After bringing Rong Yang back, Rong Ning accompanied Rong Yang back to Nanyang City. Rong Yang had served the Southern Dynasty in the Great Jing Dynasty for ten years. Although she could not be said to have endured humiliation and hardship, she had lived in constant fear and her personality had become much more cautious than before.
Rong Ning was afraid that some fools in Nanyang City might upset her older sister, and that she might not be comfortable staying in Nanyang City, so she put aside everything and accompanied Rong Yang back.
Ten years have passed, and much has changed in the Southern Dynasty. Rong Yang felt apprehensive as he approached his hometown, and the closer he got to Nanyang City, the more uneasy he became.
But she couldn't quite put her finger on what was making her uneasy.
Rong Ning could see her unease and felt extremely distressed. In her heart, her elder sister used to be as bright as a pearl, unique in Nanyang City, and she was doing very well. How could she be so uneasy?
She thought about it and realized that her older sister might have been away from the Southern Dynasty for too long and hadn't adjusted yet. So she instructed everyone to slow down and stop to rest for a few days in each prefecture. She took her older sister out to eat, drink, and have fun, and then continued on their way. What should have been a journey of less than a month took them almost two months to complete.
The people in Nanyang City didn't urge her. The emperor said that after ten years of marriage, Zhaoqing should return to the country and see what kind of country and people she had protected with her own body were like.
Since the emperor had said so, naturally no one dared to utter another word of nonsense and could only wait.
The day Rong Ning and Rong Yang arrived in Nanyang City, the weather was fine, and the city gate was bustling with activity. The emperor and the crown prince, along with a group of concubines, princes and princesses, members of the imperial family and nobles, and civil and military officials, greeted them at the city gate, while the people lined the streets to welcome them.
This scene left Rong Yang somewhat dazed.
When they went to marry into the country, even though they thought it was for the greater good of the nation, in the quiet of the night they couldn't help but feel abandoned by the country, alone and helpless, filled with fear and unease.
But now... it seems that she has done something truly remarkable in the past ten years.
Rong Ning reached her hand into the carriage, her voice soft, "Sister, don't be afraid, I'm here, I'll always be with you!"
"good..."
She grasped Rong Ning's hand and stepped off the carriage.
"Welcome Princess Zhaoqing..."
......
Before her eyes, a sea of kneeling figures knelt, and in her ears, waves of greetings rose and fell. Rong Yang looked at her father and elder brother not far away, her eyes instantly burning with tears that burst forth uncontrollably.
Tears blurred her vision, and she dared not move forward, remaining rooted to the spot.
The emperor was heartbroken to see her crying so hard. He rushed forward and took her hand from Rong Ning's. "Yang'er, don't cry. Your triumphant return to the Southern Dynasty is a joyous occasion, a great joyous occasion. Don't cry!"
His voice was slightly choked, his eyes were red, and there were tears welling up in them.
Rong Yang suppressed her tears, took a step back, clasped her hands together, knelt down, and kowtowed, performing a grand salute.
"Father, I have been unable to be by your side to fulfill my filial duties these past few years, and have caused you worry day and night. Your son is unfilial, please accept my bow!"
"Get up!" the emperor said, pulling her up. "All of this stems from me, your father."
He was forced to send his daughter away for a political marriage, and he has been resentful about it for the past few years.
Fortunately, his daughter was eventually brought back.
The sun was still very strong in July and August, and fearing that Rong Yang would get sunburned, the emperor took her back to the palace.
After so many years, Zhaoqing Palace has remained empty, and all the furnishings are just as they were back then.
Rong Ning did not return to the princess's residence, but stayed in the palace with Rong Yang. Xie Chong, on the other hand, returned to take charge of the affairs of the princess's residence.
Rong Yang slept day and night for several days in Zhaoqing Palace before she felt alive again. The palace held a banquet for her to show its regard for her.
Let's do it...
Anyway, she doesn't need to handle these things.
After the palace banquet, Rong Ning took Rong Yang back to her princess residence.
Rongyang's princess residence had been prepared long ago, but Rongyang didn't want to live alone; it felt empty and uncomfortable.
After leaving the palace, Rong Ning took Rong Yang to explore all of Nanyang City, visiting places she had never been before or dared not go.
After playing for more than a month, Rong Yang found it boring.
"Ah Ning...when are you going back to the Northern Border?" Rong Yang plucked the strings of her zither absentmindedly. "You've been staying in Nanyang City for so long, isn't the Northern Border army in chaos?"
Upon hearing this, Rong Ning slumped over and leaned against Rong Yang's knees, grinning as she said, "Sister, don't worry, I arranged everything before I came back. Besides, A Ying and You Jiang are still keeping an eye on things for me in the Northern Territory, so nothing will go wrong. I want to stay with you, sister. I can't leave you alone in Nanyang City; I can't bear to."
"I see..."
Rong Yang casually swept his fingers around the strings of the zither and said lazily, "A Ning, I have never left Nanyang City since I was born. When I finally left Nanyang City, it was just jumping from one cage to another. The first half of my life has been trapped in this world, which is quite boring."
Ah Ning...actually, I also want to be like you, traveling all over the mountains and seas of the Southern Dynasty, to see the clouds and seas I've never seen before."
Rong Ning instantly understood her meaning and jumped up, "Sister, I'll tell Father right now to take you on a journey!"
"If you take me on a journey, what will happen to the North?"
"I will resign from this official position. The Southern Dynasty is not what it used to be. There is still someone who can take my place."
Upon hearing this, Rong Yang reached out and flicked her forehead, "What nonsense are you talking about... You've sacrificed so much for this position, how can you just give it up like that?"
"But sister, all I did in the beginning was to bring you back. Now that you're back, I don't care about any of this anymore!"
