None of the men from the neighboring village who went hunting in the mountains have returned.
After thinking it over carefully, the people of Ning'an Village realized that it was indeed true!
Their journey to hunt in the Western Hills would inevitably involve passing through Ning'an Village.
But when the villagers recalled it, they only remembered drinking a lot of water in the village and taking a bath in the river on the day they went there, but they didn't remember anyone coming back.
The women, their eyes red with tears, finally came to the men's homes.
"This...this...I'm afraid there's too much prey on the mountain, and they're reluctant to come down?" said the Ning'an Village auntie, who was being pulled by one of the women.
Even Lin Wanyue, who wasn't present at the time, had some idea of what was going on.
Since the people of Ning'an Village had already warned them of the dangers on the mountain, they still insisted on going anyway, and they never returned. I'm afraid their fate is probably grim...
But the aunties in Ning'an Village couldn't bear to tell these women, whose faces were full of sorrow, such cruel words.
"Waaah..." The women seemed to be comforted for a moment, but then they cried again, "But what will happen to the crops in the fields if they don't come back?"
The aunties also looked troubled and could only say, "Maybe they'll know to come back in a couple of days. If they pass by our area, we'll keep an eye on them for you."
“We…still want to go up the mountain to look for it,” the women said, shaking their heads.
As she spoke, tears streamed down her face again.
Now that they had learned that their husbands, or their brothers and children, were indeed passing through this area on their way to hunt in the western mountains, they knew the direction and were no longer willing to sit and wait for their doom, so they decided to go up the mountain to search for them.
The people of Ning'an Village wanted to dissuade them, but they simply couldn't persuade them otherwise.
Putting aside the possibility of bandits, the wild animals in the mountains are not something a few women can handle!
Those men who could go hunting in the mountains were the pillars of their families. Their sudden disappearance was like the sky falling for these women; they were determined to go up the mountain to find them no matter what.
Lin Wanyue watched the backs of the other women, who were also dressed in tattered clothes, heading up the mountain. With Lin Diao Diao on her head and a willow branch in her hand, she ran home.
"Laifu, why don't you go up the mountain with them and look for them? You can also check if there are any bad guys around here." Lin Wanyue was also a little worried.
"Alright!" Laifu got a bag of Black Rabbit milk candy and ran over in a flash.
He was much faster than those women, and in a flash, he flew to the western mountain.
Xishan is just a name given by the people of Ning'an Village, but it is actually several continuous mountain peaks. The area is quite large, and it is precisely because of this that it is able to support so many prey and wild beasts.
Laifu circled all the peaks of Xishan Mountain and saw quite a few small animals such as rabbits and squirrels, as well as a few yellow wolves.
However, he did not find the hunters, nor did he see their bodies, and he saw even less of the bandits.
Laifu waited until it got dark, and the women had no choice but to turn back. He watched them go home, and then Laifu ran back to the Lin family.
"How is it?" Lin Wanyue asked.
“I’ve searched the area within a fifty-mile radius, but I didn’t see any bandits. I did encounter several wild animals though,” Lai Fu confessed honestly.
Since the bandits hadn't come here yet, Lin Wanyue felt much more at ease.
"You didn't see any of those people either?" Lin Wanyue asked Laifu.
Since they went up the mountain, it's impossible for them to disappear without a trace, either alive or dead.
"No," Laifu shook his head again.
Although he couldn't be sure if those people had died on the mountain, he hadn't seen any signs of their activity.
"That's strange..." Lin Wanyue scratched her cheek.
…
Before we knew it, it was time to move.
The old house and the new house are both in the same village, and they are not far apart, so it is convenient to move things.
Besides some commonly used pots, pans, and bedding, there wasn't much else to move.
Lin Zhongyuan held four memorial tablets in his hands, intending to place them on the altar in the meditation room.
"I don't want to be around this chain smoker, he stinks to death!" Little Pink Butterfly said unhappily, frowning.
"Tch!" Master Cui retorted, not to be outdone: "Do you think I would willingly associate with a woman like you? It's an insult to our family and to the teachings of our sages."
Lin Zhongyuan hadn't lit any incense yet, nor could he hear the subtle power struggle between the two ghosts. He only felt a sudden gust of wind around him, the wind whipping his clothes, causing him to sneeze violently.
"Achoo!"
Lin Zhongyuan rubbed his nose and placed the memorial tablet on the incense table.
But suddenly, it was as if Master Cui's memorial tablet had been kicked, and it landed on Lin Zhongyuan.
"???"
Lin Zhongyuan was surprised to learn what was going on.
Then, Little Pink Butterfly's memorial tablet was knocked over with a 'bang'.
"You, you, you... how dare you knock over my memorial tablet!" Little Pink Butterfly reached out and a gleaming axe flew in from outside.
"What do you want to do?!" Master Cui shuddered in fright, but then he realized that he had no physical body and the axe could not hurt him. He then began to worry about his good student, Lin Zhongyuan.
Lin Zhongyuan: (°Д°)
Is the ghost in the house gone mad?
Fearing he would be caught in the crossfire, Laifu quickly retrieved his own memorial tablet. Seeing that the Lin family patriarch was also nearby, he retrieved it as well and placed it on the crossbeam.
He sat on it himself, watching Little Pink Butterfly and Master Cui fight with great enthusiasm, while a chilling wind blew.
