Every heartbeat felt like torture, and every beat made it almost impossible for him to breathe. He gasped for air, trying to ease the pain by taking deep breaths, but found that it was of no use. His face was as pale as paper, his forehead was covered in cold sweat, and his lips were trembling slightly. It seemed that he would lose consciousness at any moment.
As time passed, Bai Di's body began to chill, as if he were in an ice cellar. His skin grew icy cold, and his fingers and toes began to numb. He trembled constantly, his teeth chattering with a clattering sound. Even though Lou Xun held him tightly, wanting to strangle him to death, Bai Di felt incredibly cold and alone, as if the whole world had left him.
Outside, lightning flashed and thunder roared, rain poured down, and a howling wind swept everything away. Flowers, plants, and trees swayed in the wind, as if proclaiming nature's ruthlessness. Inside, Bai Di and Lou Xun hugged each other tightly, tears welling up in Bai Di's eyes. Their loved one had just passed away, and this sudden blow plunged Bai Di into deep grief.
Lou Xun hugged Bai Di tightly, trying to pass on a little warmth and strength to him. Bai Di slowly buried his head in Lou Xun's arms, his body trembling slightly, as if the fear and pain deep in his heart were constantly eroding him. Lou Xun sighed softly. He knew clearly that Bai Di could not accept such a cruel fact, but at this moment, no matter what he said, it seemed so pale and powerless.
The brothers knew that from that moment on, they had forever lost one of their closest family members, a loved one who had given them infinite care and love. On this stormy night with thunder and lightning, their moods were as gloomy and depressing as the inclement weather outside the window.
"Don't be afraid!" Lou Xun patted his brother's back gently again, his tone so gentle that even he was surprised. Even his voice revealed an unprecedented tenderness. "I'm here! Don't worry, Bai Di, I will always be by your side..."
Lou Xun's voice was so gentle that it moved people to pity. However, Bai Di did not respond. He simply closed his eyes silently, lost in endless sorrow. In a trance, he seemed to see his grandfather standing not far away, gazing at him with a serious yet loving look.
Suddenly, Bai Di's vision became blurred, and then darkness enveloped him.
When he woke up again, Bai Di found himself lying on a soft big bed, and Lou Xun was sitting quietly beside the bed, leaning against the bed board, with his eyes closed as if he was asleep.
After waking, Bai Di still felt a bit dazed and dazed. He made no unnecessary movements, simply lying quietly in bed, letting his thoughts gradually clear up. The light in the room was well blocked by the slightly dull curtains, and only a ray of sunlight filtered through the gap and cast a bright spot on the ground. From the corner of his eye, he could see Lou Xun sitting beside the bed, and a complex emotion surged in his heart.
As his eyes fell on the wooden box on the table, he suddenly felt irritated. He realized he was completely fed up with everything he saw, including this seemingly prosperous yet cold palace and the people around him. While the palace was magnificent, it seemed unable to contain his lonely soul.
He once met a pen pal online, communicating through text, sharing each other's feelings and stories. The other person must also be a human, and it seems that they live in a very remote place. Sometimes Bai Di sits at the window, looking at the garden outside, and his heart is filled with tranquility and satisfaction after exhaustion.
In the letter, the other person shared many of his thoughts on flowers and plants, describing their beauty and vitality. He also told him that every flower has its own story, and every leaf has its own soul. He particularly enjoyed walking into the garden in the early morning, feeling the coolness of the dew and the fragrance of the flowers. He would carefully observe the blooming and withering of each flower, feeling the cycle and impermanence of life.
Besides flowers and plants, the other person also mentioned in his letter the mountain streams, the orchards with fruit trees, and the small bridges and maple forests. He told him that although no one would play with him, he would just play on his own. He loved to stroll through the mountains, listening to the gurgling stream and feeling the power and beauty of nature. He would pick fresh fruit in the orchard, savoring its sweetness and juiciness. He would linger on the small bridge, watching the maple leaves fall, and feeling the breath and tranquility of autumn.
Although life can be monotonous, he still has his grandparents with whom he can occasionally take walks, chat at night, and savor the fruits of his harvest. Like him, although his grandfather is still considered a tyrant in everyone's eyes, no one denies his achievements or admires his resourcefulness and ingenuity.
The other person, after hearing about his life, had clearly felt that he was already quite relaxed and at ease. He could freely arrange his time and do what he liked. He could read, write, paint, take walks, and enjoy his alone time. He didn't need to cater to the demands and expectations of others; he could just be himself. Bai Di felt that this kind of life was the truest happiness and freedom.
Their interactions made him feel warm and understood. However, as time went on, he found himself in less and less contact with the outside world. Even though he frequently corresponded, his inner loneliness grew stronger. He longed to communicate with others, hoping that someone would listen to his heart and understand his thoughts.
He even wanted to find his online friend in that village and live the life he envied so much.
He had the ability and was well prepared. He even thought about showing up there suddenly to give his friend a surprise.
