Chapter 107 Bai Di's Choice

Bai Di just listened quietly to Lou Xun's slowly composing words, taking in everything he said without any expression. Lou Xun's narration was undoubtedly detailed, but throughout the whole process, his face remained calm, as if everything was within his expectations and nothing had left a mark on his mind.

After Lou Xun finished speaking, he was about to ask Bai Di if he felt any discomfort when there was a sudden knock on the door. It was undoubtedly Lou Xun's assistant, who told him that someone had heard that the eldest prince had returned and hoped to visit to discuss some important matters.

Lou Xun subconsciously looked at Bai Di. He came back in a hurry this time, and not many people knew about this. The matter he came to discuss with him at this time must be very important.

However, Bai Di did not raise his head, but repeated again: "No matter what I do, you will support me, right, Brother Xun? Don't worry, this is just a casual question."

Lou Xun keenly sensed something was amiss, but the two hadn't seen each other for ages, and faced with the current situation, he felt unusually bewildered. In the end, he could only give a somewhat panicked nod and hurried away as if escaping.

No one could see his expression after he turned around, because after opening the door, he turned back into the omnipotent, decisive, ruthless and clean prince.

He just glanced at his adjutant and then strode out of Bai Di's bedroom.

At this moment, the simple, gorgeous and heavy floor-length curtains in the room were like an indestructible wall, or a mysterious barrier, ruthlessly dividing the world into two halves.

On one side, there is a cool and gloomy atmosphere, which is weird and mysterious, making people feel helpless and inexplicably depressed; on the other side, bright sunshine slants down, and the thick golden gauze flows like a waterfall, bringing endless warmth and hope to people.

On the shadowy side, everything is shrouded in a hazy veil, blurring and obscuring, as if hiding countless unknown secrets. Within the shadows, a mysterious power seems to quietly surge, emitting a chilling aura. On the other side, illuminated by the sun, everything becomes clear, a dazzling golden light illuminating every corner, giving one a sense of thriving vitality and beautiful hope.

On either side of the curtain, there seemed to be two completely different worlds, one filled with mystery and the unknown, the other filled with warmth and hope. And this curtain, like a watershed of fate, separated the two people's destinies forever into different worlds.

But due to busy government affairs, Lou Xun soon had no time to think about Bai Di's strangeness.

Sure enough, not long after, Bai Di left behind only a letter. In the letter, he told Lou Xun that he was going to another place to study spiritual power. He had completed all the progress here and wanted to try more different lives.

In the letter, he also wrote that he did not want Lou Xun to look for him. He would definitely not be in too much danger. After all, both the Emperor and Lou Xun had protected him very well over the years. Except for some very necessary people, there was very little news about him in the outside world, and some people around him basically knew very little about him. No portrait of him had been leaked throughout the country.

The afterglow of the setting sun filtered through the window, casting patches of light and shadow on the dining table. Lou Xun stood there quietly, clutching the letter tightly in his hand, his heart filled with uneasiness that surged like a tide.

A rare look of confusion and loss flashed through his eyes, as if the entire world had lost its color at that moment. The worries he'd been having for the past few days had finally come true; Bai Di's departure ultimately confirmed the old emperor's words.

Before Bai Di's grandfather died, he drove everyone out and only left Lou Xun.

The frail old man no longer held the majestic air of an emperor, only the decrepitude of a fading age. His eyes narrowed slightly, their cloudiness sometimes revealing a hint of clarity. He lay quietly on the palace's exquisitely decorated bed. His robes, though somewhat worn, bore the appearance of being very expensive, yet still exuded a majestic aura.

His face was covered in wrinkles, the traces of time deeply etched into his features. His hair had turned gray, and the sparse strands fluttered gently in the breeze. His lips trembled slightly, as if he was saying something.

He slowly opened his eyes, a faint light flickering in them. His gaze fell on Lou Xun, and the corners of his mouth lifted slightly, revealing a faint smile.

"Lou Xun..." His voice was low and hoarse, with a hint of fatigue.

Lou Xun hurried to the bedside and held the old man's hand.

"Your Majesty, I am here," he said softly.

The old man nodded slightly, with a hint of relief and a hint of obscurity in his eyes.

"I know I don't have much time left, and there are some things I must explain clearly." His voice became lower and lower, as if it would break off at any time.

Lou Xun held the old man's hand tightly and nodded to show that he understood.

The old man took a deep breath and continued, "I have worked hard for this country all my life, hoping that it would prosper. But now it seems that my wish may not come true."

Lou Xun remained silent, his heart filled with grief.

"However, I believe you young people will have a better way." The old man's eyes flickered. "Especially you, Lou Xun. Although I don't know your background, I don't care. When Bai Di turns 18, I believe he will be as outstanding as you, with your extraordinary wisdom and courage. The two of you will definitely lead this country to a better future."

The old man closed his eyes immediately after he finished speaking, looking very tired and as if he was already sleepy.
