are here, I feel that my good days are coming to an end again."

There was nothing she could do. She didn't want to cry, but she just couldn't control herself. She simply gave up and let the tears fall. No matter how strong Shen Yanfeng was, he would always feel a little soft-hearted when he saw her tears.

The back of Shen Yanfeng's hand was soaked by her tears that suddenly rolled down, and the warmth made him pause.

He looked at her tears falling, and a hint of relaxation flashed across his cold brows.

The other hand that had been holding her raised and wiped her tears, but his teeth were clenched slightly. "You are crying and feeling wronged like this, and you call me a sinner. What do you want to do? Do you think I will feel guilty, and then turn around and walk out this door, never to see you again?"

"Then you are too naive." He held her red face in his hands and gently told her a cruel fact: "You think your good days are over, but my good days are about to begin."

Guan Mi's annoyance quickly invaded his brain, and he began to push him, "Chen Yanfeng, you bastard! Why... why do you treat me like this!"

She clenched her fist and landed on his chest. Chen Yanfeng remained motionless, letting her vent her anger. He simply lowered his head and looked at her tears as she held back. "Just because I've been looking for you for over five months, and just because there hasn't been a single day in these 152 days that I haven't thought about you."

"You colluded with the Shen family, you drugged me, and you meticulously devised an escape plan. Before that, you tricked me into submission, and at my most..." Her tears welled up again, and he swallowed the lump in his throat. "Okay, all of this is in the past. Let's not dwell on it anymore. Can we start over?"

Guan Mi shook his head, his voice filled with determination: "I don't want to start over with you."

She was fed up with being under surveillance, fed up with living in fear every day of angering Shen Yanfeng and being locked up by him!

"Okay." Chen Yanfeng suddenly smiled, "Then continue. Don't forget, the day you left, we spent the whole day in bed together. No one between us has ever mentioned breaking up."

He leaned over and wrapped one arm around her waist. He tilted his head, cupping her face as she tried to dodge, and buried his head in her neck, breathing in the familiar scent and letting out a satisfied sigh.

"Since no one has mentioned breaking up, I'll just treat this period as a cold war." His lips brushed her earlobe faintly: "It's my fault. I made you angry. Now that I'm here to apologize in person, you have to give me a chance to change, right?"

Guan Mi trembled violently in his arms, not because of emotion, but because of uncontrollable anger and despair.

She jerked her head back, trying to escape his hot breath. "Chen Yanfeng, you're always like this...always talking to yourself!"

"You don't understand why I ran away. It's not because I'm angry, it's because I'm suffocating!"

She raised her hand to press against his chest, which was getting closer and closer. "Your behavior now will only make me want to escape more."

The man in front of her suddenly stopped moving. He straightened up and looked at her seriously, as if trying to find the answer from her face.

"Then what should I do to satisfy you?"

Guan Mi looked up at him. He had lost a lot of weight, and his once handsome features were even more angular. There was a faint blue shadow under his dark eyes, as if he hadn't had a good night's sleep for a long time.

She believed that he had been looking for her for more than five months, and she also believed in his feelings for her, but she couldn't bear this persistence. What she longed for was freedom, but he was the one who would keep her imprisoned.

She looked him straight in the eye and said word by word, "Leave here and don't do anything."

Shen Yanfeng raised the corner of his lips: "Except this."

He had finally found her, so how could he just leave like that? He was not the type to back down easily.

He needs Guan Mi. Without her, he would feel like he couldn't breathe smoothly.

He took a step back and softened his voice: "I won't do anything you don't like again."

Guan Mi looked at him, saying nothing, only sighing deeply in her heart. She should have known that she couldn't persuade, beat, or even hide from this man's terrible paranoia.

She turned around, squeezed her eyes which were dry from crying, and tried to find something to do. She just didn't want to pay attention to him.

At that moment, Li Ke arrived. He called her twice at the door, but when he heard no response, he knocked on it anxiously.

As for Shen Yanfeng, he was showing weakness and compromising in the last second, but the next second he heard a man calling Guan Mi, and his whole face quickly became gloomy.

