Chapter 8 Your sister is so cute, can I touch her?

When she was young, she traveled all over the country with her husband and gained considerable experience.

Xuefu quickly took out the eggs and fruits that she had put away.

Those fruits were indeed not the kind commonly seen in the village; they were large, red, and looked very tempting. Even the eggs were cleaner and better looking than those laid by their chickens.

Xuefu's idea was not surprising.

Liu Junlan did not blame her daughter-in-law. After carefully examining the item, she said, "This doesn't seem like something we would have in our village. It seems like something only wealthy families in the city could afford... Could it be that they left it behind during their picnic and didn't notice it?"

Lin Wanyue felt silently ashamed.

In later generations, these things are really not worth much.

Eggs, in particular, are affordable and a good source of nutrition for ordinary families.

But hearing Liu Junlan and Xue Fu say the same thing, she had to rack her brains to figure out how to persuade them to accept these things.

"That's what I thought too, which is why I didn't dare to use it." Xuefu nodded.

“Xuefu, you’re very thoughtful, but I don’t think it’s a big deal if we use this stuff. Those wealthy families wouldn’t remember such a small amount of food. Even if they asked, no one would know that we picked it up, and it’s safe to eat.” Liu Junlan said, taking the fruit from the basket and distributing it to the five children.

"Mom, I want to eat too." Lin Weiming, who was shoveling food into his mouth, reached out his hand.

Liu Junlan rolled her eyes: "You have the nerve to steal food from your son and daughter! How old are you?"

Even so, Liu Junlan still picked out a large one for him and Xuefu each.

Lin Weiming wasn't angry when he was scolded. He watched longingly as his mother took a fruit to eat, and then he ate the big black plum in his hand with peace of mind.

While munching on his food, he glanced at the smiling Lin Wanyue, pondering to himself.

"Okay, I'll go fry the eggs then," Xuefu said with a smile.

Mother is right. Once it's in your stomach, it's safe. Who would know that the three children picked things up from the mountain?

Without any evidence, no one can falsely accuse them!

Lin Wanyue immediately chuckled: "Girls, eat! Parents and grandma will eat too!"

Liu Junlan teased her with a smile, "Does Wanwan want some?"

"Eat!" Lin Wanyue nodded without hesitation, afraid that she would miss out on her share.

His adorable and nervous expression made the whole family burst into laughter.

The family enjoyed a delicious meal of eggs, especially Lin Wanyue, whose belly was so full that she slumped on the table. But thinking of the ghostly figure she had encountered in the back mountain that afternoon, she hesitated for a moment before going to the door to check the cracks in it.

He stuck the little talisman he had secretly written in the outhouse under the door crack.

Just as she finished pasting it, Lin Weiming came over, squatted down next to her, and looked at it with her from left to right, but they couldn't figure it out.

"What are you doing, Wanwan? Our village head is in charge, no one dares to cause trouble, don't be afraid." Lin Weiming thought the child was just timid and specially comforted her.

Lin Wanyue: "..."

Humans might not dare to cause trouble, but ghosts might!

Lin Wanyue herself wasn't worried, but she was afraid of attracting the attention of the Lin family.

But her grandmother, parents, and brothers were all good people. She had heard from the old Taoist priests in the temples that good people have three flames on their bodies, and ordinary ghosts dare not approach them easily. In addition, she had already put up the small talisman, so she should be fine.

With that thought in mind, Lin Wanyue returned to her room with a full stomach.

Perhaps because she had climbed the mountain during the day and was too tired, Lin Wanyue lay sprawled out next to Liu Junlan and soon began to snore, sleeping soundly.

...

When Lin Wanyue woke up the next day, she found that her grandmother had already taken her eldest brother, second brother, and father to work in the fields.

Xuefu was busy with sewing and mending and working in the vegetable garden, so she didn't have time to take care of her. She asked Lin Zihan and Lin Ziqiu to take their younger sister home and practice calligraphy.

The two were too ashamed to admit that their handwriting was worse than Lin Wanyue's.

Therefore, the two of them had already practiced their calligraphy for a while before Lin Wanyue even got up.

"Little sister, after we finish practicing calligraphy, shall we take you to play at the edge of the village? There's mud and bamboo there, it's so much fun!" Lin Zihan said to Lin Wanyue, quickly gesturing on the ground while holding a reed stick.

Lin Ziqiu wasn't as fast as his brother, so he quickly wrote on the ground.

Seeing how hard the two five-year-old kids were working, Lin Wanyue felt a little ashamed.

Holding the bowl of brown sugar and egg soup her mother had cooked for her before leaving, she nodded obediently.

At the entrance of Ning'an Village stands a large bamboo grove, yielding fresh bamboo shoots in spring and providing shade in summer. Near the small lotus pond, even the mud is more moist and finer than elsewhere, making it a favorite spot for the village's children.

It was already quite late when Lin Ziqiu and Lin Zihan finished practicing their calligraphy; the little kids around their age had already been playing there for a while.

But when they came, they held their heads high, leading a little girl in a pink embroidered dress by the hand. The little girl had her hair styled in two buns, with two small pink silk flowers tied in the middle, and a yellow cloth stamen in the center. Her small face had a slightly pointed chin, but her eyes were big and bright, making her very cute and pretty.

"Lin Zihan, is this the little sister your grandma picked up? Your little sister is so pretty." The little boy who was playing in the mud stared at Lin Wanyue without blinking when he saw her, then sniffled, but soon the snot started flowing again.
