In the blink of an eye, Xie Xin has been in power as the regent princess for five years.
Because of the groundwork laid earlier, she did not encounter much difficulty in either taking power or establishing Xie Yulan as the crown prince.
What bothers Xie Xin the most is that in these five years, neither Yun Chuwei, Xie Xuan, nor Xie Yuqing have appeared.
Xie Xin had not received any messages from them.
She missed Yun Chuwei terribly, and wanted to know whether Yun Chuwei was alive or dead.
After much deliberation, she sent Wang Mu back to the capital and announced her marriage to him.
She had known for a long time that Wang Mu was her maternal uncle.
However, no one knew that she had overheard this.
Yun Chuwei didn't care about these things, so she didn't mention them, probably because she felt it was unnecessary.
Wang Mu and Xie Xuan deliberately chose to keep it from her.
She thought, if Yun Chuwei and Xie Xuan were still alive, they would definitely rush back if they knew she was going to marry Wang Mu.
Xie Xin sat before the imperial desk, placed the brush in his hand on the brush holder, and a smile appeared on his face.
"Royal Aunt!"
Just then, a low, somber voice came from outside the door.
The girl was only twelve or thirteen years old, but she had a maturity far beyond her years.
She was dressed in the Crown Prince's everyday clothes, and every move she made exuded extraordinary nobility.
Xie Xin looked at the little girl and smiled: "You're here? Come and sit down!"
Xie Yulan bowed to Xie Xin before sitting down next to him.
“Aunt, is your marriage to General Wang really going to make Mother and the others show up?”
The girl turned her head and asked Xie Xin. Although she was very concerned about this matter, she spoke slowly and calmly, and her tone was flat and unchanging, revealing neither joy nor anger nor purpose.
Every word and action of his was befitting a crown prince.
Through the girl, she seemed to see the figure of someone.
Xie Xin sighed inwardly, realizing that those who had been groomed as heirs since childhood were simply different from someone like her who had entered the profession later in life.
Xie Yulan noticed that Xie Xin was lost in thought and called her softly, "Auntie."
Xie Xin smiled and explained, "I was just thinking about your mother. Don't worry, if they find out about this, they will definitely show up."
Xie Yulan was delighted to receive an affirmative answer.
However, she remained expressionless throughout: "That's good."
At this moment, a palace attendant entered and bowed to the two: "Greetings, Princess; greetings, Your Highness. General Wang has arrived, saying he requests an audience with the Princess."
Before Xie Xin could say anything, Xie Yulan had already stood up.
"Auntie, I have class today, and my teacher is waiting for me. I'll head back now!"
Xie Xin nodded: "Go!"
After Xie Yulan left, Xie Xin had a eunuch invite Wang Mu in.
As Wang Mu walked in, he immediately saw Xie Xin, dressed in a bright yellow robe, sitting upright behind his desk.
He felt a surge of emotion.
The little girl who used to hide in her father's arms and cry after being scolded by her father and brothers is now sitting high in the hall, second only to the emperor and above thousands of others.
Even her uncle, who used to wipe away her tears, could only bow respectfully to her and address her as "Your Highness" or "Princess" when they met again.
Thinking this, Wang Mu was about to bow.
Xie Xin spoke up: "General Wang, no need for formalities. May I ask what brings you here?"
Wang Mu replied respectfully, “Your Majesty, I would like to request that you rescind your decree. I am not a suitable match for you and cannot marry you!”
Xie Xin stared at Wang Mu and asked, "Are you engaged?"
Wang Mu shook his head.
"Do you have someone you like?"
Wang Mu denied it again.
Xie Xin continued, "Since there's no engagement and no sweetheart, is it alright for you to play along with me in this charade?"
Wang Mu was puzzled: "What do you want to do?"
"It has been five years since my brother and Weiwei left, and all the people I sent out to search for them have returned empty-handed. I just want to use a wedding to bring them back!"
Wang Mu was somewhat surprised; he hadn't expected Xie Xin to have such a plan.
He frowned: "There are many talented young men in the court. If the Princess needs a wedding, why can't she choose someone else?"
"Why not someone else?" Xie Xin chuckled. "Naturally, you're the most suitable, and the effect will be the best!"
Wang Muxin tensed up, wondering if Xie Xin already knew something.
He said in a low voice, "I don't understand..."
Xie Xin looked at Wang Mu: "What don't you understand, little uncle?"
Her address of "little uncle" seemed to be squeezed out between her teeth, carrying a hint of gritted teeth.
Wang Mu's lips twitched slightly, and he looked apologetic: "You knew all along?"
Xie Xin glanced at Wang Mu and slowly said, "Unfortunately, while in the Northern Frontier, I overheard a conversation between my uncle and my elder brother."
This explains how I knew about this.
Wang Mu opened his mouth, wanting to say something, but didn't know how to start.
Xie Xin waved his hand, indicating that Wang Mu didn't need to say anything more.
She continued, "Now that Uncle knows my purpose, go back and prepare well. Don't give yourself away before my brother and Weiwei return!"
Wang Mu had no choice but to say, "Okay!"
The wedding was drawing ever closer, but Xie Xuan and Yun Chuwei showed no signs of showing up.
Xie Xin didn't care at all, and continued to handle political affairs as usual every day, while taking time to pay attention to the wedding preparations.
They really looked like they were about to get married.
The day before the wedding, Wang Mu finally couldn't hold back any longer and pushed open the door to the imperial study.
He looked at Xie Xin, who was still calmly handling her official duties, and said, "Princess, tomorrow is the auspicious day set by the Imperial Observatory. His Majesty and the Empress still haven't appeared. Are we really going to have to get married?"
