Chapter 16 Moving Out of the Basement

Jiang Yuan got up and opened the door.

"Oh, you've finally come out after hiding for a few days. You have two choices: either move out or pay the rent!" The landlord was taken aback when he saw Jiang Yuan.

She looks different than before, especially her eyes. Before, they were clear and transparent, like a little white rabbit, but now they look dark and deep, and not to be trifled with.

“Okay,” Jiang Yuan said, walking past the landlord without hesitation.

There wasn't much in the house; the most valuable thing she had was the cell phone in her hand.

So, she didn't have much to pack.

The landlord was stunned. Jiang Yuan agreed way too readily!

"Wait, wait a minute, I, I was just joking. Where else can you go if you move out of here?"

“I know you’re short on cash right now. Considering you’ve been renting from me for so many years, I’ll reduce your rent by two hundred. How does that sound? You’re living here just fine. Moving out would mean getting used to a new place, which would be such a waste of time.”

When the landlord saw that Jiang Yuan was really going to leave, he panicked.

This basement is damp and dark, and she's finally found a sucker willing to pay more for a place outside. How could she let her go so easily?

She just wanted to scare her, but she didn't expect Jiang Yuan to be so decisive this time.

"Even if you reduce the rent by two hundred, it's still higher than a one-bedroom apartment outside. I may be easy to fool, but I'm not stupid," Jiang Yuan exposed.

"What do you mean it's more expensive than a one-bedroom apartment outside? My rent is already very cheap. If it weren't for the fact that you've been renting this place for five years, I wouldn't have given you a two hundred discount. I'm being kind, but you don't appreciate it. Fine, if you want to leave, then leave. I'd like to see what kind of place you can afford with your impoverished appearance." Seeing that he had been exposed, the landlord stopped pretending with Jiang Yuan and said with contempt and disdain.

Given her poverty, what kind of place could she afford to rent besides a basement?

"Just a heads-up, you'd better go home." Faced with the landlord's mockery, Jiang Yuan wasn't angry; instead, she reminded him.

After saying that, Jiang Yuan turned and left.

The money she withdrew from Pingyin was not enough for her to rent an apartment in the city, but it would be enough for her to stay in a hotel for a few days or half a month.

"Go home? You think I'll just go home like that? I'm not going! Who's as idle as you, staying home all day? I'm a landlady, collecting rent every day, I'm very busy!" The landlord mistakenly thought Jiang Yuan was telling her to go somewhere cool and stay there, and mocked her back.

"Landlord, landlord, your house is on fire!" A tenant ran down the stairs, saying in a panic.

Upon hearing this, the landlord turned pale and rushed upstairs, exclaiming, "Oh dear, my money and my cards are all at home!"

When Jiang Yuan came out of the old residential area, the fire in the landlord's house was getting bigger and bigger, and it was only when the firefighters arrived that the fire was extinguished.

Fortunately, the firefighters arrived in time, and the fire only burned the landlord's room, without affecting other tenants, and no one was injured or killed.

The bad news is that the landlord was reprimanded, fined, and ordered to rectify the situation because not only was the building's fire safety inadequate, but she also altered the fire escape route without authorization.
