Chapter 83 Eyeliner

He was the high and mighty Crown Prince, while she was just an insignificant commoner.

There was already an insurmountable chasm between them, which she could not cross no matter how hard she tried.

Moreover, she is not someone who likes to rely on others. In her world, no matter how great the difficulties, she will grit her teeth and face them alone.

Why would they easily seek his help?

Despite having such thoughts in his heart, Yujang maintained a respectful and docile smile on his face.

She nodded gently, her voice soft yet firm, "This humble subject thanks Your Highness for your kindness. However... Your Highness is so busy with affairs of state that I dare not disturb your precious time any further. If needed, this humble subject will naturally seek help from others."

After saying this, she bowed deeply once more, then turned and left.

She'll go crazy if we don't run away.

The crown prince was left standing there alone, watching her receding figure, his heart filled with complex and helpless emotions. His eyes held both disappointment and understanding, as well as an indescribable deep affection and reluctance to part.

Ah Heng, who went to deliver breakfast to Rong Ning, was quite surprised to see You Jiang arrive at Rong Ning's place so quickly.

Is it really true that old friends are so indifferent when they meet again?

Don't they have anything to say to each other?

Have they really broken up?

Youjiang glanced at him, her eyes conveying an unspoken warning, telling him not to cause trouble.

“Youjiang…come here…” Rong Ning’s voice was soft and warm. She gently beckoned, as if inviting a close friend.

You Jiang smiled slightly, a smile that contained both respect for Rong Ning and a hint of barely perceptible doting.

She walked slowly toward Rong Ning, her steps exuding composure and elegance.

She stood beside Rong Ning and greeted him gently, "Your Highness..."

Rong Ning smiled slightly, a smile as warm and bright as the spring sunshine, as if it could dispel all the gloom and coldness in the world.

"Your Highness...you're leaving today. Aren't you taking your things from the Prefect's residence with you?" Youjiang asked with concern.

Her voice carried a hint of reluctance and worry, as if she was afraid that Rong Ning might have forgotten something important.

“I won’t take it with me…” Rong Ning shook her head gently, her tone revealing a sense of nonchalance and indifference. The evidence of her crimes that she was supposed to take with her always carried with her.

She took a sip of tea and continued, "I'll have everything when I get back to Nanyang City. Why bother bringing all this stuff back with me? I'll leave it all to you."

Her words were filled with generosity and trust in Youjiang.

Then, Rong Ning continued, "I mentioned you to Lord Chu last night. He said you are very capable and trustworthy. So, if you don't want to move, you can stay in the Prefect's Mansion. He will definitely move here later, so he can easily find you if he needs your help."

However, Rong Ning also considered You Jiang's feelings and needs, "But if you feel that the Prefect's Mansion is chaotic and not quiet, then move to the house I bought in Kangye City."

Her words revealed thoughtfulness and consideration, making Youjiang feel cared for and warm.

You Jiang sat down next to Rong Ning, and replied in a slow and steady voice, "Your Highness, you don't need to worry about where I am. Apart from the three years I spent in the Eastern Palace, I've spent most of my time traveling outside, so I'm very adaptable."

"You have plenty of money now, so you can go back without worry. I will stay in Kangye City to help Lord Chu with his affairs."

Rong Ning listened quietly to You Jiang's words, her gaze slowly sweeping around to make sure no one else was disturbing her.

Then, she gently raised her hand and instructed Aheng and Aying, who were standing beside her, "You two go outside and keep watch to ensure that this place is not disturbed in any way. I have a few important matters to discuss with General Youjiang."

Upon hearing this, Aheng and Aying immediately accepted the order and turned to leave. Before leaving, Aheng carefully reminded them, "Your Highness, these breakfasts were all personally selected and specially prepared for you by His Highness the Crown Prince. Please be sure to eat them while they are hot, so as not to upset your stomach if they get cold."

Rong Ning nodded slightly, while A Ying, impatient, urged them to leave quickly.

Once the two figures disappeared outside the door, her gaze returned to You Jiang, a complex and indescribable emotion flashing in her eyes.

She gently invited, "Youjiang, please sit down and enjoy this breakfast with us. After all, it's a token of my brother's appreciation."

Upon hearing this, You Jiang was taken aback for a moment, then a faint sneer appeared on his lips. "Isn't it all the same who bought it? It's just a bite to eat, why be so particular?"

Her tone clearly carried a hint of resentment, as if she was dissatisfied with something.

Seeing this, Rong Ning raised an eyebrow and asked, "What's wrong? Did my elder brother say something to make you so unhappy?"

You Jiang shook his head slightly, appearing unwilling to discuss it further. "None of that is important! Your Highness, let's get back to the main topic. You said you had something to tell me, what is it?"

Her tone was tinged with urgency, clearly indicating that she took the topic of discussion very seriously.

Um…

Rong Ning pondered for a moment, her deep eyes seemingly able to see into people's hearts, and slowly said, "My intention in letting you stay in the North to assist Lord Chu was indeed for the stability and prosperity of the North."

However, due to the unspoken, deep relationship between us, and between you and your elder brother, outsiders might misunderstand and think that you are our spy planted in the North, monitoring Lord Chu's every move.
