Chapter 8 Confession
"Jingjing, don't let go. I'll keep you sheltered from the wind."
The sea breeze gently caressed the girl's hair, and even the ambiguous whispers between them were amplified, like the arrival of the humid spring, covering her heart with a layer of damp water droplets.
While teenagers are certainly sincere and straightforward, occasional brief moments of confusion can stimulate hormone secretion.
But having sailed alone for so long, she knew all too well that only she herself could be an eternal beacon.
She pretended not to hear and reached out to roll the car window open completely.
Suddenly, the sea breeze came down hard, making it difficult for her to even breathe. But it was also that suffocating feeling that made her mind clearer.
-
The two spent the entire National Day holiday in the park.
The massive influx of tourists during the National Day holiday, coupled with her superb painting skills, led to a chance encounter with a passing online influencer who took a picture and posted it online, resulting in a surge in orders and a substantial profit for Lin Yujing.
Because of her long, flowing hair, light blue cotton-linen dress, and natural beauty, she was both pure and radiant. Behind her stood a handsome, slightly roguish young man, constantly fanning her with a palm-leaf fan to cool her down.
As a result, it was wildly reposted by various marketing accounts with captions of pure and innocent campus romance, and it once dominated the headlines of major portal websites.
On the first day of school, Chu Yan held up his phone and turned to face the two of them, reading aloud the marketing post with great emotion: "Although it's already autumn after National Day, the love between young boys and girls will forever remain in the height of summer. The clear blue sea of Pengzhen cannot compare to the azure skirt of a girl; the cool and leisurely breeze cannot compare to the swaying palm-leaf fan of a boy. This moment of pure love, unique to youth, deserves to be remembered and frozen forever."
"Brother and sister-in-law, the hottest tourist attraction this year, even more so than Pengzhen, is your romance that the whole world knows about." Chu Yan was a linguistic genius, capable of both praise and sarcasm. "But I still have a question: is the sea in Pengzhen really not as beautiful as your azure dress, sister-in-law?"
Lin Yujing saw the video taken by the internet celebrity the night before school started. At that moment, the sea breeze gently lifted her skirt and swept it onto Chen Jingshu's calf. His hand, which was calmly waving a palm leaf fan, lost its rhythm, and his gaze shifted from the canvas to the top of her head.
The boy's lips curved into an irrepressible smile, brimming with sincere and pure affection. He didn't look at the spring scenery, for the spring scenery was already in his eyes.
"Why are you looking at me?" Lin Yujing lowered her head and poked at the pages of her book with her pen, but she could still feel Chen Jingshu's gaze, just like in the video. "My dress is a very light color."
"It's not pale, it's a very deep blue. I'll take you on a ferry ride at sea next time, then you'll see." Chen Jingshu stammered, "You... are really beautiful."
"Ah! Ah! Ah!" Chu Yan screamed like a chicken, clutching her heart. "Brother and sister-in-law, I'm applying to become your joint property after marriage. I don't want to do anything else, I just want to see young couples fall in love."
"..."
"All students are requested to attend the flag-raising ceremony in ten minutes, wearing their school uniforms." The sudden announcement from the school's broadcast interrupted Chu Yan's incessant ramblings about shipping couples.
"It's not Monday today, so why is there a flag-raising ceremony all of a sudden?"
"You don't know yet, the results of the provincial math competition have just been released."
-
The national anthem resounds with fervor, and under the red flag stand the vibrant pillars of the future.
Principal Yan Chunhua, with a kind and gentle smile, announced that Pengzhen No. 1 Middle School had selected three students to participate in the National Mathematical Olympiad Provincial Competition. They will compete for a spot in the Chinese National Training Team in late November.
"Congratulations to Chen Jingshu from the senior year for winning the provincial gold medal. Please come up to the stage to receive your award..." Yan Chunhua said, holding the microphone. "Zhou Zheng from the junior year and Zeng Yixing from the senior year have both won the provincial silver medal. Please come up to the stage to receive your awards."
