Lin Weiming instantly became the backbone of all the men in the village.
The men gripped their weapons tightly, their eyes fixed not only on the four bandits but also on the oxcart beneath them…
These four people don't seem to have any intention of robbing the village at all.
Although they were carrying knives, their expressions remained calm. They even smiled and greeted other villagers, saying, "You must be Uncle Si! Hello, Uncle."
"???" The man addressed as Fourth Master looked bewildered.
"No..." He scratched his head involuntarily, "Why don't I remember knowing any of these people?"
"Don't let your guard down! Look, their knives are still dripping blood; they must have killed someone before." The others quickly patted the old man on the shoulder.
"Halt!" Lin Weiming, knife in hand, faced the four bandits and said coldly, "Who are you? What are you doing in our village?"
Unexpectedly, the four bandits showed a look of wild joy when they saw Lin Weiming: "Oh, big brother, you're my brother-in-law! Don't worry, as long as we marry Xiaofen, we'll be family. We're just trying to bring Xiaofen home, aren't we?"
Little Pink?
Lin Weiming's lips twitched slightly.
Isn't this the name of the female ghost enshrined on the memorial tablet in my family's dining hall?
Could it be the work of a female ghost?
Lin Weiming looked around, but couldn't figure it out.
Normally, if they want to see traces of ghosts, they need to light some incense.
But now there's no spiritual fragrance at the village entrance, so Lin Weiming naturally can't see the little pink butterfly sitting on the oxcart.
The other villagers couldn't see any great beauty; they only saw these four bandits who had walked right into their trap.
"Oh, I see? But even though you said it, if you want to see my old man, we still need to lock you up first, otherwise who knows if you'll be in danger?" Lin Weiming narrowed his eyes and said, playing along with the plan.
"Brother-in-law, is that really necessary? We certainly wouldn't hurt our own family." The clever, thin, dark-skinned man still tried to resist.
But the other three bandits, eager to marry into this wealthy family and marry the beautiful and rich young lady, didn't care about anything else. They quickly dropped their weapons, grinning and saying, "Of course, of course. We're just not familiar with each other yet. Once we get to know each other, you'll see I'm the easiest person to talk to!"
Seeing that everyone else had already discarded their weapons, the dark-skinned, thin man also had his own little scheme.
He turned back to look at the beautiful young lady. She was very affectionate, and her eyes were as deep and gentle as a lake.
The dark-skinned, thin man couldn't bear to part with such a beautiful and wealthy young lady, so he had no choice but to drop his weapon, just like the others.
"Go," Lin Weiming immediately waved to the others, "Tie them up first."
"Big brother, brother-in-law. Aren't we family? Why are you tied up? Brother-in-law! Little Pink, please say something!" The bandits, bound hand and foot, sensed something was amiss and tried to plead with the gentle and affectionate young lady.
But when they turned around, they found that the young lady waiting in the carriage had vanished.
"What...what's going on?" the bandit leader shouted.
The others also suddenly came to their senses.
They then realized that they were not at the gate of a wealthy family's mansion at all, but simply at the entrance of an ordinary little village.
The group of people in front of them were not wealthy young masters dressed in fine silks and satins, but just a group of farmers who were about the same age as them.
Without lifting a finger, the four bandits were imprisoned in the Lin family's old house, where they kept company with the three dwarf brothers.
The three of them, including the short man, had been starving for a long time. They were fed a small amount of dry food in the morning, which barely kept them from starving to death, but the three of them were already on the verge of death.
They didn't say anything, but just listening to the four new bandits yelling and shouting, they pieced together a startling truth.
This village doesn't look any different from other places.
But... this village is definitely haunted!
They also encountered the same terrifying and bizarre events that day, but compared to these four people, it's hard to say who suffered more.
The three short men exchanged glances and wisely chose to remain silent, ignoring the four newcomers.
They had a strange feeling that perhaps in a few days, even more bandits would be imprisoned here.
This village is really strange!
...
The bandits have been captured.
But the cow they brought back and the things on the cart were innocent.
The villagers looked at the cartload of goods and were caught in a dilemma.
"What are we going to do with all this stuff? Are we going to send it back to them?" The villagers looked at each other, feeling really reluctant to part with it.
They weren't saints; they were all toiling in the fields, and they always tried to make the most of every single copper coin.
Seeing so much good stuff at this moment—food and clean clothes—it would be a lie to say you weren't tempted.
But staying is something I can't quite bring myself to say.
After all, these things were stolen by bandits from other villages that were similar to theirs.
Ultimately, Lin Weiming and the village head made the decision after discussing it.
Keep the items for now. If someone comes looking for them, return them. If no one comes looking for them, then divide them up next spring.
