Chapter 5 Fever

After eating the noodles, Su Liuer noticed that when Mrs. Wang paid the bill, it was a total of fifteen cents, three cents for a bowl of noodles and three cents for a fried egg.

The prices in this town are not cheap. A donkey cart only costs one penny to travel from the village to the town.

"It's still early. I want to buy some things. You can help carry them." Mrs. Wang said so and took the two of them to stroll around the town.

Qingxi Town is not big, and today is not a market day so there are not many people. The three of them walked and stopped here and there. Mrs. Wang said she wanted to buy something, so she bought a bag of rice and asked Su Liuer to carry it.

"Green bean soup to relieve the heat! One penny a bowl!" a vendor on the roadside shouted.

Mrs. Wang stopped, and Su Liuer and Zhu Hongan also stopped.

"Three bowls, please." Mrs. Wang gave three coins.

It was a scorching hot July, and the sun at noon was scorching hot. The business of selling mung bean soup was good. People bought it and stood by to drink a few sips. Although it was called mung bean soup, there were actually not many mung beans in a bowl, otherwise it would not be sold so cheaply.

But the cooled mung bean soup was still quite comfortable to drink. Su Liuer thought that this business was easy to do. It was just that there was no refrigerator here, otherwise it would definitely be very popular if it was chilled!

When Su Liuer thought of this, she suddenly felt a heat in her chest, as if something was burning!

During this time, Mrs. Wang had already walked a few steps. She turned back and said, "Why are you in a daze? If you don't walk now, you will miss the donkey cart." The donkey cart from the town to the village would run every half an hour.

Su Liuer touched her chest and found it was no longer hot. Since Mrs. Wang was waiting for her, she didn't want to delay any longer. She pulled Zhu Hongan and hurried to follow her. However, she was still wondering what that thing that suddenly became hot was. She remembered that the original owner seemed to be wearing a wooden pendant, but why did the wooden pendant become hot for no reason?

After returning to the village, Su Liuer had no plans to go back to the Zhu family. There was nothing of hers in that family that was worth her going back to get.

Su Liuer was still carrying the rice bought by Wang Pozi. Since Wang Pozi didn't want it back, she carried it all the way to Wang Pozi's house, put down the rice, and prepared to leave.

"Grandma Wang, today we are all thanks to you. We will repay your kindness to us mother and son later." I don't have the ability to repay you now, and I will be a burden if I stick to you any longer.

"Where are you going with the child?"

"I haven't decided yet." Su Liuer spoke frankly. She didn't know much about this village, so she really didn't know where to live right now. But there was always a place to live. If all else failed, she could just build a shed and live there for the time being.

Su Liuer has been trained and tempered since she was a child. In her opinion, any difficulty can be overcome.

But Mrs. Wang didn't think so. The girl looked like she would fall down with a gust of wind, and the child was as thin as a chick. Where could an orphan and a widow go?

"Don't run around with the kids until you've made up your mind. I have a room for you to stay in first. Leave as soon as you find a place to go." After saying this, Mrs. Wang took the rice and went to the kitchen.

Originally, Mrs. Wang lived with her daughter. After her daughter got married three years ago, she lived alone. The room given to Su Liuer and Zhu Hongan was her daughter Wang Fangfang's room.

"Take the child and wash him/herself. The mother and daughter are as dirty as beggars!" Mrs. Wang gave Su Liuer a stack of clothes with a look of disgust.

"Thank you, mother-in-law!" Su Liuer said sweetly. Mrs. Wang snorted and went back to her room.

Mrs. Wang gave four sets of clothes, two for adults and two for children. However, the clothes the child wore were obviously for girls and should have been the clothes that Mrs. Wang's daughter wore when she was a child.

"Come on, mom will take you to take a bath!"
