Chapter 202: Old Cause (Part 2)

As the saying goes, 'A common man is innocent, but he is guilty of possessing a treasure.' Your talent is so strong that I simply cannot trade with you."

Nansong's answer was merciless, and he didn't seem to have much sympathy for Dilin's situation.

However, Dilin did not give up. His voice rang out again, with a hint of determination:

"But I am... willing to trade with you."

This time, Dilin's voice was unusually firm, without the slightest hesitation.

Nan Song was silent for a moment, then chuckled:

"If what you say is true..."

Her voice was as light as a falling crow feather, yet so heavy that it seemed to carry the sigh of eternity.

Her fingertips unconsciously stroked the branches of the crystal tree, and those sealed balls of memory light trembled slightly under her touch, as if in fear, or begging.

"Then how can I protect myself?"

She slowly raised her eyes, the illusory moonlight and mist reflected in her eyes.

"Your talent is truly captivating—to glimpse the ripples of fate, to hear the whispers before the annihilation of all things... What an enviable power!"

The corners of her mouth curled up in an almost sad arc, and her fingertips brushed across the cluster of blue flames between her collarbones. The flames suddenly jumped up, reflecting the greed and fear that flashed in her eyes.

"But if you go against the will of heaven, you will eventually have to pay the price."

The moment she finished speaking, the clouds rolled like raging waves, and in the distance came the low roar of some giant creature awakening.

She clenched her palms suddenly, and the flame was extinguished, leaving only a wisp of green smoke.

"Even 'He' can't protect you..."

She laughed softly, and her laughter was mixed with a kind of almost desperate sarcasm.

"That ancient being from the end of the world, the overlord of boundless territory and eternal life, even tore apart his own divine nature to reshape your talents... but what was the result?"

She suddenly approached the hazy mist and cruelly exposed the truth that both of them knew well.

"You survived, but this chance of survival became a new curse."

The containers on the crystal tree exploded one after another, and fragments of memory flew around like sharp blades.

The shadow of moonlight distorted in the fragments.

“He is looking for you.”

She took a step back, her voice so soft it was almost gentle, but it caused the entire cloud illusion to begin to collapse.

"Maybe this time... you've finally found a friend who's willing to die for you."

Dilin was silent.

Silence spread among the clouds, as if time had frozen for a moment.

Its silhouette—a broken form pieced together by moonlight and mist—swayed slightly, like a candle in the wind, which could go out at any time.

“He can’t find me.”

Its voice was soft, yet it carried a calmness that was almost like relief.

"That is, Lou...can't find me."

Nan Song saw that the edge of its outline began to slowly disintegrate, peeling off like sand, turning into tiny points of light, floating into nothingness.

"My body has dissipated, and my soul won't exist for long."

It paused, and the fingertips condensed with mist lifted up slightly, as if wanting to touch something, but fell down powerlessly halfway.

"I won't drag Alou down."

"Perhaps, finding you to trade was a wrong decision."

Dilin's voice was suddenly tinged with a faint smile. There was no regret in that smile, only a kind of almost gentle certainty.

"But I don't regret it."

Its body leaned forward slightly, as if staring at Nansong - or rather, staring at Nansong who occupied Arisa's body.

"Because in my heart...you are also my friend."

"My friend, we will meet again."

Nan Song felt a sudden tightness in his chest, as if being gripped by some invisible hand.

"And, in my situation, you actually came to me...trying to save me."

Dilin's voice lowered, as if he was talking to himself.

"You even...don't care about what will happen after you can't find me."

The moonlight and mist completely solidified at this moment.

Nansong saw Dilin—the shadow that was about to disappear—slowly turning towards him.

Then, she felt her pupils suddenly contract.

"You're just being sentimental."

A strange sneer rolled out of her throat, and her voice was so cold that it was almost unfamiliar.

But Nansong was keenly aware that this body - Alisa's body - was shaking uncontrollably.

"Anyway...thank you anyway."

Dilin's voice was so soft that it sounded like a sigh.

"Let me have this opportunity."

The fog rolled in, and its outline became increasingly blurred.

"Alou won't hurt you."

She paused, the last word almost inaudible.

"I won't drag you down either."

"Perhaps, this ending is not bad for me..."

Before he finished speaking, Nansong felt Alisa's body tremble violently.

She half-knelt down, her knuckles pressed tightly against the clouds, and a familiar stream of water suddenly burst out from between her fingers - that was Dilin's power, the talent that once belonged to it.

The moonlight and mist surged violently. Nansong saw Alisa clench her fists suddenly, and a bright star broke free from her palm and shot into the mist that was about to dissipate like an arrow.

"I never accept...things that are given to me without reason."

Alisha's voice was still cold, but Nansong could clearly hear the barely perceptible sob.

The next second, she felt that all the decorations on her body - the jeweled bracelets, the necklace with dark patterns, and even the beads hanging in her hair - all turned into tiny pieces of light dust and disappeared without a trace.
