Chapter 26 Chapter 26 Dormitory Night Chat
"Karl." She took the dried clothes and walked out.
The two of them walked side by side. Seeing that she didn't want to talk, he didn't say a word along the way except for necessary reminders, until she got out of the car and stood outside the fence, watching her back as she walked into the checkpoint, turned left, and disappeared into the shady path.
Mission accomplished, Carl took photos and reported, then took the next train back to the tower.
In the spiritual sea, the outer surface of the roots buried in the soil is wrapped with white fungi, protecting the woody roots inside and forming mycorrhizae. The prismatic particles precipitated by the pollution are decomposed, and the white spots everywhere are elongated, like wearing spotted sleeves.
The long, curled eyelashes trembled slightly, and the shadows of the trees were reflected in the green eyes. A message came from the light brain. Carl lowered his head, the smile on his face disappeared, and his expression became serious.
In the guide dormitory, the pollution alarm sounded an alarm and the entire floor was blocked. During the investigation, another poisoning case was discovered.
The cans are covered with fluorescent light, and the drinks are injected with radioactive substances. After consumption, they will cause poisoning. At first, there are no symptoms and people are unaware of it. Then diarrhea and sore throat will appear, which will be misdiagnosed as influenza. By the time the diagnosis is confirmed, the central nervous system has already suffered serious damage.
The person who was poisoned was an experienced senior guide in the tower. She did not drink much and has been sent to a medical center and is now fine.
Two groups of people were involved, exploiting security loopholes and attempting to stage a terrorist attack. Over the next few days, the White Tower will conduct an internal cleansing to identify the criminals.
training camp.
She returned to the dormitory and saw her two roommates. She reached out and shook their hands. They seemed quite surprised and looked her up and down.
Wu Ke: "You're back?"
Xu Shanshan: "Yes, I have to go to the White Pagoda for work this afternoon."
"I thought you had quit," Wu Ke picked up a red-covered notebook from the table. "New textbooks were distributed today. You can ask the instructor for them."
Clara sat cross-legged on the bed with her eyes closed and her hands clasped together, looking like she was meditating. White light lingered around her, like a Buddha statue.
Wu Ke saw her look of surprise and helped explain: "That's her way of training her mental strength."
"Okay." She turned around and sat down, putting on the uniform shoes.
Wu Ke: "Is the pollution outbreak at the White Pagoda serious?"
Xu Shanshan: “Ah?”
What pollution? How come she didn’t know about this? It was the first time she heard about it. She leaned on the back of the chair and twisted her waist to look.
"Haven't you heard what happened over there?"
Seeing her roommate was an insider, Xu Shanshan sat back with her legs apart, her eyes full of curiosity. Wu Ke couldn't explain it clearly, but she had heard that someone had secretly stored contaminants.
Wu Ke: "You really think your life is too long."
After listening to the news, Xu Shanshan's eyes uncontrollably drifted towards another roommate. Her appearance was so unique, like a large and exquisite doll, and she couldn't help but take a few more glances at her.
Clara finally opened her eyes and uttered her first words: "Do you believe that mental strength can be improved?"
He opened his mouth and answered questions. Her figure was reflected in his gray-white pupils. He stared at her straight, without dodging at all. Xu Shanshan touched her head embarrassedly:
"I don't quite understand. But I think it should be possible, just like exercising," she said, rubbing her calf muscles. Maybe in a couple of days, she'll be able to keep up with the crowd when running. "What do you think?"
Wu Ke: “Of course!”
Wu Ke looked over and saw Clara blink slowly and respond in a low voice, which reassured her. The other party was a strong-willed person who was unwilling to be outdone, but her mental strength level was only C-level.
"Clara is number one in physical training. She's amazing. She always runs first during drills."
"I saw it." Xu Shanshan nodded. There were people in the queue who were in better physical condition than her, but she was able to leave them far behind. She had to admire her.
Wu Ke: "I'm A-level, what about you?"
"A, right?" Her tone was uncertain. It should be, otherwise they wouldn't take her so seriously.
As the alarm rang, it was time to gather for evening training. The chat ended, and we quickly packed up and left the dormitory.
Tonight's training was easier than last night's, mainly because there was an additional ideological and moral education course before the class, and the instructor also boasted to them for a while.
After the class, she followed the instructor, who was still running on the playground. She arrived at the office, but she seemed to have barely noticed her. She kicked the door shut as soon as she entered. Then music started blaring from inside; she must be playing games.
Xu Shanshan sat on the steps at the door, lost in thought for a moment, feeling the White Tower's unreliability growing. Then the first bell rang, signaling dormitory inspection. She stood up and knocked lightly on the door. The music inside stopped, and she said, "Come in."
She turned the doorknob and walked in. She saw a brown-gray sloth on the table. A woman was supporting the table with her hands. There was a miniature game icon in the lower left corner of the screen.
She looked away and pretended not to see: "Instructor, I came to pick up the textbook that was distributed this day. I didn't get it when I went to the White Pagoda this afternoon."
"Okay." The woman leaned over. There was a pile of books under the table. She untied the rope with a razor blade, pulled out a book and handed it to the other person. "Next time, ask your roommate to pick it up for you."
"OK."
Just as she was about to leave, she saw a ghostly figure of a man in the reflection of the glass. It was dark and the road was long, but there was lighting and living people. She asked nervously, "Do we have a male guide here?"
The woman clasped her hands together in front of her chest and said, "There are male guides, but not in this session."
