Chapter 66 The Truth Ning Buyi has been absent from work for the past two days…

Ning Buyi has been on leave for the past two days and hasn't come to work, so Zhu Yan and the snacks in the cabinet under her desk haven't even had a chance to be restocked.

The assistant was lost in thought, his head down. He hadn't wanted to come in to report on his work for the past two days, sensing that the president was in a low mood. He could only silently pray that the president's wife would return to her post soon.

The clock in the room ticked away. Zhu Yanhe rested his chin on his hand, tapping the table lightly with his fingertips. His brows were furrowed, and a gloomy look covered his eyelashes. He was indeed somewhat depressed.

It wasn't just because Ning Buyi wasn't by his side; the two were to officially meet the day after tomorrow. He had to ask himself honestly that he wasn't fully prepared. He didn't have a 100% chance of keeping Ning Buyi by his side. This objective fact made Zhu Yanhe frown even more.

The office door was pushed open with a thud, hitting the wall. The person who entered walked towards him hurriedly. Zhu Zhu slammed his hands on the table: "Brother, are you going to that Star Awards?"

Zhu Yanhe lowered his head and fiddled with his pen, giving a lazy reply.

Zhu Zhu was visibly happy: "I'll go for you, bro, I want to go."

The anticipation in her eyes was palpable, and her mind was racing with calculations. Zhu Yanhe raised an eyebrow slightly, his fingertips gently stroking the surface – a subtle gesture he made while thinking.

"Why?"

Just in time to hit her sore spot, Zhu Zhu looked heartbroken and said, "It's all your dad's fault. He's taking Mom out to play tomorrow and insists I come along, saying things like, 'Don't you know how to take pictures?' It's so annoying!"

Zhu Guanghai had been repeatedly humiliated by various parties yesterday, so he decided to go out for a walk to clear his head. As for inviting Zhu Zhu along, he just wanted to take this opportunity to save face. No father would feel good if his child treated him coldly.

Zhu Yanhe raised her head and then lowered it again, continuing to look at the unfinished part of the document, her tone indifferent: "He tied your legs."

"No." Zhu Zhu's eyes were clear. She looked at her legs and it took her a minute to realize what was happening. She ran around the table and came to the table. "Brother, please let me go. I'll keep an eye on your wife for you."

She resorted to her usual tricks, hoping that Zhu Yanhe would still indulge her. Zhu Yanhe glanced at her indifferently. He didn't need Zhu Zhu's help to keep an eye on things, and adding another person wouldn't be difficult.

But Zhu Yanhe was well aware of Zhu Guanghai's purpose in asking Zhu Zhu to go with him. If his father focused on Zhu Zhu, that would be good; at least he wouldn't bother with Ning Buyi anymore.

"The camera you like is back in stock." Zhu Yanhe said in a flat tone, offering his bargaining chip. That camera was Zhu Zhu's dream camera, but because she didn't have enough money and it was always out of stock, she could only look at it.

Upon hearing the news, the girl immediately stood up and saluted. This offer struck a chord with her, so what else was there to say? She would follow her brother's lead.

"I can't go. I have to stay with the elders. I'm leaving now, brother." With that, Zhu Zhu turned and disappeared in a flash. She stopped at the door, turned back and winked at Zhu Yanhe, "Thank you, brother."

Zhu Zhu is as boisterous as a child, making it hard to believe that he was raised under such suffocating education. But upon closer inspection, it is inevitable, just like Ning Buyi, who is born with the courage to love life.

Zhu Yanhe's gaze was fixed on the white doll on the table. Yesterday, he had randomly given the location of a property, and it arrived this morning. He then had it delivered by courier. Because of a false identity, the doll had to go through a lot of trouble, taking a long detour from where he could have easily picked it up in person.

Beside the white teddy bear stood a mountain demon so ugly it was impossible to find a likeness; one was Ning Butuo, and the other was also Ning Butuo.

The spacious clubhouse was located in the city center. Ning Buyi arrived on his electric scooter, wearing a jacket and a hoodie. His hair was casually tossed by the wind. He let go of one hand and pushed down his face shield, then glided to the entrance of the clubhouse. A red carpet was laid out behind the door. Ning Buyi stopped his electric scooter after receiving a call from Jingjing and walked in through the side door.

Pushing open the door to the backstage dressing room, he found a number of people already waiting inside, most of them dressed in suits and tuxedos. He felt somewhat out of place among them. Ning Buyi stood on tiptoe and looked around. Before he could find anyone, Jingjing found him first.

Jingjing quickly pulled him aside, her eyes filled with astonishment and disbelief. She asked, "Why are you dressed like this? You're going to walk the red carpet later."

Ning Buyi had no idea that there were so many requirements to attend this meeting. He clenched his hands around the hem of his clothes, pursed his lips, and didn't know what to do.

Jingjing slapped her forehead; she had almost forgotten that this was Ning Buyi's first time participating, and he had only been a live streamer for a little over two months.

She patted Ning Buyi on the back: "It's okay, there's no requirement to wear it. You look great as you are, so cute."

Hearing this, Ning Buyi breathed a sigh of relief; it was good that it wasn't necessary. The two walked to a sofa in a corner, where Chestnut and Guoguo were sitting looking at their phones. Seeing them arrive, Guoguo waved and said, "Come on over, the red carpet order is set."

He held his phone to text Xiao He, then reached into his pocket to check the velvet box lying quietly inside his coat. He let out a soft breath, his heart pounding in his chest at the thought of seeing Xiao He soon. He was already rehearsing in his mind what to say, wondering if it would be inappropriate to just pull out the ring.

"Oh my, Ningning, you're coming with me? You're quite the planner." Jingjing peeked at her screen and put her arm around the boy's shoulder.

