Chapter 17 A damp rain Ning Buyi replied: "It's just..."
Ning Buyi replied, "I just want to buy a house."
His expression was completely expressionless, so Li Chang gave up. This guy really seemed to want to buy a house.
Li Chang gave a few more instructions, telling the man not to kiss or hug him, and then left.
He was alone in the ward all morning. During that time, a nurse came in to check on him. He felt like his butt was going to be stuck in bed like this, and he couldn't even turn over!
He can only move one hand and one leg, and he can't even start a live stream... He feels sad when he thinks about the money he's lost during this time.
A phone vibrated beside him; it was a WeChat message from Pei Qing.
Pei Qing: How did you end up in the hospital?
Ning Buyi: He was hit by a car.
Pei Qing: I remember you're also in S City, right? Where are you? Shall I come and see you?
Ning Buyi was wondering what he was here for; he wasn't a doctor who could cure his illness.
Pei Qing: [Transfer] Have some nourishing food.
Ning Buyi: [address].
Who says it's not a doctor's job? Money can cure all diseases.
The clock on the wall ticked to twelve o'clock. It was lunchtime, but Zhu Yanhe hadn't arrived yet. He hadn't brought her breakfast. Had he run away?
The moment the boy thought this, the hospital room door was pushed open.
The man was wearing a trench coat, had his hair styled in a neat slicked-back manner, and was carrying a thermal lunchbox that seemed out of place with his appearance.
He strode confidently to the hospital bedside, opened the lunchbox and pulled out chopsticks in one swift motion. Inside the lunchbox were not only sweet and sour pork ribs, but also king crab and pieces of what appeared to be foie gras.
He's still a good person, hehe.
The boy took out his phone and took a picture as usual.
"Thank you, thank you." Ning Buyi picked up a crab leg with his left hand and sucked on it; it was fresh, tender, and smooth.
It tastes so good, he wants to try the foie gras next to it even more.
Ning Buyi couldn't use chopsticks with his left hand, so he picked up a spoon, scooped up a piece, and stuffed it into his mouth. After chewing for a couple of bites, he found it so unpalatable that he wanted to spit it out, but he forced himself to swallow it and quickly shoveled a couple of mouthfuls of rice into his mouth to wash it.
When Zhu Yanhe came in, he saw him sitting on the bed waiting for him to feed him, looking very cute. No one would have thought that if he didn't do what he wanted, he would secretly do something naughty.
Ning Buyi's face is full of expressions even when he's eating. He couldn't help but smile. Zhu Yanhe now understands why his friends like to keep pets.
Foie gras was still too much of a challenge for Ning Buyi's stomach. He pushed the foie gras aside, picked up the sweet and sour pork ribs on the very edge, stared at them blankly for a while, thought for a moment, and then put them in his mouth. The fresh meat landed, and the aroma burst in his mouth.
Seeing his hesitant expression, Zhu Yanhe assumed he didn't want to eat anymore.
Ning Buyi was in a daze for a while. The taste in his memory had become as faint as the snow in the south. All he could remember was that one heavy snowfall.
The ribs didn't taste like he remembered; they weren't very sour, nor did they have that strange, rotten smell.
For some reason, the next bite of rice tasted salty and bitter.
Zhu Yanhe saw it; a drop of water fell onto a grain of rice and was chewed into his mouth along the spoon.
One drop, two drops, streaming down my cheeks.
Soaked in meat, soaked in rice.
Ning Buyi ate one piece, then two pieces, his mouth filled with the delicious meat.
He wasn't just chewing on the meat, but also on his own self-deception from beginning to end; only by chewing it up could he see the truth.
Those were just spoiled ribs, not sweet and sour ribs.
Zhu Yanhe watched quietly, unsure of what to do. At least Ning Buyi's tears weren't because the food was too delicious; perhaps giving him peace now was the right choice.
