Chapter 24: Baseline Examination

Chapter 24: Baseline Examination

No. 1 Middle School did not leave any room for maneuver at all, and the next day after the military training, there was a baseline test.

Lin Zixia finally changed out of his camouflage uniform and put on his school uniform, only to face the grand opening exams on the first day.

The seats in the classroom were not adjusted. Jiang Xu's original words were, "I believe that those who can get into No. 1 Middle School will not care about these little tricks. The results are for you to see. You know how you did. Your seat will not be moved."

Lin Zixia arrived not too early, so no one chatted. Instead, they sat at their desks, heads down, studying. As expected, top students are all self-disciplined.

She sat down at her seat and took out her notebook to look at her writing materials.

Lu Xiangye entered the classroom fifteen minutes before the exam started. He was wearing a blue and white school uniform, with a black bag slung across his shoulder, looking extremely lazy.

He walked to his seat, glanced at Lin Zixia who was concentrating on reviewing, and put a box of apple cider vinegar on her desk.

Looking at the extra box in front of him, Lin Zixia slowly raised his head, with obvious inquiry in his eyes.

Lu Xiangye felt a little uncomfortable. He was not good at apologizing, but the fact that he forced the girl to hit herself did have a big impact on him. It was something he had never encountered in the past ten years of his life.

"I just saw it on the way and bought an extra box."

Lin Zixia raised the corner of his eye slightly, "What about your box?"

Lu Xiangye remained calm, "I've finished drinking it."

Lin Zixia asked with a smile, "Is it delicious?"

"good."

Lin Zixia's eyes were filled with smiles, and her smart eyes were shining. "Thank you."

Not everyone can accept apple cider vinegar, but since he took the initiative to show goodwill, Lin Zixia decided not to argue with him.

After all, they are classmates, so she should be more generous.

Lu Xiangye looked at her with curved eyebrows and eyes, tilted his head and said "hmm" nonchalantly.

The two of them reconciled.

Lin Zixia put the steaming box into the desk, planning to drink it before his math test in the afternoon.

The first subject is Chinese.

The difficulty is not that great. Except for a few individual questions, everything is within the scope of junior high school knowledge, but the question types are all based on high school standards.

There was a difficult section in the classical Chinese reading, but the rest was within Lin Zixia's expectations.

The essay was also quite routine, with the theme of "Optimism and Pessimism." Lin Zixia hesitated for only a second before choosing between writing an exam essay and expressing his true thoughts.

She thought back to the material she had just read, and tried to make her writing rich, elegant, and positive.

She remembered writing in a weekly diary in junior high school, "I never seem to be truly happy. After laughing, I'm left with fatigue. It seems like I can talk to everyone, but it seems like I don't have any real friends."

"I long for intimacy, yet I resist it, struggling and growing amidst this contradiction. If I didn't have those blood ties and family ties, would I be able to live a freer and more spontaneous life?"

She will always remember the comment her Chinese teacher gave her: "Don't let your imagination run wild at such a young age. Be more positive."

That was the first time she tried to express her thoughts in words, tried to talk about her confusion and entanglement, just like a hedgehog trying to show its soft belly, longing for someone to treat it gently.

However, all that awaited her was indifference and criticism.

From then on, she wrapped her heart tightly with thorns.

Those who remain outside are only the so-called well-behaved, friendly and positive ones.

Before she could even think about it, she had already finished writing it. The essay was full of quotations, profound arguments, and a positive outlook. The examiner would probably like it.

Just after he finished writing, the bell for the last fifteen minutes rang. Lin Zixia caught a glimpse of Lu Xiangye out of the corner of his eye. He was frowning, holding the test paper with his left hand, and writing quickly with a black gel pen in his right hand, looking impatient.

It seems that this person doesn't like Chinese very much.

Lin Zixia picked up the paper, checked it once, and then put down his pen. He leaned on his elbow and stared out the window in a daze.

She liked her current position very much, in the corner of the last row, far away from the crowd, and no one would notice what she did.

The sun is shining outside the window, the shadows of the trees are swaying, the golden sunlight is jumping on the branches, and the cicadas are chirping, extremely noisy, but also exceptionally quiet.

After the bell rang to signal the end of the exam, everyone passed their papers one by one from the back to the front.

Cheng Zhiwei turned to look at her, "Xia Xia, I saw your composition, the handwriting is so beautiful!"

Lin Zixia curled her lips and said, "It's just written a little more neatly."

Cheng Zhiwei put away her pen and sighed, "I wish I could write as beautifully as you."

Before Lin Zixia could say anything, Cheng Zhiwei changed the subject, her tone eager to try, "Xia Xia, let's go to that braised chicken restaurant for lunch. I heard it tastes good!"

Lin Zixia breathed a sigh of relief, "Okay."

"Let's go too!" Wu You suddenly interrupted, "We're planning to eat that too, let's go together."

Lin Zixia glanced around in surprise. Lu Xiangye didn't object, and he had already stood up lazily and pulled the stool under the table.

Lin Zixia raised his eyebrows slightly. It turns out that going crazy occasionally is not only fun, but also effective.

The group went to the cafeteria.

Because of exams, there are only first-year high school students in the cafeteria now, but there is a queue at the window, so it seems the food tastes really good.

Lin Zixia ordered a slightly spicy dish, took the food tray and went to find a seat with Cheng Zhiwei.

Wu You and Li Senmiao went to the cold drink cabinet nearby and bought a few bottles of soda for everyone. Lu Xiangye then slowly came back with a plate and sat down opposite Lin Zixia.

"What are you drinking?"

There were two cans of drinks in front of the two men, a can of Sprite and a can of orange soda.

Lin Zixia hesitated for a second, "Orange soda."

Lu Xiangye nodded slightly, casually opened the can buckle, pushed the orange juice to her hand, and then took the Sprite and started drinking.

Lin Zixia looked at the opened soda beside him, paused, and said softly, "Thank you."

Lu Xiangye raised his eyebrows slightly and said nothing more.

Wu You and Cheng Zhiwei beside him were complaining that classical Chinese was too difficult.

"It's like a heavenly book, who can understand it?"

Cheng Zhiwei nodded in agreement. "Exactly. Times are progressing. Why should we learn classical Chinese? I'm not traveling back to ancient times."

Cheng Zhiwei loves reading novels, all kinds of them. Recently, she seems to be reading a novel about traveling back to ancient times to become a princess. Thinking of this, Lin Zixia lowered her head and smiled.

After all, the exam hasn't happened yet, so no one knows what the other person's true level is.

Lin Zixia eats slowly and doesn't want to keep everyone waiting, so she concentrates on eating while they are chatting.

"Brother Lu, are you ready to give everyone a little shock in the baseline test? Take first place in one fell swoop!" Wu You suddenly came over and asked.

Hearing this, Lin Zixia paused with his chopsticks and looked up at Lu Xiangye.

Lu Xiangye tilted his head and chuckled, his tone extremely arrogant, "What else?"
