Chapter 10 A Last Resort

Zhaoqing Palace and Taiji Hall are not far apart. The Emperor personally selected the palace, and the Consort did not interfere.

She was famous from a young age and was the apple of the eye of the Yu Prince's family. Her father, the Emperor, always liked her very much and showed her obvious favoritism in many things.

When Rong Yang arrived, the emperor was still discussing various matters with his ministers. The eunuch guarding outside the palace gate wanted to go in to report, but Rong Yang stopped him.

She waited quietly there.

She waited outside the palace for over an hour, but there was no movement from inside. Finally, the head eunuch came out and was surprised to see Rong Yang. "Princess Zhaoqing, what are you doing here?"

She smiled slightly and nodded politely, "Eunuch Qi, I have something to discuss with my father, but it's nothing important. I wouldn't dare disturb him, so I'll just wait here. It'll only be an hour, so I'll just use it as a way to pass the time."

An hour?

"Ouch... really..." Eunuch Qi stamped his foot, glanced at the little eunuch beside him, kicked him in the buttocks, and scolded him in a low voice, "What an idiot! How dare you neglect Princess Zhaoqing? Do you want to die?"

“Eunuch Qi…” Rong Yang raised her hand to stop him, “It was I who told him not to report it, so don’t blame them.”

Eunuch Qi was a shrewd man. He put on a smile and said, "Princess Zhaoqing, it's all because these people are ignorant and have kept you waiting here for so long. It's almost time inside. I'll go and report to His Majesty right away. Princess, please wait a moment."

Not long after Eunuch Qi went in, the ministers began to emerge one after another. After waiting for a while, Eunuch Qi came out and said with a smile and respect, "Princess Zhaoqing, His Majesty invites you."

Rong Yang nodded, tidied her appearance, and stepped inside. Her legs were a little sore from standing for so long, but she still steadily gave the emperor a deep bow, saying, "Your subject begs for forgiveness for what happened in the main hall today."

The emperor raised his eyelids slightly and said calmly, "Get up..."

When Rong Ning spoke recklessly in the main hall, berating him and the ministers, she was genuinely angry; otherwise, she wouldn't have ordered them to be flogged.

But after calming down, I realized that what Rong Ning said, though extremely harsh, was not wrong.

They are utterly shameless.

His daughter, having enjoyed the privileges of a princess for only a few days, was forced to bear the responsibilities of one.

He knew his younger daughter's temperament well, and he also knew that his two daughters had a deep sisterly bond.

After calming down for so long, he felt more relieved than angry, thinking that the majestic palace walls had not made them lose their true selves.

The Emperor asked Rong Yang to sit down in a chair at the lower end of the table, and had Eunuch Qi serve her refreshments and tea. He then asked, "How is A Ning? Is she seriously injured?"

"Father is merciful. A-Ning is not seriously injured; it's just a superficial wound."

The emperor remained silent for a moment, then sighed slowly, "Yang'er... In this matter, A'ning is not wrong, but I am not wrong either. It's just that our positions and considerations are different. Don't blame me for being so heartless as to send you to Dajing."

“Father, you flatter me…” Rong Yang said calmly. “If I can do something for the Southern Dynasty, then my life will not have been in vain. In the long years to come, whether good or bad, I will accept it.”

The emperor was taken aback for a moment, then put down the memorial in his hand. "I am comforted that you think this way. You are, after all, my beloved daughter. I would not have been so cruel if I had not had to do it."

Yes... unless absolutely necessary...

Rong Yang lowered his head and furrowed his brows, concealing the emotions in his eyes.

"The Great Jing has set the date for the marriage alliance very soon," the emperor continued, "Today I have already instructed the Six Ministries to begin preparations, and we will depart in a month."

Is time so tight?

Rong Yang felt as if a large hand was pulling at his heart, causing him to throb with pain. His hands, hidden in his sleeves, clenched until they turned white. His mind went blank, and he couldn't utter a single word.

She could accept going to a political marriage, but she couldn't accept it being so rushed.

If she sets off in a month, she won't even be able to see her older brother one last time.

“Father…” Rong Yang’s voice was hoarse, “Then… could you please summon my elder brother back from the south before I go to marry a foreign ruler?”