The ticking of time fell silent, their breaths mingling. Ning Buyi chewed silently, tears mixing with the rice as he put it into his mouth.
Tears welled up on his face, his eyes were red, and he sniffed, "Thank you."
"Thank me for what?" Zhu Yanhe continued to hold the lunchbox for him.
Ning Buyi raised his head, blinked, and answered irrelevantly, "Would you like to hear a story?"
He wanted to say something he had never told anyone before: the kind stranger in front of him seemed just right.
The man remained noncommittal, gesturing for him to continue, as he hadn't seen the boy like this in almost half a month.
"A long, long time ago, a child came home from school and found a plate of pork ribs on the table. It turned out that his mother had made it."
Does starting with a classic fairy tale bring happiness?
Ning Buyi spoke haltingly, his voice growing increasingly choked with emotion.
"Because it was the first time his mother cooked for him, he quickly climbed onto the table, grabbed the food with his hands, and stuffed it into his mouth. It tasted very sour and had a smelly odor. He wanted to ask his mother why, but his mother had already abandoned him, and he was all alone in the big house."
She never liked him, and giving birth to Ning Buyi was out of necessity. She never had any feelings for the child, so Ning Buyi was always taken care of by the neighbor's grandmother since he could remember.
His mother didn't care about him, only gave him a place to live, and always said he was a debt collector and wished he would die, so she abandoned Ning Buyi and left.
The poor little boy stuffed spoiled ribs into his mouth, swallowing them even though he felt nauseous, thinking that his mother had finally accepted him as her son.
Ning Buyi was only 10 years old at that time.
After they finished speaking, they fell silent again, as if a dark cloud had drifted in and rained down on their hearts, enveloping their beating hearts.
Zhu Yanhe roughly knew that his relationship with his parents was not good, but he did not expect it to be this bad.
He asked, "Where is the child's father?"
Ning Buyi poked at the foie gras that he didn't like: "That's a story for next time, I don't want to talk about it anymore."
He has said everything he wanted to say.
Zhu Yanhe put down his lunchbox and reached for a tissue. He couldn't quite explain it; perhaps it was out of pity for him.
The man inexplicably cupped the boy's face in his hands, and gently wiped away the tear stains from the corner of his eyes and cheeks with his other hand.
"Want some more?"
Ning Buyi looked at the leftover food in the lunchbox; he had already finished eating the rice.
"The foie gras was terrible, but the king crab was delicious."
Zhu Yanhe glanced at him, who seemed carefree again.
He suddenly realized that Ning Buyi had his own protection mechanism, and it was fine for him to be so naive.
The boy's eyelashes fluttered: "Can I still eat this tomorrow?"
That's wishful thinking.
"You don't think I'll bring it to you just because you think that will work, do you?" Zhu Yanhe hit the nail on the head, completely unmoved by the bait.
So Ning Buyi picked up his phone and frantically sent emojis to Zhu Yanhe, thanks to which the man's phone kept vibrating in his pocket.
Whoever pities Ning Ning and doesn't move is a dog.
Zhu Yanhe pulled out his phone and silenced it, thus neutralizing Ning Buyi's magical attack.
Having run out of options, the boy decisively lay down and pretended to be dead.
The man glanced at the time and left; after all, he wasn't like Ning Buyi, who could lie in bed doing nothing.
In the afternoon, the westward-moving autumn sun shone on a bunch of flowers in the open space by the window, the water droplets reflecting the dazzling light. The flowers were brought by Pei Qing.
He also carried a basket of fruit. It was the first time Ning Buyi had met him. He was wearing a hoodie with an incomprehensible brand and wide-leg jeans. Underneath his light gray, slightly parted hair were sharp eyebrows and eyes, but now his sharpness had been replaced by a smile.
"Hi, I'm Pei Qing."
Hello, hello.
Ning Buyi nodded rhythmically, like a rattle-drum. He wanted to ask why they came to see him, but he swallowed the question back. He decided it was better not to ask so many questions, lest he end up like that man.
