Chapter 101 The Woman Possessed by a Ghost

The corn in the field grew very quickly. In just over a month, it had grown taller than a person. When Lin Wanyue walked into the cornfield, she had to look up to see the plump, green corn buds.

Lin Wanyue wiped the drool from the corner of her mouth, and then quickly realized that she was really too short.

Even on tiptoe, you can't reach the shortest corn cob.

"..." Lin Wanyue pouted and frowned.

She pulled a small hoe from her spatial storage and, imitating how Liu Junlan and the others worked, bent over and diligently dug down a thick corn stalk.

Hearing the commotion, Lin Diaodiao hopped over and skillfully climbed onto Lin Wanyue's shoulder. With a leap, it jumped onto the corn and started nibbling at it.

A plump, large ear of corn fell down and landed on the ground.

It was even faster than Lin Wanyue could dig with a small hoe.

Lin Wanyue angrily sat down on the ground.

That's infuriating.

Even though Lin Diaodiao was younger than her, she picked corn much faster.

Seeing that her brothers could all help their grandmother, she couldn't do anything at all.

She was angry for only a moment, but the scorching sunlight shone on Lin Wanyue's fair face, and she couldn't be bothered to stay angry. Holding the corn that Lin Diaodiao had bitten off in one hand and the corn stalks she had dug up in the other, she went home.

As I passed by the pond, I saw several children fishing for shrimp with homemade bamboo poles.

Shrimp are very clumsy animals. You only need to catch insects in the grass, tie them with hemp rope, throw them into the pond, and let them move around a little. One by one, they will use their pincers to grab the hemp rope and be dragged out.

It won't be long before you catch a whole bunch.

Lin Wanyue found it interesting, put the corn in her own kitchen, and quickly followed.

"Wanwan, here, I'll teach you how to play." Several children in the village had already become familiar with her and even helped her make a bamboo pole.

"Howl~"

Lin Wanyue imitated them, gently shaking the bamboo pole with her hand. The insects tied to the end of the hemp rope seemed to come alive, and soon several blind shrimp were caught on it.

"I caught one too!" Lin Wanyue couldn't help but laugh happily.

Suddenly, a gentle breeze swept by, and Lin Wanyue felt a chill.

This was in the sweltering heat of late August; even the wind by the pond couldn't possibly carry such a chilly atmosphere.

Lin Wanyue quickly suppressed her smile, afraid that the shrimp she had just caught would fall back into the water. She quickly reeled in the bamboo pole, took the shrimp off the pole, and then turned around to look.

Then a disheveled middle-aged woman staggered over.

The other children were still enthusiastically fishing for shrimp and hadn't noticed the woman at all.

Lin Wanyue noticed it, but didn't recognize who it was.

Perhaps... this person isn't from their village?

As the woman drew closer, Lin Wanyue noticed that the shadow on this person was faint, and it was shrouded in a blurry gray shadow, a particularly menacing gray.

It's malevolent energy!

How could a living person possess ghostly energy?

The most likely explanation is that this woman is possessed by a ghost...

Possessed by a ghost!

Lin Wanyue felt a chill run down her spine.

Ponds and riverbanks are dangerous places to begin with, and the arrival of such a woman makes it hard not to suspect the evil spirit's intentions.

"Don't fish yet!" Lin Wanyue quickly reacted, saying to her friends, "You guys should go home right now."

"Hmm?" The children were clearly reluctant to part with it. "But... there are still so many shrimp!"

Fishing for shrimp is easy, but there's often not much shrimp meat; instead, the shell makes up the majority of the catch.

Adults are unwilling to waste time on these small shrimp, but children, who are always playing, don't see it as a waste of time. Besides, shrimp meat is delicious, fresh and sweet. Whether it's cooked in soup with wild vegetables or simply steamed, adding a little salt is enough to make it a tasty dish.

"Yeah, what's wrong with Wanwan?" The other friends, not understanding, also looked over.

"Because there is..."

Just as Lin Wanyue was about to explain, she heard Wang Hu step forward and say, "My mother said that Wanwan is very capable, and what she said must be true. If she tells us to go back, then let's go back! Don't ask so many questions!"

Wang Hu is already the oldest among these children.

Because children his age are usually already working in the fields with their parents, and can be considered as part of the workforce.

However, Wang Hu's parents, Wang Dazhu and Zhao Chunniang, cherished him like the apple of their eye and were reluctant to let him work in the fields.

When the tiger is away, the monkey reigns supreme.

Wang Hu was tall and strong, and the oldest among the children. Although the others didn't understand, they nodded in agreement. Indeed, Lin Wanyue was quite famous in the village now, and even the village head had to listen to her.

So, since Wanwan wants them to go back, then they should go back!

So everyone took the shrimp they had caught, put them in their baskets, and hurried home.

The woman possessed by the ghost had already seen the children and was walking towards them with a face full of resentment and eyes gleaming.

However, because she was in a daze, she was not walking fast and was stumbling. In addition, she was pale and thin, like a zombie, and was muttering to herself.

"It's all your fault, it's all your fault... It's your fault, you deserve to die..." the woman muttered, her voice low and hoarse, as if a ghostly hand was reaching out from her throat to claim her life.
