Pink and tender
The winter vacation for No. 1 Middle School started late, lasting until the end of January, just ten days before the Spring Festival.
Because Class 20 had excellent academic performance this semester and won first prize in the New Year's Day singing competition held some time ago, the class teacher Ding Jie arranged a celebration banquet on the last day of the semester.
They set up a meeting in the classroom, with eight people at each table eating hot pot. Except for some difficult ones, they washed and cooked most of the ingredients themselves, turning the classroom into a restaurant kitchen.
Except for Wen Jing, Tan Yue and Chen Die, all the others at her table were boys.
I don’t know if they were really hardworking or just pretending, but I didn’t let the three girls do anything, and they all rushed to finish the work.
Wen Jing didn't do much housework at home, so since they were rushing to do it, she just sat there and watched with peace of mind.
Chen Songyan was obviously the most active one. Judging from the pink apron wrapped around his waist, which he got from somewhere, and his skillful knife skills, Wen Jing concluded that he was really hardworking.
The apron is quite slimming when tied with the belt, and Wen Jing looked at it with great interest.
Pink is delicate and is best suited for boys of sixteen or seventeen years old.
It's just that the English letters on the apron look weird.
"Hahaha, you are indeed a good wife. Whoever marries you will be blessed." Zhou Meng laughed wildly beside him.
Chen Songyan seemed to have just noticed the meaning of the English letters on the apron and kicked him: "What kind of feudal dregs apron did you buy?"
"What do you know? Isn't this tailor-made for you? And the apron is torn. Aren't you disgusting?"
Wen Jing laughed out loud beside her.
Her smile caught the attention of both men. Chen Songyan's expression became unnatural as he spoke word by word, "I'm talking about feudal dregs—a tattered apron! You uneducated idiot! How did you get into No. 1 Middle School?"
"Cao, my high school entrance exam score is higher than yours!"
"Wen Jing!" Chen Die, who had just returned to her seat, interrupted the quarrel between the two with a shout, "Hu Wei is looking for you, he's at the door!"
Wen Jing glanced at the door and saw Hu Wei looking around, so she walked out.
As soon as she left, Zhou Meng asked Chen Die, "What's the relationship between that guy in the special class and Wen Jing? I always see him coming to see Wen Jing."
"It seems to be a junior high school classmate."
"Are they on good terms?" Zhou Meng asked again, while Chen Songyan was also staring at Chen Die.
"No, I feel that although Wen Jing has a good temper, she isn't very close to anyone. She and Hu Wei are probably just ordinary classmates. At most, they just have a mutual admiration for each other."
"That's true! But how do you know Wen Jing isn't close to anyone?"
"I can tell! Tan Yue isn't very close to her roommates, and Chen Songyan isn't even as close as she and Hu Wei!"
Chen Songyan, who was inexplicably named, was not willing to be outdone: "Who said that? We are quite familiar with each other now." In fact, it was only slightly better than when school started, but at least they could talk a few more words.
Wen Jing, who had just rejected Hu Wei's invitation to go home with him, heard Chen Songyan's words as soon as she entered the door.
Without thinking, she subconsciously asked: "Who is it?"
Chen Songyan blushed and glanced at Chen Die, but Chen Die didn't see it at all: "He said he knows you very well now."
Wen Jing looked at Chen Songyan with interest and saw that his neck was red and he seemed embarrassed.
What are you thinking about that makes you so embarrassed?
Wen Jing smiled and said, "Yeah, we've been desk mates for a whole semester, so how could we not be familiar with each other, right?"
Chen Songyan, who didn't expect her to ask him this question suddenly, was stunned for a moment before saying "Yes". He felt inexplicably relaxed and smiled.
"Alright! What's the big deal about whether the food is cooked or not? We're all in the same class and everyone is familiar with the food. The important thing now is to cook the food! Hurry up and clean up, and get ready to cook!" Zhou Meng urged them.
They were still in the back row and were supposed to form a group with the four people in the next back row. However, Zhou Meng brought the three brothers around him over, so the other four had to form a group somewhere else.
"Who ordered the onions? They're so strong?" Zhou Meng saw the onions sizzling in the pan, and said disdainfully to the boys without thinking.
A few boys expressed their doubts. Chen Songyan just finished preparing the dipping sauce and came over and said, "It's a little warm and quiet. Don't give it to her."
Zhou Meng didn't say anything, and soon Wen Jing and Chen Die also came over.
"Wen Jing, your onions are ripe and can be eaten." Chen Die reminded her.
Wen Jing's eyes lit up. She picked up a piece of browned pork, dipped it in the chili powder in the bowl, and put it in her mouth, feeling a sense of satisfaction.
"Is it really that delicious? Let me try it." Zhou Meng picked up a small piece and frowned slightly. "It does have a unique flavor."
Chen Songyan looked at him with a puzzled expression: "Don't, don't you like it? Don't fill all the food for Wen Jing, there isn't much to begin with."
"Hey, Chen Songyan, you..." Zhou Meng was really blocked by him, and tried to change the subject by asking what kind of chili powder Wen Jing used.
Wen Jing talked about five spices.
"Oh, maybe the five-spice one is better. I have the garlic one."
"My spicy one is even better, you..."
"Shut up!" Zhou Meng stuffed a small steamed bun into Chen Songyan's mouth, "I'll go see if there's anything spicy and make some for you guys."
Chen Songyan swallowed the steamed bun and asked, "Did Zhou Meng take the wrong medicine tonight?"
Chen Die had just wrapped a mouthful of meat in lettuce, and she didn't forget to reply: "You must be full."
Wen Jing wanted to laugh when she saw her like that: "Swallow it first."
