The next morning, when Tang Li went to pick up her child from kindergarten, she ran into Gu Mingcheng again.
To say that she and Gu Mingcheng were not destined to be together would be an understatement, as she didn't even know who Gu Mingcheng was before.
But lately, this man has been appearing around her more and more frequently, and it seems a bit deliberate.
"Mr. Gu, are you here to pick up my child?" Tang Li asked with a smile.
Tang Li clearly did not want A Lu to go with a stranger.
It would be dangerous if the person next time wasn't someone I knew.
Gu Mingcheng explained, "I happened to be here today and saw someone trying to take A-Lu away. I was worried they were bad people, so I came here on my own initiative!"
When A-Lu heard Uncle Gu say that, he nodded.
A stranger did try to pull him away, but Gu Mingcheng appeared in time and stopped him, telling him to wait there for his mother.
"Thank you, Mr. Gu."
Gu Mingcheng smiled gently. "Tang Li, just call me Mingcheng."
Tang Li nodded politely but did not agree.
Gu Mingcheng was not giving up. He looked at the little guy again, and he seemed to really like A-Lu.
"Could I invite you and your son to lunch sometime? Don't get me wrong, I just think the little boy is so cute, I'm quite fond of him!"
Gu Mingcheng had helped Alu this time, so it wouldn't be appropriate for Tang Li to refuse, and she agreed.
"But I should be the one inviting you."
The three of them went to a Western restaurant together, but Gu Mingcheng said that the restaurant next door was more suitable for children.
"I think the food there is cuter, and it's cartoon-themed, which should make kids like it more. Shall we go there?"
Tang Li frowned in confusion when she saw that there was a family-friendly restaurant next door.
It seems inappropriate for her and Gu Mingcheng to bring Alu to a family-friendly restaurant.
Sure enough, as soon as the three of them walked in, they were treated as a family.
"Sir, Madam, this way please. Your child is so adorable!"
In this situation, with the three of them coming to a family-friendly restaurant together, Tang Li couldn't easily explain that they weren't a family.
This feeling, however, made her somewhat uncomfortable.
Gu Mingcheng seemed to have crossed her personal boundaries, but she didn't quite like it.
Clearly, Gu Mingcheng had not yet realized what he had done wrong.
While waiting for the food, Gu Mingcheng sent Huo Chenxi a message: "I feel that this is a big step forward in our relationship. We came to a family-friendly restaurant together, with her child, Alu."
Huo Chenxi smiled when she saw her good friend's message.
"Going to a family-friendly restaurant together doesn't necessarily mean your relationship has made substantial progress, Mr. Gu. Whether she took you in on her own initiative or you took her in makes a world of difference!"
Gu Mingcheng frowned, turned his phone over, and stopped looking at the messages.
Huo Chenxi's words make sense. Did Tang Li bring him here on her own initiative, or did he bring Tang Li here?
These two things have completely different meanings.
After the waiter brought over a plate of sweet and sour pork ribs, he also had a cute little blue doll on another tray.
"Sir and Madam, your family can take a group photo together. I'll take the picture for you, and it will be posted on our restaurant's family photo board. This plush toy is a reward for you!"
Gu Mingcheng was about to agree when Tang Li shook her head and refused.
"I'm sorry, we're just good friends, not family."
Ah Lu also said, "I already have several of these plush toys, I don't want them!"
Upon hearing this, the waiter nodded with a smile and did not try to sell anything further.
"In that case, let me add a dish for you."
"Mom, I want to eat stir-fried shrimp!"
Tang Li nodded, "Then let's add another dish of stir-fried prawns."
When Gu Mingcheng saw that Tang Li and A Lu were unwilling to take a group photo, his gaze darkened. However, his gloomy expression vanished in an instant, replaced by a broad smile.
“A-Lu is so adorable. If my child hadn’t had that accident, he would be about the same age as A-Lu now.”
Tang Li smiled faintly; she didn't particularly like the aura surrounding Gu Mingcheng.
Every time she got close to this man, she felt uneasy.
However, Gu Mingcheng didn't do anything excessive. He even helped her teach Huo Chenxi a lesson at the bar. Furthermore, Gu's grandfather and maternal grandfather Tang Yihui were old friends.
Because of these various entanglements, Tang Li could only maintain a social distance from Gu Mingcheng that was neither too close nor too distant.
Unexpectedly, Gu Mingcheng said, "Tang Li, I have a presumptuous request. May I adopt A-Lu as my godson?"
Tang Li was stunned for a moment.
Since he knows this request is presumptuous, then he shouldn't make it!
The little guy reacted quickly, "Uncle, I already have a godfather and godmother!"
Tang Li just smiled awkwardly, neither directly refusing nor decisively agreeing.
Gu Mingcheng said with a smile, "Alu, having another godfather isn't a bad thing. Your godfather will buy you gifts and take good care of you!"
A-Lu shook his head, "I don't want a godfather anymore."
"Children speak without thinking." Tang Li smiled, easing the awkward atmosphere.
After finishing her meal, Tang Li paid the bill while she went to the restroom.
Tang Li didn't want to have much contact with Gu Mingcheng anymore, and even A Lu could tell.
"Mom, do you not like that uncle from earlier?"
Tang Li smiled and pinched A-Lu's cheek. "No, we're just ordinary friends, and we should keep a proper distance."
