Chapter 3: The Wedding Night

Just as Lu Chengyi was about to introduce Ding Weiwei, Ding Weiwei also put on a flattering smile and sat up straight, "Uncle, you've misunderstood, Weiwei..."

I have no interest in your cats or dogs!

As expected of her uncle, a person revered like a god by the entire Lu family, Tang Li smiled and thanked the man in her heart for helping her.

Fearing that she might upset Lu Jianshen, Lu's mother quickly tried to smooth things over, saying that she wouldn't cause trouble so early in the morning again, and advised Tang Li to go back and rest.

Ding Weiwei gave him a subtle wink, and Lu Chengyi quickly followed his mother into the side hall, leaving only the two of them.

"Mom, I want a divorce from Tang Li!"

Mrs. Lu's face darkened. "What's the rush? Now is not the time for a divorce!"

She's caused so much trouble so early in the morning; does she think she's blind and can't see her son's intentions?

Lu Chengyi couldn't understand. "Mom, what do you mean by that?"

"Grandpa Tang Li left a will, and she will inherit the Tang family's estate on her 25th birthday. Do you know how much money that is?!"

Lu's mother sighed in frustration; that was a golden opportunity to make a fortune.

"Her 25th birthday is only three months away, so just bear with it a little longer and try to keep things quiet for now!"

"And that Ding Weiwei, if she wants to climb up to our family and live a good life, she should learn to behave herself and not provoke Tang Li."

Lu Chengyi never expected that his mother's reason for not letting him get a divorce was actually financial.

Indeed, he is short of money.

The Lu family's prestige belongs to Lu Jianshen, not to Lu Chengyi. If he were as rich as Lu Jianshen, he would be the king of the entire capital!

Currently, he only holds a nominal position at Lu's branch office and hasn't worked there for three years. He has to rely on his uncle for everything.

Lu's mother said, "What you should be worried about now is Tang Li wanting a divorce, not you going to her for a divorce!"

Lu Chengyi said confidently, "Mom, don't worry, she can't bear to part with me. She's always thought of me as her savior!"

————

Tang Li is indeed considering divorce; she has even drafted the divorce agreement.

But she was still hesitant. Just a few days ago, she found out that the person who rescued her from the fire at the Meng family manor 15 years ago was not Lu Chengyi.

Lu Chengyi even impersonated her savior; he was utterly shameless.

What exactly does the character "陆" on the jade pendant she retrieved from the fire refer to...?

Aunt Fang brought over the sweet soup, her face full of heartache. She had come from the Tang family with Tang Li and had been taking care of her since Tang Li was born, treating her like her own daughter.

The young lady has already suffered enough being a widow for three years. Now that her son-in-law has returned, he brings another woman to make her suffer. Who can tolerate that?

"Miss, let's get a divorce today and go home. Madam and Master can't bear to see you suffer like this. That Lu Chengyi is a scoundrel. Aunt Fang will help you pack your things and go home!"

Tang Li felt a warmth in her heart and reached out to pull the grief-stricken Aunt Fang along.

She wants a divorce, but she wants to wait a little longer. If she leaves like this, wouldn't that be letting Lu Chengyi have it easy?

Ding Weiwei still wants to harm her, and she will never let her off easily!

"Aunt Fang, I'll take you home in a little while."

As for now, the show still has to be performed.

She also wanted to know if the jade pendant was related to the Lu family, and who was the person who risked their life to save her from the fire...

In the living room, Tang Li took out the divorce agreement. Lu Chengyi thought of what his mother had said and felt a little worried.

Lu's mother, who was standing to the side, also panicked.

"No way, you can't get a divorce!"

As she spoke, she quickly winked at her son.

Lu Chengyi immediately said, "Lili, I don't agree to a divorce. I just talked to Mom, and she said that you've endured a lot on your own these past three years and sacrificed a lot for our family. I won't let you down again."

Anyone who didn't know better would really think he was incredibly affectionate and loyal.

Unfortunately, Tang Li, having been immersed in the business world for three years, saw through Lu Chengyi's intentions at a glance.

There's only one thing that could make him change his attitude overnight: money!

Tang Li wasn't stupid. There were only three months left before she inherited her grandfather's estate, and Lu Chengyi was also eyeing it.

Since they're still reluctant to get a divorce, they might as well have some fun for the next three months...

Tang Li feigned grievance, "Mom, since Chengyi has already found happiness, I should let them be together."

"No! Lili, Mom would never agree to Ding Weiwei becoming our Lu family's daughter-in-law!"

"Yes, Weiwei is our benefactor. I'm just letting her stay at our house temporarily."

It's ridiculous! On one hand, they want to please her and keep her, but on the other hand, they can't bear to send that woman away and are trying to fool her like an idiot!

Tang Li sneered, her bright eyes filled with indifference.

"Temporary stay? Lu Chengyi, you brought a strange woman home and even confessed your feelings to her. Where do you put me, your wife?"

"I, Tang Li, am not worth suffering such injustice for a man. You think too highly of yourself!"

Lu Chengyi was startled. He had almost forgotten that Tang Li was the apple of the Tang family's eye and had been pampered like a precious jewel since childhood.

Lu Chengyi was getting anxious. Ding Weiwei had nowhere to stay after leaving the Lu family, and he knew she would refuse to rent a place.

Lu Chengyi hurriedly said, "Weiwei can't find a job in the city. I just want to bring her home and introduce her to a job. Lili, don't we happen to need a housekeeper?"

Tang Li narrowed her beautiful eyes slightly, looking arrogant.

"Chengyi, are you willing to let your savior become a housekeeper?"

Lu Chengyi's smile was guilty; how could he dare to utter a single word of dissent!

"Lili, look at what you're saying, of course I'm willing to part with it!"

He continued, "We're a match made in heaven. Grandma is so old, and she's currently resting in a villa halfway up the mountain. You don't want her to worry, do you?"