Pei Qing sat by his hospital bedside, holding an apple. The knife tip sliced across the peel, revealing plump flesh. He asked:
Are you usually alone?
"No, someone is taking care of me."
The boy shook his head. Zhu Yanhe would bring him food, and Li Chang said he would come over every day to keep him entertained.
“I was saying that if no one else could take care of you, I would come.”
When Pei Qing smiles, her canine teeth are visible, and she exudes a youthful and vibrant aura.
Ning Buyi said "Oh" and then said, "Thank you, thank you, someone is taking care of me."
Pei Qing peeled a whole apple, cut off a piece, and held it to the boy's mouth. Ning Buyi opened his lips, took a bite from the tip of the knife, and found it sweet.
Aren't you curious why I'm so good to you?
Pei Qing handed him another piece.
"Why?"
Ning Buyi continued chewing; he wanted to know too.
"Because I like you."
The boy opposite him had his eyebrows curved and his legs crossed, as if he were joking.
Ning Buyi straightened up, his face serious: "Did you do nothing but think about me all day yesterday?"
"No, but what does it matter?" Pei Qing was a little confused. Who would do nothing all day but think about others?
"Then you don't like me." Ning Buyi concluded that saving an ignorant teenager made him a great person.
Pei Qing stopped wielding his knife. He had originally thought this pretty idiot would be easy to get his hands on, since he would believe whatever he was told. But he hadn't expected her to have her own bizarre logic.
He put down the knife, suddenly grabbed Ning Buyi's arm, and gradually moved closer, as if he wanted to kiss him. Ning Buyi couldn't move at all.
Two sentences echoed in Ning Buyi's mind.
"If you dare agree, you're dead."
"If you dare kiss me, I'll break your legs when you get back!"
He doesn't want to lose his leg or die!
"Wait, wait, wait..." Ning Buyi's mouth trembled with anxiety.
Pei Qing pretended not to hear and continued to approach.
The young man steeled himself and looked up first.
For a moment, Pei Qing thought he had accepted the kiss and was about to kiss him, but unexpectedly, he felt a sharp pain on his cheek. When the boy released his mouth, there were two rows of deep teeth marks on his face, indicating that the force was quite strong.
Pei Qing: ...A dog?
"Who gave you permission to kiss me!"
Didn't you say you were just coming to see him? How can you be so lacking in boundaries?
Ning Buyi was like a cat with its fur standing on end; thank goodness, he almost died.
He pointed with his movable left hand, and his words seemed to be coming out faster and faster.
"I already told you to wait, wait, wait! You still wanted to kiss me? You deserve it!"
"You pervert! Even though you give me money to eat good food, you're still a bad person."
"I hate you, get out of here, and don't come to see me."
Ning Buyi had already restrained himself from cursing; if he hadn't been paid, he would have definitely started cursing the family genealogy.
Seeing this, Pei Qing quickly apologized: "I was wrong, I was wrong, it was my fault. I just wanted to prove to you that I like you."
He looked very aggrieved, and he liked the baby's face, but he was also disappointed that he hadn't been able to take advantage of the baby.
Ning Buyi took out her phone and moved closer to the bed, hoping to get away from him, since Pei Qing's face clearly showed he had ulterior motives.
He opened the WeChat account of the stranger who had taken care of him, because Zhu Yanhe had told him to contact him again if he needed anything.
Ning Buyi sent a bunch of emojis as usual to greet him, and only then did he get to the point.
Ning Buyi: Save me, save me.
A note from the author:
----------------------
For Ning Buyi, family ties were like a damp rain; whether he was soaked or not, it was painful. As for Zhu Yanhe, part of his pity for Ning Buyi stemmed from their similar experiences; he felt the two would embrace in the dead of night like small animals licking each other's wounds. Please add this to your favorites, my wives! [Pity]