Her gaze shifted downwards, and she inadvertently caught sight of the shimmering silver on Ning Buyi's neck. The design of the chain seemed vaguely familiar to her. "Baby, this necklace of yours..."

The boy looked down at the sound and took out the necklace hidden under his clothes: "What's wrong with this?"

The entire silver necklace was on full display under the light. Jingjing exclaimed softly and nudged Chestnut beside her, "Look, you guys!"

Jingjing saw a video of this longevity lock while scrolling through videos a while ago. She forgot what masterpiece it was, but the necklace was beautiful and immediately caught her eye. The comments were full of praise.

"I wonder which newborn capitalist will carry this on next."

"Switch back to the rural channel. They can't watch such high-class stuff."

"Didn't PDD say I was the luckiest person? How come I wasn't born into his family?"

Jingjing couldn't stop laughing and discussed it in the group chat. As a result, it's now being worn around Ning Buyi's neck. She finds it hard to describe the feeling; it's a bit like her best friend suddenly becoming rich.

Chestnut and Fruit looked over at the sound, their eyes widened, and they exclaimed in unison, "Wow!!"

The noise was so loud that it attracted strange looks from others. Guoguo lowered her voice and took Ning Buyi's hand: "Young Master, when did you become rich?"

Ning Buyi looked bewildered. He didn't understand why a necklace would have such a strong reaction. A necklace worth ten or twenty thousand wouldn't, but one worth a million would. The boy stared at the longevity lock and asked, "What's wrong?"

Jingjing stared intently into his eyes and said, word by word, "Ningning, this necklace of yours is worth one or two million."

The moment his brain successfully processed that sentence, he froze, standing there stunned, his eyes fixed on that silver glint. Zhu Yanhe had told him that the necklace only cost ten or twenty thousand yuan, so why did she buy him something so expensive?

The surrounding noise was shut out. The hand holding the necklace trembled slightly. The necklace still retained the warmth from his skin. At this moment, Ning Buyi's only thought was to return it to Zhu Yanhe.

"Baby, what's wrong?" Jingjing waved her hand in front of his eyes, trying to bring the boy's unfocused pupils back to his senses.

Ning Buyi snapped out of his daze, waved his hand, and forced a smile to maintain his composure. He took out his phone and sent a message to Zhu Yanhe, saying that he couldn't afford the value of the necklace and didn't want it anymore.

As the boy prepared to enter, he kept getting distracted. He wondered if he should take it off first to avoid scratching it, but what if it fell out of his pocket? He didn't even notice the message Xiao He sent him.

Jingjing, dressed in a formal gown, took Ning Buyi's arm and said, "Ningning, don't think about it anymore. If it was a gift from someone else, it means he cares about you. Don't let him down."

Ning Buyi's expression was so transparent that it was easy to guess what was going on. Jingjing guessed that the necklace was probably a gift from his girlfriend, and he thought it was too expensive, hence the worried look on his face.

Ning Buyi nodded obediently and followed her out. A group of people surrounded the red carpet, and there were cameras at both ends. The boy walked carefully with each step, trying hard to forget about it for the time being, but the more he tried to forget, the more he cared. He couldn't help but blame Zhu Yanhe for buying him such an expensive gift and lying to him that it wasn't expensive at all.

I hate Zhu Yanhe!

Sneakers clattered on the red carpet, with Jingjing, dressed in a gown, by his side. The contrast between their outfits made them the most eye-catching couple of the day. As he walked by, he heard several girls' voices. Ning Buyi looked over and saw them with sweet smiles on their faces, calling out his online nickname. The young man couldn't help but grin. It turned out that there really were people who liked him.

This allowed him to put that matter out of his mind. He led Jingjing into the venue, where seats were neatly arranged. Jingjing told him that this was only the first event, and after the awards ceremony, they would go to the next banquet hall. Ning Buyi gave a soft "oh" before seeing Xiaohe's message. A smile appeared on his lips again. Xiaohe also asked him to come to her during the banquet.

Zhu Yanhe sat in the car, quietly looking at the electronic screen in his palm. He clicked his tongue softly, but in the end, he didn't reply to the message "Zhu Yanhe" sent to Ning Buyi.

Intelligent people are often oblivious when it comes to relationships. They don't know the correct solution to this problem, nor what kind of answer can lead to a perfect ending for two people.

The lights in the venue were all focused on the stage, and the room was already full of people, including anchors from various fields, whose voices filled the entire venue.

Ning Buyi braced his hands on the chair, his toes lightly touching the ground. He would occasionally take out the ring from his pocket to look at it and then put it back. He stared anxiously at the host on the stage, wondering why his mouth was opening and closing so quickly, and why the people going up to receive awards couldn't walk faster.

The hall was well-heated. Ning Buyi hung his head, lost in thought. Jingjing whispered to Chestnut beside him, "Wait a minute, isn't this newcomer award supposed to be Ningning's?"

-----------------------

Author's Note: Zhu Yanhe and Ning Buyi had a fight because Ning Buyi didn't want to go to the dentist. Zhu Yanhe had taken him once before, and he never wanted to go again. That night, as usual, Zhu Yanhe wanted to hold Ning Buyi in his arms while they slept. Ning Buyi grabbed his blanket and headed to the bathroom. When Zhu Yanhe followed, he found Ning Buyi sleeping in the bathtub. Zhu Yanhe could only laugh and promise not to go see him. Ning Buyi slipped into bed within three seconds. Zhu Yanhe slowly walked out with his blanket and asked him why he slept in the bathtub instead of in the next bedroom. Ning Buyi yawned and grinned mischievously, "That way you'll feel sorry for me." Zhu Yanhe was angry that he didn't take care of his body and pinned him to his lap, spanking him.
