Chapter 13: Third and Fourth Brothers Are Still Easier to Foole

Lin Wanyue nodded, still feeling somewhat sad.

"It's alright, look how fast my third brother and I can write! We'll definitely become scholars in the future and make a lot of money copying books," Lin Ziqiu said with a grin.

How could someone who copies books possibly make a lot of money?

But for the two five-year-old kids in Ning'an Village, this was probably the easiest way to make money that they could imagine.

Lin Wanyue was still amused by his words.

Seeing their little sister, whose face was all scrunched up, finally smile, the two brothers smiled even more happily.

"Little sister, after we finish writing, we'll take you to the river to catch some little loaches to eat!" Lin Zihan winked.

"loach?"

Lin Wanyue tilted her head. She remembered that her parents had said that there was no water in the river and the crops in the fields could not be irrigated. It seemed that this year would be another year of no harvest.

How come there are still loaches?

"Don't worry, little sister, we'll finish writing in a bit!" Lin Ziqiu chuckled along.

Perhaps due to increased competition between the twins, they do write very quickly, though their handwriting is somewhat too elegant.

Lin Zihan and Lin Ziqiu chattered for a while, and when they saw that their father and grandmother were not home, they immediately dropped the reed sticks.

"Sister, let's go to the river together!"

The two brothers, one carrying a net and the other a fish basket, took Lin Wanyue and, with their trousers rolled up, went to the riverbank.

My parents were right; the riverbed had dried up.

However, probably because of the rain a couple of days ago, the mud in the middle of the riverbed has been softened.

Beneath the soft soil and crevices of the rocks, there were indeed some small loaches and crabs about the size of a fingernail.

Lin Ziqiu was so excited that he roared and pounced on it to grab it.

He and his third brother, Lin Zihan, divided the work: one of them was responsible for turning over the stones, while the other used a small net to take the things out and put them into the basket.

"Hey, there's some here!" Lin Wanyue followed behind, her sharp eyes pointing at the little crabs and loaches trying to escape.

Women working in the fields on both sides of the river couldn't help but peek over when they heard such a childish voice.

"Hey, aren't these the twins from Sister Liu's family? That little girl... could she be the little money-loser she picked up?" a woman nudged her companion and said.

The women working stood some distance apart, but they spoke quite loudly, showing no regard for Lin Wanyue and the others who were catching shrimp.
