Chapter 232 Passerby

The night poured down like thick asphalt, immersing the entire forest in eternal darkness.

But at this time, the slight light that seeped out seemed even more strange.

The iron chains—if they could still be called iron chains—were wriggling and coiling in a manner contrary to the nature of metal, and each link was covered with honeycomb-like holes, oozing a sticky black slurry.

Sometimes they strangle ancient trees like giant pythons, and sometimes they twitch and curl up like the fingers of a dying person, making rusty groans in the silence.

The moonlight occasionally penetrates the treetops, illuminating the faint light flowing on the surface of the chains, as if countless half-open sleepy eyes were spying on the creatures that had strayed into this place.

Blore walked on the chain-tangled fallen leaves, his steps slow and silent, as if every step was whispering to the black forest.

His calm gaze swept over the towering black firs. The dewdrops condensed on the bark sparkled in the dim light, like countless tiny eyes watching him.

The weird, the unsettling, the ones that felt like a dream.

The sky gradually brightened, seeping through the gaps in the thick clouds, like a wound torn open by some ancient power.

The clouds hung low and rolled, like the most violent smoke condensation, the edges were dyed a crimson blood red, as if the sky itself was burning.

The light was not warm, but it carried a strange, almost gentle sense of oppression, shrouding the entire forest in a dark red halo.

But his footsteps suddenly stopped, as if nailed to the spot by some invisible force.

His pupils contracted slightly, and his gaze penetrated the thin mist in the forest, locking onto the familiar yet unfamiliar figure - Wu Shanqing.

The person who had inexplicably said those words and done those things to him in Nanbaichasong Town was now standing quietly in the woods, his outline so clear that it was almost unreal.

Blore's breathing quickened unconsciously.

"Why... is it him?"

Does this matter have anything to do with him?

Fragments of memory surged in my mind - Wu Shanqing's eyes with a strange light, the feathers on his cheeks, and the almost weird smile that was always on his lips.

But the misty green mountains before me seemed... different.

There was no suffocating sense of oppression, no twisted malice, and even... like a human being.

Blore's fingers clenched unconsciously, his nails digging into his palms.

Originally, Blore was just surprised - Wushanqing shouldn't appear here, at least it shouldn't stand so abruptly at the end of the forest path, like a pale plant that didn't belong here.

His figure seemed particularly thin under the mottled shadows of the trees, yet inexplicably eye-catching, as if the surrounding scenery was slightly distorted by his presence.

Blore frowned, a trace of confusion rising in his heart.

He didn't dislike Wu Shanqing, nor could he even say that he had any impression of her. Their last encounter was just a strange but harmless episode.

But at this moment, when the other person's calm eyes looked at him, he actually felt a slight discomfort, as if something had gently tickled his heart. It didn't hurt, but it made him inexplicably alert.

But gradually, the confusion turned into vague vigilance.

Why is he here?

Is it a coincidence or intentional?

Blore's fingers unconsciously stroked the corner of his clothes, trying to find more details about this man from his memory, but apart from that vague encounter, he could not grasp anything.

In the end, all the doubts turned into a subtle curiosity, quietly climbing up my heart like a vine.

Wu Shanqing still stood there silently, with a faint smile on the corner of his mouth, as if he was waiting for something.

Blore took a deep breath and stepped forward—he decided to ask questions.

But soon, before he could get over, a person appeared next to Wu Shanqing.

In an instant, Blore's heart suddenly contracted, as if it was tightly entangled by invisible vines.

He subconsciously held his breath, his fingertips unconsciously pinching into his palms - it was indeed his father. He was very familiar with the profile of Brollian's face, and he could recognize it at a glance even through the dust accumulated over the years.

But the smile on his father's lips felt unfamiliar to him. It was a lively expression that was almost as youthful as that of a teenager, something he had never seen in his memory.

His throat felt tight, as if something was stuck there, and he could neither swallow it nor spit it out.

His father's eyes fell softly on Wu Shanqing, a look that Blore had never seen before - not a stern scrutiny, not a tired alienation, but an almost tender concentration, as if he was looking at something precious.

What made him even more suffocated was Wu Shanqing standing next to his father.

Now the monster (he had to use that word) seemed so...human.

The silver-gray hair shone softly in the sunlight, and the lines at the corners of his eyes had not yet transformed into terrifying scales, but rather looked like the fine lines that appeared when an ordinary young man smiled.

They stood shoulder to shoulder in the birch forest, mottled light and shadow dancing on their young bodies, like some forbidden holy icons.

Blore's eyes darted back and forth between the two of them, his chest feeling as if gripped by an invisible hand, each heartbeat bringing a dull ache.

He suddenly realized that he was glimpsing a past he had never known about - a time that his father had never mentioned and that Wu Shanqing might have long forgotten.

The wind rustled through the treetops, like countless tiny whispers.

My father suddenly turned his head, his eyes seemed to penetrate time and space, looking straight in the direction of Blore.

For a moment Blore almost thought he was going to call his own name—

But the next second, the light and shadow were distorted, and the figures of the two people swayed and dissipated like reflections in the water.
