Chapter 40 Exposing the Disguise

Wei Qinghe shook her head indifferently, "It's alright, I need to find a quiet and safe place to meditate now."

Upon hearing this, the village chief nodded in agreement. "Then, fairy, please follow me."

Wei Qinghe followed the village chief into the secret passage, and the stone door slowly closed.

It felt like being instantly cut off from the world.

Wei Qinghe remained calm and even took out a luminous pearl to provide light.

The two walked one after the other along the secret passage. After an unknown amount of time, they came across a suspension bridge made of vines.

At the other end of the suspension bridge is a cave.

"It seems that the ancestors of Yongquan Village were quite remarkable, as they were able to open up this place."

Not to mention the two ends, the discovery of this place is by no means simple.

Here, you can't see the sky when you look up, nor the ground when you look down; below must be a place like an abyss.

The village chief sighed: "Actually, our ancestors also produced powerful cultivators, but later no decent cultivators appeared."

It means that although ordinary people cannot build this place, our ancestors were amazing.

Wei Qinghe gently tugged at the leaves of the vine. "It's just everyone's destiny. What does it matter if you're a cultivator or an ordinary person?"

"Everyone is just living their own life. A glamorous appearance doesn't necessarily mean a smooth and fulfilling life. Being an ordinary person for life doesn't necessarily mean being unhappy."

The village chief seemed somewhat surprised that Wei Qinghe would say such a thing. “What the fairy says is absolutely right. Let’s go over there. That cave has some spiritual energy, which may help the fairy recover her spiritual energy sooner.”

The village chief walked onto the vine bridge first, and Wei Qinghe naturally followed.

Inside the cave, a shimmering light and a vibrant spiritual energy filled the air.

As the light from the luminous pearl spread, it gradually illuminated the situation inside the cave.

The cave is very large and clearly divided into areas, much like a small home.

"Fairy, you can rest here. I'll go find something to eat." The village chief said, then picked up his lantern and prepared to leave.

Wei Qinghe suddenly called out to him, "Village Chief, wait a minute. Take this luminous pearl with you; it's more useful than a lantern."

"Thank you, fairy." The village chief didn't think much of it and quickly accepted the luminous pearl.

After the village chief left, Wei Qinghe casually glanced around.

Then she arrived at a spot where spiritual energy flickered at her fingertips, and an array immediately spread out and appeared at her feet.

"A spirit-gathering array! It seems the elders of Yongquan Village were indeed powerful."

As soon as she sat down, a steady stream of spiritual energy flowed into her body. Although Wei Qinghe had the support of the space and wouldn't actually exhaust her spiritual energy, it was easier to recover by absorbing it from outside than by absorbing it from the space.

After an unknown amount of time, when Wei Qinghe opened her eyes, some low-grade spiritual fruits were already placed on the stone table beside her.

The village chief, his back hunched, leaned against the stone gate, lost in thought.

Upon hearing the voice, the village chief turned around, his forehead wound still quite severe. "Fairy, how are you feeling?"

Wei Qinghe sighed and shook her head, "Although there is spiritual energy here, it is not well absorbed, and the spiritual energy cannot be replenished."

"Fairy, don't be anxious. Your poisoning might be too severe. Eat something first." The village chief limped forward and presented the spiritual fruit to Wei Qinghe.

Wei Qinghe picked up a spirit fruit and weighed it in her hand. "Such a fresh spirit fruit must taste good, right?"

"Village chief, you've worked hard too, with so many injuries on your body, please eat as well."

The village chief quickly waved his hand in refusal, saying, "How can an ordinary person like me eat such a precious spiritual fruit? It would be a waste for me to eat it. I've already eaten two sweet potatoes, so I'm not hungry now. Fairy, you can have it."

Wei Qinghe handed him a spirit fruit, saying, "I can't finish it all by myself, and I don't have much of an appetite right now. Let's eat it together."

Wei Qinghe began to wander around the cave with the spirit fruit in her hand. The village chief held the spirit fruit but hesitated to eat it, intentionally or unintentionally keeping a certain distance behind Wei Qinghe.

"Fairy, this spiritual fruit tastes quite good..."

Wei Qinghe suddenly threw the spiritual fruit in her hand at the village chief. A sinister glint flashed in the village chief's eyes, and he dodged it in time.

Wei Qinghe made a hand seal, and her jade-like longsword shot out swiftly. "Not pretending anymore?"

"Fairy, what are you saying? Is there some misunderstanding?" The village chief's face changed drastically with fear.

Wei Qinghe gave him no chance to explain and suddenly thrust her longsword at the village chief.

Her swordsmanship was superb. The village chief dodged at first, but still took a hit.

In an instant, the village chief changed completely; he was no longer the hunched old man, but a robust middle-aged man.

The man was none other than Gu Meng, the Great Elder of the Demon Clan!

"So you're finally willing to show your true face! I thought you were going to continue using someone else's identity." Wei Qinghe sneered, not at all surprised to see Gu Meng's true face.

Gu Meng was quite surprised. He looked down at the bleeding wound on his arm.

"You saw through the village chief's identity long ago? I am the Great Elder of the Demon Clan, not some cowardly person hiding my true identity. Even Daoist Fuyue couldn't tell, so how did you?"

Wei Qinghe held a sword in one hand and a talisman in the other. Even the Great Elder of the Demon Clan had been mobilized. Did the Demon Clan want to completely break ties with the Immortal Sect?

But if the demon race was going to attack the continent, why did they only make such a small commotion? Shouldn't they have come with a massive demon army?

“Daoist Fuyue is an upright person, and under those circumstances, he was only concerned about everyone’s safety, so he didn’t pay attention to you.”

“Under those circumstances, you were only anxious and not afraid. This is not the reaction an ordinary person should have when faced with an attack by the demon race. The reason I followed you is to see what you are trying to do.”

Gu Meng frowned, as if analyzing Wei Qinghe's words. "I didn't expect you to be so composed and observant at such a young age."

"You are also very intelligent. I originally planned to take you back to use as a furnace, but it seems I can keep you by my side for a long time." After saying this, Gu Meng's demonic power erupted.

He controlled the vines at the cave entrance and they suddenly attacked Wei Qinghe.

The vines moved swiftly like whips, yet were as agile as snakes.

"It seems you were the one who caused the dark aura before. You are the master of the succubus!"

The thought of all the suffering I endured at the hands of the mimosa tree made me furious; I had really been careless.

Wei Qinghe gathered her spiritual power, and a white tiger phantom appeared behind her, while her steady sword energy rapidly expanded.

[Heavenly Origin Ice Condensation Technique! Myriad Swords Return to Their Origin]

The multi-elemental sword energy transformed into numerous sword energies, all heading towards Gu Meng and the vines.

The vines were incredibly flexible, managing to entangle Wei Qinghe's multi-elemental sword energy.

The sword energy, though entangled, continued to surge forward, trembling violently. The vines also trembled, emitting a faint green light.

"Crack..." The vines snapped inch by inch, and the sword energy surged forward once more.
