A-Lu raised an eyebrow. He was fine just now, but suddenly he coughed twice, which sounded a bit too deliberate.
"Call your mother now and tell her I have a cold."
Isn't this a bit too fake?
"We were eating at the same table just now, and you were perfectly normal!"

A-Lu dialed Tang Li's number, coughing before he could speak.
"Mom, I think I have a cold, and my head hurts a little."
The voice sounded weak and feeble; only someone who had been bedridden for more than ten days could produce such a sound.
The living room was unusually quiet, and Lu Jianshen could clearly hear Tang Li's voice on the other end of the phone.
"What happened? Where's your dad? He was perfectly fine at the restaurant just now."