Chen Jingshu walked towards the flagpole first. When he passed Lin Yujing, he slowed down and whispered, "Leader, the mission will be accomplished."
He stood in the sunlight, his blue and white autumn school uniform making the boy look handsome and cheerful.
Lin Yujing remembers that under the window of the bus that took the students to the exam, she told the boy to take back "the country".
"Respected teachers, dear classmates, good morning. I am Chen Jingshu from Class 1, Grade 12 Science. It is a great honor to speak as a student representative. Thank you for the school's nurturing..." Chen Jingshu recited the official words of thanks fluently, "Finally, I would like to express my special thanks to one person."
Pushing through the crowd, Chen Jingshu's gaze fell on Lin Yujing's face. His originally impassioned voice softened and deepened, like the chilled sparkling water in the park pavilion that day, "Thank you to my deskmate—Lin Yujing."
The students below the stage cheered and jeered. At this moment, the pure breeze of youth was in full bloom, grand and bright.
Even the heart of a young girl, long deprived of the sun, felt the intense light.
"Because of Lin, I felt a sense of security and protection for the first time, like an umbrella sheltering me from the rain and bringing me back to my childhood. And because of Lin, I have a greater goal to strive for. The story continues..."
"Wow! Is Chen Jingshu confessing his feelings?"
"That's so brave! Confessing in front of the whole school! I guess that's the confidence and arrogance of a top student."
However, Lin Yujing suddenly felt her eyes well up with tears.
It was as if a ray of light had ignited from the ashes of her childhood.
Similarly, there was a moment of anticipation for the future story, and the boy became her light.
"Lin Yujing." Yan Chunhua stood smiling beside Chen Jingshu. As a teacher, she only saw the boy's sincere innocence. "She is an art student who transferred to our Pengzhen No. 1 Middle School this year. Her grades are excellent in both her art and academic subjects. I hope you can help each other and reach a higher and farther stage together."
"Wow! Does this count as a couple personally blessed by the principal? Their relationship is so passionate!"
"This is the first time I've felt this so directly. I'm an NPC in a campus romance novel, classmate B, and that guy from the next class."
-
There was no evening self-study session that day, and the two agreed to go to Penghu to buy a gift for Chen Xuan.
After school, Chen Jingshu led her directly to the back gate of the school, where a green Harley-Davidson motorcycle was parked under a tree.
Chen Jingshu picked up a helmet to put it on her, but halfway through, it was blocked by her high ponytail.
He reached up from his elevated position and pulled down the hair tie.
In an instant, the girl's silky hair was blown about by the wind, and strands of hair passed through his palm as if being silently stirred.
"What's wrong?" Lin Yujing asked when she saw him pause for a moment.
Chen Jingshu's eyes flickered, his Adam's apple bobbing restrainedly against his school uniform collar. "No, your hair is messy."
Lin Yujing was silent for a moment, and for a moment her soul and flesh were growing wildly because of the boy. She could no longer control herself and looked directly into his eyes, "Then help me adjust it."
As if in some unspoken response, Chen Jingshu smiled brighter than the sky, and gently raised his hand to smooth her hair with his fingertips.
After putting on his helmet, Chen Jingshu started the engine and reached out his hand to her, saying, "Let me help you."
Lin Yujing placed one foot on the side pedal and felt the strength of Chen Jingshu's hand. Even after she was seated, his hand was still protecting her waist.
“It’ll be windy on the road later, you can hold me tight,” he said.
Lin Yujing's fingers first gripped the hem of his clothes, and then, the moment the car started, she was pushed back by the inertia, and her arms uncontrollably wrapped around his waist.
"Hold me like this?" The mischievous boy grinned wickedly, pressing down on her soft little hand. "It's safer this way. Don't let go."
Lin Yujing pursed her lips, as if she were greatly tempted, and even tilted her head to rest on his shoulder, "It's a bit windy."
“Jingjing, don’t let go. I can keep you from the wind.” He said it with absolute certainty.
A note from the author:
