Chapter 53: Rescuing the Wolf Cub
On a bare big rock, Chu Qiao finally found the little guy trapped in the smoke and wailing!
Chu Qiao recognized it as a wolf cub at first glance. There was a black teardrop-shaped spot on its head, just like Erlang Shen.
Chu Qiao coughed while observing the surrounding environment!
There were fewer plants around this place, so the fire did not spread. There was only thick smoke that trapped the wolf cubs.
As soon as the little wolf recognized Chu Qiao, it howled even louder. It grabbed Chu Qiao's trouser leg and dragged him towards the fire.
But the little guy's foot seemed to be injured and he couldn't pull Chu Qiao at all.
Chu Qiao looked in the direction it was dragging.
Even though she had seen many similar scenes, she still felt palpitations.
In the dim flames, a female wolf was being eroded by the fire, and her body had turned completely black.
When Chu Qiao looked over, the wolf mother's body twitched and then she didn't move!
It was too late to save him. Chu Qiao knew it was too late without going over.
A gust of wind blew, and the flames became more rampant. She picked up the wolf cub and ran out against the wind.
The little wolf cub struggled, and its four little hooves kept kicking Chu Qiao's chest.
Chu Qiao ignored her and continued running forward. She covered the wolf cub's mouth and nose with the wet cloth. She had no protection now and had to get out quickly.
"hiss--"
Chu Qiao felt a sharp pain in his arm.
The little wolf cub couldn't struggle and actually bit Chu Qiao's arm through the cloth. Although the bite was not deep, it was still painful.
Chu Qiao frowned and hit the little wolf cub hard on the butt.
"You ungrateful bastard, if you move again, I'll make you into soup."
I don’t know if it was because Chu Qiao’s expression was too scary, or if the threatening words worked.
The little wolf cub seemed to know that he had done something wrong, and he stopped moving and stayed obediently in Chu Qiao's arms.
Before he walked out of the thick smoke, Chu Qiao heard a rustling sound.
"Who?"
Chu Qiao turned around and saw a dozen men in orange fire suits putting out the fire with fire extinguishers.
"I came here to have fun, and I'm stuck."
Chu Qiao spoke.
"What is this? A dog?"
Chu Qiao was dumbfounded. The little wolf cub looked so domineering, did he look like a dog?
"It's not a dog, it's a wolf. I rescued it."
The leading firefighter was skeptical and nodded to the back. A fully armed man came over and said, "Give it to me. I'm from the wildlife rescue station."
Chu Qiao nodded. This was a good thing. She had no equipment now and could not take care of herself.
Xiaolang howled and refused to leave. Chu Qiao petted him and said, "Stop barking. It'll be safe once you get out."
The little wolf then shut up.
The man left with the wolf cub in his arms.
The leading firefighter ordered: "Follow him and go out together."
Chu Qiao was about to nod.
A voice came from the other end: "Captain Qin, the fire is getting bigger. We don't have enough manpower. Reinforcements are on the way."
Chu Qiao couldn't see Captain Qin's expression, but from his stiff body, he could clearly feel his uneasiness and anxiety.
Captain Qin suddenly shouted at the top of his lungs, "Even if there's only one person left, you have to hold on! Build a fire line around the perimeter immediately."
Captain Qin turned around and was about to leave. After walking a few meters, he turned around and saw Chu Qiao still there. He yelled at Chu Qiao, "Why don't you leave? Stop causing trouble for us."
Chu Qiao suddenly had an idea. If he turned around and followed the rescue team back, the mission would fail! The fire department was short of manpower right now, so why not help them and complete the mission at the same time?
Captain Qin was furious and roared, "What are you still standing there for? Come on, take her away."
Chu Qiao said seriously, "Captain Qin, do you have any firefighter uniforms left? Can you give me one?"
Captain Qin frowned and gritted his teeth as he said, "We have a mission to complete. Leave quickly. The soldiers don't have enough protective suits, so we can't give them to you. Don't waste our time."
Chu Qiao frowned and raised his voice three points higher: "I want to help put out the fire, Captain Qin, don't waste time, I'm trained and a professional."
Captain Qin opened his mouth slightly, looked at Chu Qiao, and hesitated. This was not in accordance with the rules.
Chu Qiao: "Hurry up, it's too late. Don't worry, I will take responsibility if there is any problem."
Captain Qin gritted his teeth and threw a set of protective clothing to Chu Qiao, and also threw her a fire extinguisher with a long pipe.
"Follow us, establish a firebreak now."
"Can you operate it?"
Chu Qiao put on his fire suit with ease, glanced at the fire extinguisher, and nodded with a serious expression, "Yes."
She followed Captain Qin and sprayed water in the area around the fire, wetting all the dry leaves and dead grass.
"Master Chu, why don't you use the fire method you just used to build a fire line?"
Many people in the live broadcast room were asking this question.
Chu Qiao was three meters away from Captain Qin. She explained in a low voice, "If there's enough water, this method of establishing a firebreak is more reliable. Using fire to establish a firebreak could backfire if the fire isn't controlled."
It was already dark and all the firefighters were exhausted. The fire was more serious than Chu Qiao had imagined, and the fire line that needed to be built around the fire was unusually long.
The fire suits were very heavy, and the young firefighters' faces were covered in black dust. They were hunched over from time to time due to exhaustion.
Chu Qiao was not in much better condition. She was injured and had barely eaten for a day. She was relying on her willpower to persevere.
Captain Qin originally thought that she was just a showpiece and a vase, and had no hope for her.
However, during the break, Captain Qin saw that his soldiers could not bear it anymore and several of them collapsed from exhaustion, but Chu Qiao was still sitting upright.
Captain Qin couldn't help but look at her with admiration. It was so rare for a woman, who was not as good as a man in terms of physical functions and other aspects, to be able to achieve this.
Captain Qin was a rough man with a simple personality. He would obey whoever had the ability. He stared at Chu Qiao's only eye that was exposed.
"Here they come, our people are here."
When the alarm sounded, the soldiers stood up one after another, and the fatigue on their faces disappeared unconsciously.
The work efficiency of the more than 30 newly transferred firefighters has been greatly improved.
Everyone worked side by side and finally completed the establishment of the fire line in the middle of the night.
Thick smoke billowed. Some of the fire spots had been extinguished, but a few were still burning. Newly reinforced firefighting teams were working on the scene.
Captain Qin took Chu Qiao and his own team members out of the mountain first.
Chu Qiao took off his heavy fire suit.
Following behind, staggering.
"What's wrong? Do you want something to eat? Xiao Li, get some food."
Chu Qiao shook his head. The system stipulated that food given by humans could not be eaten. He had finally made it this far and could not let it go to waste.
She licked her cracked lips and said without question: "Captain Qin, no need, let's go down the mountain."
Qin Chao couldn't persuade her, so he stopped forcing her.
