Chapter 23 Cooperating with the Investigation
The sunlight poured into the house through the glass with window grilles. At 7 o'clock sharp, Chu Qiao opened his eyes on time.
There were murmurs of conversation outside.
Chu Qiao listened attentively.
Auntie: "Old man, such a big shipwreck, and such a big storm just two days ago, can a normal person survive?"
"I brought her a blanket yesterday and saw two big holes on her hands. Her clothes were torn..."
The village chief lowered his voice and said, "I think they were captured by pirates."
Auntie: "It can't be... those beasts. My poor daughter, I was looking for a wife for my silly nephew, Dalin."
Village chief: "Well, who says it's not true? It's quite pitiful. I'm just afraid of losing my innocence..."
The village chief winked at the aunt and stopped talking.
Chu Qiao was stunned and touched her head which still hurt. Did the old man and the old lady mistake her for a fallen girl?
Chu Qiao wanted to go out and explain, but he felt that it was unnecessary. After explaining, it would be even more troublesome if he brought that Dalin out.
She grabbed her tattered clothes from a bench nearby. The clothes were completely dry. In order to avoid suspicion from the village chief and the aunt, she changed into the tattered clothes, put her outdoor clothes back into the system, and walked out the door.
When the aunt saw Chu Qiao, she sighed softly and quickly served Chu Qiao a bowl of rice and two small yellow croakers.
Chu Qiao sat up straight, picked up the chopsticks, and finished everything in less than five minutes, leaving no residue.
It’s not that she hasn’t eaten for a long time and is so hungry, but because she still has her old habits, and all her actions have time, standards and methods.
The aunt and the village chief were stunned: "Daughter, wait a minute, there's more, I'll serve you more."
"No need, I..." Chu Qiao didn't finish his words. With a creaky sound, the door to the courtyard was pushed open, and a man in a military green police uniform walked in. "Did you call the police?"
The village chief glanced at Chu Qiao embarrassedly and quickly walked over to the police: "Yes, yes."
The village chief pulled the police aside and whispered, "I suspect this daughter has been captured by human traffickers or pirates. You guys are always catching pirates, so see if this daughter can help."
The male policeman came over and looked Chu Qiao up and down.
"Hello, I'm Zhao Siming from the Nanyang City Police Department. After dinner, please come back with me to the police station and cooperate with the investigation."
Chu Qiao was stunned. He put down the chopsticks in his hand, looked into Zhao Siming's eyes calmly, and asked, "Have I committed any crime?"
A sense of resistance and confidence came from Chu Qiao's eyes. Zhao Siming was a little surprised: "That's not what I meant. I'm just asking a few routine questions."
Chu Qiao nodded his chin lightly: "I'm done eating, I'm ready to cooperate at any time."
Zhao Siming made way for him: "Then we don't need to waste time, let's go now."
Chu Qiao turned around and said to the village chief and the aunt, "Thank you, village chief and aunt. I can't thank the brothers and sisters who rescued me in person, so please tell them for me."
The village chief and the aunt looked at Chu Qiao with pity in their eyes.
After saying goodbye to the two, Chu Qiao followed Zhao Siming to the edge of Kyushu Island.
Dabai was limping behind the two of them.
Zhao Siming originally thought it was an ordinary seabird, but later he gradually felt something was wrong.
"Following yours?"
Chu Qiao: "Yes, I want to take it with me."
Zhao Siming: "The police station is not a zoo."
Chu Qiao: "I'm sorry, I can't cooperate with your investigation."
Zhao Siming frowned and looked at Chu Qiao. Seeing that Chu Qiao had no intention of compromising, he said helplessly, "Leave it here first, and I'll send you to pick it up later."
Chu Qiao could actually understand him, as the guards on Mars had a stricter system than here.
She didn't intend to really make things difficult for Zhao Siming, so she turned around, picked up Dabai, and sent it back to the village chief's yard, asking him to take care of it.
The village chief also felt that it was not a good idea to call the police on his own initiative, so after Chu Qiao said this, he agreed without hesitation.
Zhao Si pointed to a speedboat. "Over there."
Chu Qiao stepped on it and instinctively went to the driver's seat.
Zhao Siming's arm quickly reached out to her shoulder. Chu Qiao's ears moved. The sound of the wind was getting closer, so she lowered her head and dodged.
"Officer Zhao, there's no need to get so excited. I'm just curious."
"It would be best."
Zhao Siming's speedboat driving skills are not very good, and he drives the boat in a twisted and clumsy way.
Chu Qiao resisted the urge to do it herself and opened the black bag. Inside was her drone.
"Officer Zhao, what time is it now?"
"It's half past eight. Why, you're already worrying about your bird right after I left?"
Chu Qiao didn't answer, but looked at the drone. She was worried that the drone would suddenly fly up and automatically start live broadcast at 8 o'clock, but there was no movement at all. Chu Qiao was a little confused.
"drop--"
System: "During the mission, the system automatically starts the live broadcast. During non-mission periods, the host needs to actively start the live broadcast."
Chu Qiao: "Can you give me an instruction manual so I can study it myself? Don't always do it after the fact."
System: “No.”
…
"We're here, come down."
Zhao Siming spoke in a low voice, and Chu Qiao responded and came down.
The two got into the police car parked on the shore. Zhao Siming's driving skills were much better than her speedboat driving skills. After a few drifts, the two came to a building painted white and blue.
Chu Qiao was invited into an office with only one desk and white walls all around.
Zhao Siming: "Don't be nervous, we are just trying to understand the situation and help you as much as possible."
Chu Qiao nodded: "Let's get started."
Zhao Siming pressed the recorder on the side: "What's your name?"
"Chu Qiao."
"age?"
"24, no, 23."
Zhao Siming frowned slightly and his voice immediately became serious.
"How old are you?"
Sorting out the memories in her mind, she finally understood what the broken system meant by memory confusion. She had saved all the overlapping memories of two people of the same age, but they were not two independent parallel lines. Instead, they were entangled together like a braid, and her mind was a mess.
"How old are you?"
Chu Qiao tried hard to find his current memories of this world in this twist.
"23 years old."
"What's your profession?"
The thought of "Martian Guard" flashed through Chu Qiao's mind, but she suppressed it and did not say it out loud.
"Staff."
"Which flight attendant?"
"passenger ship."
"Who did you meet during the shipwreck?" Because Chu Qiao got stuck on the first question, Zhao Siming became suspicious of her. He stared into her eyes, trying to see something from her expression.
Chu Qiao supported his head with his hands and took deep breaths to relieve the pain in his head.
Zhao Siming pressed on: "Is this question difficult to answer?"
Chu Qiao: "I've only seen people from Kyushu Island, no one else"
Chu Qiao had cold sweat on his head and his cheeks and neck were flushed.
"What's wrong?"
Chu Qiao put his hand down, making himself look normal: "Officer Zhao, please continue asking."
Zhao Siming saw the wound on her hand. The village chief had mentioned that she had a wound when he called the police, but he didn't take it seriously. Only when he saw it with his own eyes did he realize that it was not a minor injury.
"What happened to your hand?"
"Nothing? What exactly does Officer Zhao want to ask?" Chu Qiao was a little impatient at this time and said coldly.
"Let me take you to the hospital first. Your hand is infected."
Chu Qiao did not object. With her current confused memory, she did not want to answer any questions from Zhao Siming, so as not to say something that would shock the world.