"I saw a man," she stared at the figure in the glass. He was so motionless that even the wind couldn't blow his clothes. He was like a ghost.
"Is he a normal person?"
"Haha," the instructor laughed, raised his hand and pointed outward, "Are you talking about that?"
Xu Shanshan looked outside and saw the slender figure like the midnight killer. "Yes!" She felt a chill. He was everywhere. No matter where she went, he would be there when she turned around. It was as if he had a shadow clone, and others still ignored him.
"You came later and weren't present during the introduction. It's a spiritual form of the security team, like a puppet, capable of releasing multiple ones. It usually serves as a monitoring device, and can respond promptly if anything unexpected happens."
Xu Shanshan: "You mean he created so many puppets by himself?"
"Yes," the woman nodded, sitting back in her chair, her hand moving the mouse across the desktop. "Do you have anything else to say?"
She shook her head, walked out of the room and closed the door, then walked towards the puppet, circling it and looking it up and down. It was an exact one-to-one replica, so lifelike.
"Guide, it's time for you to go back to the dormitory." Suddenly, the breathless puppet opened its mouth and spoke, scaring her so much that she took a few steps back and fell to the ground.
"Okay, okay, okay." She stood up, dusted off the cover of the book, and as she walked back, she couldn't help but look back out of curiosity. Multiple clones, so interesting.
Pushing open the door and entering the dormitory, mist emerged from the shower room. Wu Ke changed into pajamas and walked out with her hair wrapped in a towel. Xu Shanshan took a quick shower, dried herself, and lay down on the bed.
After a while, the second ring rang and Clara pushed the door open. Her face was flushed and covered with sweat. She packed up her toiletries and walked towards the shower room.
The dormitory manager began to check the dormitories. Shortly after the shower sounds stopped, the woman dried her hair and walked out. The third bell rang, the dormitory lights went out, and the three of them went to bed.
After tossing and turning for ten minutes and unable to fall asleep, she opened her eyes and was surprised to see Clara across from her, surrounded by white light. Diagonally across from her, a faint light emerged from Wu Ke's quilt, illuminating the wall.
She was awake and couldn't fall asleep. She had overslept at noon. When she turned over, she suddenly heard Wu Ke say, "Xu Shanshan, are you the guide who just came this month?"
Okay, okay, let’s have a night chat in the girls’ dormitory.
Although no one saw her, she nodded and said, "Yes, are you all locals?"
She heard the other person chuckle, "I'm half local, I guess. I came here with my parents when I was fifteen, and I hadn't awakened yet."
"Others say: 'If you haven't awakened so late, you probably don't have the talent. Even if you eventually differentiate into a guide, your level won't be high.'"
Wu Ke: "I was brought in after I became an adult. I was driving a bus before that." Her tone was normal, but one could still feel a sense of satisfaction from being slapped in the face.
Xu Shanshan: "I was rescued from the contaminated area by someone else. I can't remember anything before that."
Clara: "Lie."
She looked at the woman who opened her eyes in horror, not knowing whether it was because of her ghost appearance or her firm conclusion.
Wu Ke: "Don't mind it, she is just like this. This is her ability. She will feel uncomfortable if she doesn't say it out."
It turns out my roommate is a human lie detector. I'm really curious about her spirit body, so I changed my story: "Before coming here, I had no exposure to any knowledge related to guides."
Clara nodded silently, and it seemed to be verified.
Xu Shanshan: "I heard that the salary of the team guide is better than that of the stationed ones in the tower."
Wu Ke: "Of course, that's why I joined the team."
Clara raised her hand, "Me too."
There was a strange feeling of cuteness. Xu Shanshan also reached out her hand, but unfortunately it couldn't emit any light and was not conspicuous. "Actually, I'm also a poor guy."
"It doesn't matter. I won't be short of money in the future." Wu Ke replied to the last message, turned off the screen, and put her palms behind her head. "Work, subsidies, bonuses, and matching sentinels." She stretched out her fingers and began to count, "One, two, three, four, five... Anyway, it's enough."
Clara: "Yeah."
Wu Ke: "I specially selected the sentinel team. Their assets rank among the top ten in the White Tower."
She was shocked by the straightforward standards and couldn't help asking, "Will I be scolded for this?"
There was silence in the room for a moment. Wu Ke asked, "Why do you think so?"
"I'm saving their lives," she said in a stern tone. "You know, I'm almost sharing the risk with them."
"Without a guide, the sentries can only wait in line, and who knows how long it will take. Guide element is not cheap, and the effect is not very good."
Wu Ke yawned. "Paying money for their lives, don't they understand the cost? I should be grateful that I chose them."
Was it such a naked money transaction? Xu Shanshan nodded thoughtfully, having learned her lesson.
But Clara spoke for a long time, which was unprecedented. "Actually, after the spiritual connection, the Sentinel can't leave the guide, and it has become very easy to control."
Clara: "You won't have to deal with so many people then. Just pick the one you like and deal with the others perfunctorily. Normally, you can just inject the guide element directly, and they won't say anything."
Why did she feel that the topic was gradually going off track and falling into a category that was not allowed by the White Tower? She had accidentally entered into some illegal and criminal group.
Wu Ke: "There's no need to be so extreme."
There were footsteps outside the door, coming from far away and getting closer. It seemed to be the dormitory manager on patrol. They stopped talking and Xu Shanshan closed her eyes, and she kept them closed for the whole night.
