Yun Chuwei didn't even glance at Yun Mo, but instead walked straight into the Imperial Study.
Seeing this, Yunmo felt even angrier.
He couldn't stand it any longer and said to Sun Jiasheng, "Eunuch Sun, you say His Majesty summoned Yun Chuwei first? On what grounds?"
He's the one who won the battle! Shouldn't we at least summon him first?
Sun Jiasheng's face was full of smiles. Both of these siblings were the Emperor's new favorites, and he couldn't afford to offend either of them.
Although he said the two were catching up, it was obvious to anyone with eyes that they had a rather unpleasant argument.
Then Sun Jiasheng spoke up, "This old servant is not quite sure why His Majesty summoned Miss Yun first. Perhaps His Majesty has already gotten used to it."
Sun Jiasheng felt that he had explained things so clearly, and the young master should understand, right?
In his view, His Majesty values Miss Yun more.
After all, even matters like appointing officials now require His Majesty's consultation with Miss Yun.
"Habit? Does His Majesty summon her often?" Yunmo's lips twitched violently.
What does "habit" mean? Isn't Yun Chuwei a wild and unruly woman who only knows how to cause trouble? Why would His Majesty habitually summon her? Is this in accordance with the rules?
When asked, Sun Jiasheng smiled obsequiously and said, "Now that the young lady has joined the Imperial Observatory and is in charge of star observation, she naturally has to meet with His Majesty from time to time to report on celestial phenomena."
Miss Yun's current official position is in the Imperial Observatory, yet His Majesty has assigned her a team of Embroidered Uniform Guards and even appointed an imperial physician to accompany her. This shows just how much favor His Majesty bestows upon her.
He felt that if the young master in front of him was smart enough, he should try to get along well with Miss Yun.
Yunmo, however, did not think so.
He even wondered if His Majesty had gone mad.
"Yun Chuwei works at the Imperial Observatory? Observing stars? Does she know how?" Yun Mo said.
Sun Jiasheng nodded seriously: "Of course I will. These past few nights, this old servant has seen Miss Yun going to the observatory."
Sun Jiasheng felt that Yunmo's question was thoughtless.
Who is His Majesty? He is an emperor of unparalleled talent throughout history. Would anyone His Majesty favor lack true ability?
Yunmo was completely speechless.
Did Yun Chuwei deceive His Majesty to obtain this official position? If she does this, will her actions implicate the Marquis's family when her misdeeds are exposed?
He must have a serious talk with His Majesty about this later.
-
Upon seeing Yun Chuwei, the first thing Emperor Tianqi asked was about the stargazing: "I heard from Sun Jiasheng that you've been to the observatory these past few nights?"
Although he arranged for Yun Chuwei to serve as a Lingtai Lang, he did not require Yun Chuwei to perform her duties at the Observatory as required by regulations.
After all, with Yun Chuwei's abilities, she should be able to tell if there are any unusual celestial phenomena, no matter where she is.
Yun Chuwei nodded: "The Imperial Observatory has arranged the days for duty, so I should naturally go to the Observatory to be on duty."
The Tianqi Emperor remained noncommittal: "Have you discovered anything unusual?"
"Yes. The anomaly in the southeast nebula points to continuous torrential rains, which should correspond to the Jiangcheng area. To prevent flooding and dike breaches, the dikes in the Jiangcheng area should be reinforced immediately," Yun Chuwei said with a serious expression.
Upon hearing this, Emperor Tianqi first nodded, then frowned slightly.
Yun Chuwei couldn't possibly not record these things in her duty log.
The fact that it wasn't handed to him was clearly a problem with the old men at the Imperial Observatory.
He picked up a pen and scribbled a few lines on the paper, then called out towards the door, "Sun Jiasheng!"
Sun Jiasheng jogged in.
The Tianqi Emperor handed him the paper and said, "Send this to Bai Wenhai in Jiangcheng by express courier. Also, have Li Zhengkui come to see me. Let Yunmo in!"
Sun Jiasheng took the papers with both hands and left in a hurry.
Emperor Tianqi then turned his gaze back to Yun Chuwei and said, "You submitted a memorial before, saying that the rumors about you were spread by Yun Xian. At the time, I didn't quite believe it. However, after that case a few days ago, I understand what Yun Xian is all about."
Yun Chuwei listened quietly without replying.
Emperor Tianqi paused, then continued, "However, Yun Xian is, after all, your father and a direct descendant of Prime Minister Yun. I cannot simply take his life. Old Madam Yun even saved my life back then. Do you understand what I mean?"
"Your Majesty understands! The matter concerning Yun Xian is entirely up to Your Majesty's decision!" Yun Chuwei said slowly.
She knew Emperor Tianqi's temperament well; he was decisive and his word was law.
She had no reason to defy Emperor Tianqi for the sake of Yun Xian.
If Emperor Tianqi felt that Yun Xian didn't deserve to die, it was because Yun Xian hadn't done enough to deserve death!
She wasn't in a hurry. One day, Emperor Tianqi would realize that Yun Xian deserved to die!
Emperor Tianqi was very pleased to hear this.
Just then, Yunmo walked in.
"Your subject, Yunmo, pays his respects to Your Majesty!"
Yunmo knelt down respectfully and bowed to Emperor Tianqi.
Emperor Tianqi said, "Rise! My dear minister, you have won a great victory and made a great contribution this time. What reward do you want?"
Yunmo stood up and immediately said, "I was fortunate to win and dare not take credit. However, my father..."
The Emperor Tianqi's voice was calm: "You want to protect your father?"
Yunmo nodded: "He is, after all, my father. Moreover, family scandals should not be aired in public. These things should not have become common knowledge!"
"But this matter has already been exposed! We must give the people an explanation, mustn't we?" Emperor Tianqi said coolly.
Yun Mo glared at Yun Chuwei.
He felt that the problem was still his sister's fault. If she hadn't made things worse, things wouldn't have gotten to such an unmanageable point.
Emperor Tianqi continued, "However, since you have brought this matter up with me, I will naturally consider your opinion. You may protect Yun Xian, then the one who poisoned Madam Yun can only be Yun Lianhua. I will entrust this matter to you."
Yun Chuwei raised an eyebrow upon hearing Emperor Tianqi's words.
It must be said, this Emperor Tianqi was truly formidable.
They made the decision long ago, but claimed it was based on Yunmo's opinion.
Blaming Yun Lianhua for the poisoning was a way to achieve multiple goals at once.
First of all, this is to give her and He Ning an explanation.
Secondly, His Majesty held a grudge against the Crown Prince for refusing the marriage because of Yun Lianhua, though he didn't say anything. This can be seen as eliminating someone who influenced the Crown Prince and teaching him a lesson.
"Your Majesty, Lianhua, she..."
Yunmo wanted to say a few words in defense of Yun Lianhua.
Emperor Tianqi remained silent, only staring at Yunmo.
Yunmo felt the cold gaze of the Heavenly Emperor and suddenly couldn't continue speaking.
Emperor Tianqi then slowly said, "Yunmo, you understand what I mean, right?"
Upon hearing this, Yunmo knew that he had no room for negotiation.
"Your subject obeys the decree," Yunmo could only reply.
Emperor Tianqi nodded: "If there is nothing else, you may leave now."
Yunmo hurriedly replied, "I have other matters to attend to."