Guan Mi could clearly feel that the gaze behind her suddenly became as sharp as a knife, almost piercing her back.

She didn't even need to look back to imagine how gloomy his expression was at the moment.

"Li Fei, Li Fei, are you in there?" Li Ke shouted loudly outside the door.

"I'm here." Facing that gaze, Guan Mi responded with gritted teeth.

Li Ke put his ear to the door, listening carefully to the movement inside: "Are you okay?"

Protecting Guan Mi is one of his jobs, and he can't be negligent.

Just as he finished speaking, the door opened unexpectedly.

Just as he was about to fall forward, Li Ke quickly steadied himself and looked up to meet Shen Yanfeng's cold gaze. His heart trembled, but his face remained expressionless.

He looked at the man in front of him, bowed his head slightly, and said respectfully: "Mr. Shen."

Shen Yanfeng had a blank expression on his face, "What's the matter?"

Li Ke raised his eyes and quickly received the look from Guan Mi. He understood and immediately lowered his gaze. "It's okay. I just checked Miss Guan's safety as usual. Since Mr. Shen is here, I believe Miss Guan is fine. Sorry for disturbing you."

After he finished speaking, he bowed slightly and then turned to go downstairs.

The door was closed by Shen Yanfeng neither lightly nor heavily.

He turned around, his eyes fixed on Guan Mi's face, "Ms. Shao did a great job in arranging a bodyguard for you."

He walked over and a shadow fell.

"But," he said with a hint of amusement in his voice, "isn't this bodyguard's main responsibility to be specifically on guard against me?"

Guan Mi's breathing tightened, and the words "what else" almost slipped out of her mouth, but she swallowed them back in time. She lowered her eyes, avoiding his all-seeing gaze: "You're overthinking it."

The living room fell silent.

Shen Yanfeng stared at Guan Mi quietly.

Her long eyelashes cast a light shadow under her eyes, and her lips were slightly pursed.

She looked... a little afraid of him.

What he wanted was to have her stay by his side willingly, to feel her warmth and her breath, instead of having her be like a frightened bird, ready to flap her wings and fly away from his wings at any time.

Scare her like this was the opposite of what he wanted.

What he had to do was to make her truly fall in love with him, rather than forcing her through threats and force.

"Kanya," he said slowly, "look at me."

Guan Mi didn't listen. He looked at his own shoes and then his shoes. He just didn't want to look at him.

After waiting patiently for half a minute, Shen Yanfeng took a step closer, the tip of his shoe almost touching hers.

Guan Mi wanted to step back, but there was a sofa behind her. Her calves hit the armrest and her body went limp and she fell down.

Shen Yanfeng withdrew his hand that was originally about to support her, half-knelt down, and looked up into her eyes.

In this position, there was nowhere for her to hide from sight.

He held her hand and stroked his cheek with her clammy palm.

The skin under my palm was warm, and I could even feel the slight movement of his jaw when he spoke.

"Have you never thought of me even once in these 152 days?"

"Answer me, or I'll pry your mouth open," he said gently.

Guan Mi frowned and said, "No."

Instead of getting angry, Chen Yanfeng smiled, a hint of smile in his eyes, "But I miss you so much. In order to find you, I even thought about faking my own death and forcing you to come out."

He said self-deprecatingly, "But who knows? What if you hate me so much that you don't even want to attend the funeral?"

Guan Mi replied calmly: "Not necessarily."

"I want to stay here tonight." Shen Yanfeng changed the subject.

"No." Guan Mi refused immediately, "I don't want to have sex with you."

This sentence was very against Guan Mi's will before she went to sleep last night. All she could think about was the man in front of her, and at the last moment, she even unconsciously called out his name.

Chen Yanfeng didn't notice Guan Mi's awkwardness. He pressed his lips against her palm and kissed her twice. He said calmly, "There's no rush for this. When you're willing, we'll do it properly."

Guan Mi stared at him, her mind in a mess. She didn't understand what she was doing or why she was sitting here chatting with him so calmly.

The answer came quickly - because she couldn't resist him at all.
