Chapter 93: Human-like and non-human and the corner of the world

The rain outside the window was getting heavier, as if foreshadowing that the road ahead was full of unknowns and difficulties. Everyone in the car was lost in thought, pondering how to deal with this complex situation.

From the very beginning, the car started to shake violently for no apparent reason. Although the road was uneven just now, it was not as bad as this.

Everyone clutched the handles or seats tightly, trying to maintain their balance. Despite Nan Song's best efforts, the vehicle still couldn't avoid the bumps and swaying on the road, like a small boat in the wind and waves.

As the rain continued to pour into the train, a giant red mushroom quietly appeared above everyone's heads, hanging from the roof. Its vibrant color was eerie, and its sheer size seemed to engulf the entire train. This mushroom was even larger than any seen before, and the already cramped train compartment suddenly became unbearably crowded.

Before the seven could react, giant red mushrooms suddenly crashed down with a deafening roar. The train car erupted in chaos, with screams and cries echoing from the crowd. In a flash, all the mushrooms vanished, replaced by countless smaller mushrooms, densely packed throughout the space. These mushrooms suddenly sprouted distorted human faces, screaming, roaring, and wailing in agony. Their sounds were piercing and piercing, while they violently slammed against the windows and doors.

Then there was a sudden sound of brakes, bringing everyone back to their senses.

"Oh my God, what happened just now?" Ma Tuan stood up first and shook his head violently.

"Look outside!" Nan Song in front said with some fear.

The entire carriage is now wrapped in a film of water, crystal clear as if it exists in sea water illuminated by sunlight. The water film also separates the broken windows from the outside world. Many creatures, neither human nor ghost, are standing outside, and have surrounded the entire Star Express.

Outside the water film stood a group of creepy creatures. Their entire bodies seemed to be made entirely of hyphae, devoid of any trace of flesh. The pale hyphae intertwined together, forming a creepy outer layer that sent shivers down their spines.

The skeletons of these creatures were clearly visible, their internal structures clearly visible through the thin layer of mycelium. Their bodies were twisted and deformed, with bone spurs protruding from their joints, a terrifying sight. Their faces held a ferocious expression, their hollow eyes revealing endless malice.

Their movements were silent and mysterious, ghostly and unseen. The gentle rustling of their mycelial skin against the ground whispered their terror. As they drew closer, a stench of decay filled the air, making it almost impossible to breathe.

These creatures were undoubtedly deformed products of nature, distorted manifestations of life. Their hands tightly clasped the water film, their deformed faces nearly flattened, yet they refused to let go, their eyes fixed intently on the eight people within.

"I can't drive the car. There are these people outside. I'm scared..." Nan Song was still hesitating whether to turn off the engine.

"Hmph, there are no moral laws to constrain me here. Besides, look at that thing outside, it's not a human being at all. Get up and let me drive." Jiuyizhi immediately jumped up and tried to grab the steering wheel.

Everyone could hear the implicit meaning in his words. Nan Song certainly couldn't agree, so he had to look to Blore for help.

Blore immediately received her call for help, and stood up suddenly to get a bottle of wine, but was held down by Xiankelai and Ma Tuan.

"It's okay, Nansong will be here to chat with you soon. How could these things possibly stop us from moving forward? Blore, don't let me down at this time!" Ma Tuan threatened him viciously.

"That's right. Can you drive? If you can't, this professional matter should be done by professionals. It's useless for you to go. Look outside. What's the difference between this and a zombie siege? Aren't you scared?" Cyclamen also persuaded.

Lu Nanyao sat quietly in the Star Express, not saying a word. Her gaze passed through the window, gazing out at the world outside. A strange look lingered in her eyes, not one of pity or sadness, but one that inexplicably evoked melancholy, as if the entire world had grown gloomy.

Outside the window, fine raindrops intertwined, forming a hazy curtain. Through this curtain, Lu Nanyao saw a series of hideous and distorted faces. These faces seemed to be twisted and deformed by some force, making people shudder. However, Lu Nanyao was not frightened by these terrifying scenes. Instead, her gaze passed over these hideous faces and cast a glance beyond.

The scene was utterly desolate, as if time had stood still. Dilapidated houses lay scattered about, their walls brittle and cracked, their bricks and stones peeling, revealing the vicissitudes of time. Rain poured down from a gloomy sky, soaking the ground but unable to wash away the filth and decay of the land.

The streets were narrow and muddy, piled high with garbage, emitting a sickening stench. The pedestrians on the road looked haggard and indifferent, as if completely numb to everything around them. They hurried past without the slightest intention of stopping. There was no hope, no vitality, only endless despair and loneliness.

A high wall cuts off this place from the outside world, creating a closed world. Covered in moss and vines, the wall appears particularly desolate. It seems like an insurmountable barrier, trapping people in this hopeless corner. Inside, there is a dead silence; outside, she doesn't know what lies beyond. Perhaps a bustling city, perhaps a tranquil place filled with birdsong and flowers, but neither seems to have anything to do with this place. The sky is shrouded in dark clouds, impenetrable and oppressive.