However, as soon as she finished speaking, Chen Die swallowed hard and started coughing as if she had choked.
"Oh, I told you to pack less at once, and no one's competing with you for it." Tan Yue, who was standing beside him, offered water and patted his back. "Is there really no one in our class that you care about?"
Wen Jing handed her a tissue and saw that her face was red from coughing, but she still wanted to answer: "What else can I care about when I have delicious food!"
“…” What a touching love story between humans and food.
Wen Jing couldn't help but complain: "Wipe your mouth first, it's full of oil."
Zhou Meng had returned by now, holding a bag of spicy hot peppers and adding them to each other's bowls. Seeing Wen Jing and the other two busy, he took the initiative to say, "I'll pour it in your bowls."
As he was about to pour it into the dipping sauce dish that Wen Jing had placed on the table, Wen Jing saw that her dipping sauce was about to be ruined when a hand reached out from the side to stop Zhou Meng:
"Don't you even ask others if they can eat it? It's so abnormally spicy!" said Chen Songyan.
"I think everyone should be able to accept this. I even stole this bag from someone else! Don't you think so, Wen Jing?"
"I don't want it!" Wen Jing said firmly, pressing down on her bowl. "I can't accept it!"
Wen Jing usually speaks little, is patient when explaining questions, and speaks softly. She has always been a gentle and quiet image in the class. This is the first time Zhou Meng has seen her like this. He felt a little embarrassed, so he withdrew his hand and put the perverted spicy sauce packet on the table: "Put it here, pour it yourself if you want." Then he sat down and started to eat in silence.
Seeing him like this, Chen Songyan took a piece of pork belly from the pot and gave it to him: "If you eat something super spicy, you can't be super spicy anymore."
A group of people laughed, and the delicate atmosphere just now disappeared in an instant.
Zhou Meng didn't know whether to laugh or cry. He took it and put it in his mouth: "You really have a brain sometimes."
Wen Jing couldn't eat spicy food to begin with, so she chose the relatively less spicy five-spice dish. What she did just now was purely a stress response due to her fear of the abnormal spiciness. She didn't expect Zhou Meng to suddenly get angry.
She didn't think she should apologize and thought everyone would continue to be awkward for a while.
Who would have thought that Chen Songyan would do this?
She couldn't help but stare at Chen Songyan in a daze. Chen Songyan sensed it and turned to ask her: "What's wrong?" Then he looked into the pot and said, "There are no onions."
Wen Jing didn't understand what he meant, but he stood up, looked at the table next to him, and asked, "Isn't anyone eating your onions?"
"No, we don't like it. Do you want it?"
"Yes, yes, we love to eat it."
Soon, a plate of onions appeared in front of Wen Jing.
Wen Jing had a question mark on her head. How did things get to this point?
"I'll move the things in the pot and pour them in for you," Chen Songyan said again.
Wen Jing watched his movements quietly, and suddenly she was startled:
As expected of a guy who loves early on, he has rich experience in taking care of people!
So Chen Songyan saw Wen Jing sit a little further in and didn't say a word to him the whole night.
It was already nine o'clock when the celebration banquet ended. On the way back to the dormitory, Wen Jing received a video call from Shen Hongyu.
On the other end, Shen Hongyu was lying on the bed in his pajamas, his face lit only by the light reflected from his phone. He lowered his voice and said, "Sister, why did you come to see me? I've been waiting for a long time."
The holidays for high school students are naturally not as good as those for elementary school students. Wen Jing has just had her holiday, but Shen Hongyu has already spent half a month on vacation.
Wen Jing didn't answer him directly, but asked: "Is mom home these days?"
"Yes, but I heard my mother tell my aunt that she would be going on a business trip the day after tomorrow, so I'll be alone at home again."
"Then stay at home and I will come to see you tomorrow."
"Really?!" Shen Hongyu shouted excitedly, and then quickly covered his mouth as if afraid of being discovered.
Wen Jing knew that he had to go to bed on time at nine o'clock every day, just like herself when she was a child. She smiled and said, "Well, I lied to you like a puppy. I will call you when the time comes. Now go to bed first, otherwise you won't grow taller."
He is already thin, and if he doesn't grow taller, it will be a disaster. Wen Jing is actually quite worried that he will grow up to be short like herself. If a boy is short, he will be completely cut off from handsome guys.
After all, his younger brother still has a handsome face, but he can’t let his height ruin it.
Thinking of this, she became serious: "Now, put down your phone immediately and go to sleep. Do you hear me?"
"I heard you." Shen Hongyu's slightly soft voice came, Wen Jing said good night to him and hung up the phone.
"Wen Jing!" Chen Die suddenly appeared behind Wen Jing, scaring her.
"I'm sorry! I didn't mean to listen to you on the phone. I just came back and was about to call you, but when I saw you were on the phone, I didn't say anything."
Wen Jing covered her chest: "It's okay."
It's not like she's telling any secrets anyway.
"You have a younger brother?" Chen Die asked her.
"Yeah." Wen Jing replied unenthusiastically.
Chen Die could tell she didn't want to talk about it, so she smiled awkwardly: "Haha, it's nice to have a younger brother. Your brother sounds so well behaved, while I only have an older brother who deserves a beating."
Seeing that they had to walk a distance with her, Wen Jing had no choice but to follow her lead and ask: "Why do you want a beating?"
Chen Die immediately opened up and began to talk nonstop.
Wen Jing only needs to make a little noise from time to time.
She hated traveling with someone in pairs, but it was okay if the other person was a chatterbox and didn't require her to say much.
As she listened, she thought again, it would be great if Chen Die was a member of their family. It would be best to pack her and Chen Songyan together and send them to her brother. Shen Hongyu's temperament would definitely change drastically.
