Chapter 68 Disposal

Rong Ning watched this scene quietly, her heart not experiencing much turmoil.

As a general of the Southern Dynasty, it is astonishing that someone would tolerate the prefect's arms dealing with the Great Jing Dynasty, completely disregarding the serious consequences this behavior might bring to the Southern Dynasty.

People like General Bai were undoubtedly a cancer in the Southern Dynasty's army, and the death of each of them was a purification of the Southern Dynasty.

Rong Ning stood there, coldly glancing at General Bai's corpse, her eyes devoid of any pity.

Her tone was so cold it seemed to freeze the entire world as she said, "Hang his body outside and display it to the public, so that all these imprisoned people can see that the person who abused them has received the punishment he deserves."

After saying this, she resolutely turned around and left the study without hesitation.

Her steps were firm and powerful, each step filled with determination and courage.

Her gaze was fixed on the gradually brightening sky in the distance, her heart filled with anticipation and hope.

She knew all too well that this battle would be exceptionally difficult, but this was only the first step; endless bloodshed and turmoil lay ahead.

Both inside and outside the court, tremendous changes will occur.

And it all started from here—she single-handedly tore open this breach.

She wanted to let the oppressed and exploited people know that justice will ultimately prevail over evil and light will surely dispel darkness.

When they learned that General Bai was dead and saw his body hanging high in the middle of the village, cheers erupted from the crowd.

These people, who had suffered greatly at the hands of General Bai, are now finally free.

They were moved to tears and knelt down to express their gratitude.

Rong Ning stood in the middle, looking at the excited crowd around her, a gratified smile on her face.

She knew that everything she had done was worthwhile.

As night faded and dawn broke, Rong Ning took a deep breath and strode forward with firm and powerful steps.

She knew that although today's move was a small victory, it was an important step on a thorny path.

General Yang rushed over and reported to Rong Ning in a low voice, "Your Highness, General Bai's soldiers have all been brought under control."

How should we deal with them? Please advise, Your Highness.

Rong Ning frowned slightly; this was indeed a thorny issue. After a moment's thought, she slowly said, "First, temporarily settle General Bai's troops outside the camp, but keep a close watch on them and do not be negligent in any way."

At the same time, I hereby convey my order to the entire army: No one is permitted to discuss this matter privately; any violation will be severely punished.

Her voice was steady and powerful, finally putting General Yang's mind at ease.

If so many soldiers were to be executed along with General Bai, it would be a tremendous gamble.

Now that Rong Ning has issued such an order, it means that there may still be a chance for things to turn around and for things to be salvaged.

General Yang took a deep breath, then respectfully accepted the order and left, saying, "Yes, Your Highness."

A resolute glint flashed in Rong Ning's eyes. "Wait, I want to personally meet with General Bai about accepting these soldiers."

"Your Highness, this is far too dangerous. The morale of General Bai's troops is low. What if..."

General Yang tried to dissuade him with great concern, his voice filled with an undeniable tension.

"My mind is made up."

"Can't!"

Ah Ying suddenly appeared out of nowhere and said anxiously, "You can't go there, it's too dangerous!"

Rong Ning interrupted her firmly, "I have to go. There are so many people; I have to give an explanation!"

Looking at Rong Ning's determined eyes, A Ying knew that she had made up her mind, so she sighed helplessly and said, "Alright... but please be careful!"

Don't worry!

Rong Ning smiled and reassured her, "I will be careful."

After saying that, she turned and walked towards the camp.

Aying stood there, watching Rong Ning's departing figure, a trace of worry and concern flashing in her eyes.

As night fell, moonlight spilled like water onto the grass outside the camp. Rong Ning, dressed in simple clothes, quietly entered the temporarily isolated area with a few trusted confidants.

When the soldiers saw her, they were stunned for a moment, and then they all knelt down to pay their respects.

The whole scene appeared very solemn and subtle.

Rong Ning walked quietly, her gaze sharp, carefully scrutinizing the face of each soldier, trying to read their true thoughts from their eyes.

"Get up!"

Rong Ning spoke gently to the soldiers, her voice carrying a hint of authority.

The soldiers stood up one by one, standing in neat rows, waiting for Rong Ning's instructions.

Rong Ning continued walking forward, her steps light yet firm. Each step seemed to resonate in the soldiers' hearts, letting them feel her determination and courage.

Reaching the tent, Rong Ning stopped and gazed at it. She took a deep breath, then gently pushed open the door and went inside.

She finally spoke, her voice not loud, but loud enough for everyone to hear, "I know some of you may feel indignant about General Bai's death, but you should know better than anyone why he had to die."

After he finished speaking, a murmur arose from the crowd, some surprised, some doubtful, and some relieved.

Rong Ning looked around and continued, "Everyone, for the peace and tranquility of the North and for the happiness of the people, I have fought alongside you and know the hardships you have faced in the North. General Bai has held the North for more than ten years, and his contributions are beyond question."

But... the mistake he made, at best, was obeying the prefect's orders; at worst, it was treason.
