Chapter 228: Reverse Chaos Ice Tomb (I)

Nan Song looked at it, then looked again, then withdrew his gaze with a calm expression and turned his head to look around.

Continuing to scan the ice house, you can see the cold air seeping in from the walls and condensing into tiny ice crystals in the air.

Even if Bai Di was lighting the stove at this time.

Outside the ice house, the sky seemed to be swallowed by some indescribable monster, scarlet and dark gray intertwined into a chaos, like a torn wound or a rotten corpse.

Occasionally, a distorted human figure sways in the distance, like smoke blown away by the wind, but with a strange sense of solidity.

Bei withdrew his gaze, his fingertips unconsciously stroking the dagger at his waist. The patterns on the scabbard glowed coldly in the dim light.

In the fireplace inside the ice house, the blue flame burned silently, casting a swaying shadow, making his profile half bright and half dark.

Just then, a slight creaking sound came from the door, like the sound of snow being trampled, or like some creature slowly crawling.

Bai Di didn't even turn his head, his voice was very calm and composed: "Are you back?"

Nan Song turned his head and looked towards the door.

Ma Tuan's figure appeared there, with a silver-white mask with gold flowers hanging diagonally on his face, revealing a pale chin and slightly upturned corners of his mouth.

His robes were thick and old, their layers embroidered with patterns of glaciers and ocean waves. The outermost layer of gauze was already worn, revealing the indigo brocade beneath. These supposedly worn garments, layered together, took on an eerie beauty. As Ma Tuan moved, the wave patterns on the hem seemed to truly surge, occasionally flashing with phosphorescence.

The dark embroidery threads glowed with a subtle luster in the firelight, like solidified blood or phosphorescence in the deep sea.

The sound of the wind outside the igloo suddenly became sharp, like countless tiny claws scratching the wall.

Nan Song's pupils shrank slightly, but his expression remained calm.

Ma Tuan raised his hand to straighten the mask slowly and methodically, his fingertips gently stroking the edge of the silver-white and gold-outlined mask, as if he was hiding some emotion.

Outside the house, under the sky that was a mixture of scarlet and dark gray, a low roar could be faintly heard, like some huge monster wriggling in the chaos.

But his expression remained calm, even with a hint of deliberate ease, as if those horrible noises were just an illusion of the wind.

When he saw Nansong, he paused, but still wanted to pretend to the end.

“The view outside is actually quite nice,”

His voice was light, like a joke, but with a subtle hint of apology, like a cold current surging under the ice. He seemed calm on the surface, but inside he was hiding unspeakable guilt.

He stole a glance at Nansong, paused, and then added with a casual air, "Ah, finally we meet again, Nansong—do you want to go and see it too?"

Nan Song didn't answer, but just glanced at him sideways. His eyes were as cold as ice blades, but there was a hint of imperceptible complexity hidden deep inside.

Of course she knew what Ma Tuan was embarrassed about - but it wasn't entirely his fault.

During this period, all of them seemed to be entangled by some invisible shadow. Too many inexplicable things happened, some of which were even beyond the scope of common sense.

Those strange omens, sudden visions, and the changes that quietly occurred in each of them...

No one wanted to say it out loud, but everyone could feel the heavy pressure, like an invisible fog, covering every breath.

She, Bai Di, and Blore all knew it—Ma Tuan was hiding a lot. But it didn't seem like he meant it.

During the six months at the academy, they had run into Ma Tuan more than once standing alone at the end of the corridor, his expression unusually solemn beneath the mask half-covered on his face, his fingers unconsciously stroking the ancient book.

But every time this happened, the new natural archaeology instructor would always appear "coincidentally" -

She was a person with an almost devilish beauty.

Silver-white hair cascaded like an icy waterfall, and a pair of inhuman eyes nestled in his gorgeously radiant face. Deep within his pupils flowed a shimmering, ancient, otherworldly light. He would always approach slowly, a hint of a half-smile curling up the corners of his lips, and softly call out, "Ma Tuan, can you come down?"

Ma Tuan would silently close the book and follow him away, with an indescribable sense of depression revealed in her back.

Nansong and Bai Di had once exchanged glances, each sensing the same doubt in the other's eyes—who exactly was that mentor? And what was Ma Tuan hiding?

But in the end, it came to nothing.

Shaking her head quickly, Nan Song realized that she was thinking too far ahead. The current situation did not allow her to have any wild thoughts.

Nan Song's gaze unconsciously slid towards the shadows on the ice wall. In the flickering firelight, the outlines of the three people were twisted and elongated, like dormant beasts that could pounce and bite at any time.

She tensed her back slightly.

"How's the investigation going?" Bai Di suddenly spoke in a low voice, directly cutting off the strange atmosphere between the two of them.

He leaned against the ice wall with an indifferent expression, as if he didn't care at all about Ma Tuan's subtle guilt or Nan Song's daze.

However, it is true that the most important thing right now is intelligence, not unnecessary emotions.

Ma Tuan sighed, finally dropping his pretentious demeanor. His expression beneath the mask grew serious. He whispered, "It's not good."

Ma Tuan took a deep breath, his voice strained beneath his mask. "The villagers are still communicating in Sklodz. This village is called Irmanos... It's the year AD, and we have no idea where we are. The timeline is completely messed up." He gritted his teeth. "Why that guy Si brought us here? I don't understand."
