☆91. Chapter 91: Cat Corpse

Chapter 91: Cat Corpse

Animal Society five days later.

Mo Tao punched in as usual, went to work, and waited for today's animal reception list.

“Squeak—”

The door was pushed open, and the president's new secretary, Liu Xiaoyan, twisted her waist, her figure protruding from the front and back. Her colleagues unconsciously moved their heads as her skirt swayed.

The sunlight filtered through the window and fell on Mo Tao's brow. He frowned slightly, rubbed his nose, and felt suffocated by the smell of perfume emanating from Secretary Liu.

Mo Tao opened the window and turned around and asked, "Secretary Liu, are there any animals you need to pick up today?"

Secretary Liu said in a coquettish voice, "No, but if you need anything, here it is for you."

Liu Xiaoyan handed the list to Mo Tao, twisted his waist, turned around and walked out under everyone's gaze.

Mo Tao nodded and picked up the form. On the form were the wolf cubs and two cats that died of illness.

The cat died of infectious peritonitis and the request was to find a place to bury it as soon as possible. The wolf cub was sent to an apartment near the city.

Mo Tao's face darkened and his mood immediately became much lower.

One reason was that two more cats died, and the other reason was that the wolf cub had to be sent away. Given the wolf cub's personality, who could tolerate it?

Mo Tao wanted to go to the president's office to inquire about the situation, but he took a step forward and then took it back.

How could he, a poor student who had just graduated, have the courage to resist his boss?

Mo Tao took off his glasses, lowered his head and said nothing.

"Xiao Mo, why don't you leave? It's so unlucky to leave two dead cats in the association." Secretary Liu stood at the office door again without knowing when, leaning against the door frame. His voice was neither too loud nor too soft, just enough for everyone to hear.

Mo Tao said nothing and walked out of the office with his head down.

Two cats were wrapped in black plastic bags and lying on the ground, and the wolf cub was turning around restlessly in the big cage.

A colleague saw Mo Tao and pointed at the cage and plastic bag on the ground.

"I'll leave it to you."

Mo Tao carried the cage into the car alone, carefully held the bodies of the two cats, and placed them on the passenger seat.

In the suburbs where Mo Tao planned to bury the cat, he passed by the apartment where the wolf cub was going and drove to the apartment.

Chu Qiao and Feng Ge were already waiting at the door. They originally wanted to use the excuse of picking up the wolf cub to investigate the situation inside the Animal Rescue Association, but President Zhang was very cautious and rejected their proposal.

In order to avoid arousing President Zhang's suspicion, Chu Qiao and the others gave up this proposal.

Chu Qiao deliberately chose the back door of the apartment where there were fewer people.

When Mo Tao got off the car, Chu Qiao saw him at a glance.

"Mr. Mo, here."

When Mo Tao saw Shi Chuqiao, he scratched his head unconsciously, with a barely perceptible sense of relaxation on his face: "Just call me Xiao Mo, Miss Chu? Why is it you?"

Chu Qiao: "It can't be me?"

Mo Tao waved his hands in panic: "That's not what I meant. I thought they sold the wolf cub."

Feng Ge muttered: "Yes, it was sold."

Chu Qiao smiled and said, "It did cost some money, but the little wolf cub is not used to the life in your association and is suffering there."

Mo Tao nodded in agreement: "That's true. I don't know what's wrong with the little wolf cub. He's aggressive towards everyone except me. He was quite docile at the beginning."

Chu Qiao narrowed his eyes, as if thinking about something.

“Ouch—”

Perhaps because of Chu Qiao's voice, the little wolf cub started to make a fuss in the car.

Chu Qiao strode over: "I'm coming."

Mo Tao followed and saw that the little wolf cub excitedly poked its head out of the cage when it saw Chu Qiao.

Chu Qiao: "Okay, okay, don't move. I'll hold you later."

Mo Tao hesitated and suddenly asked, "You will treat it well, right?"

Brother Feng said impatiently: "What do you think? This wolf's life was saved by my Chu Qiao. What are you asking?"

Chu Qiao stopped Feng Ge and promised Mo Tao seriously, "I will."

Chu Qiao and Mo Tao lifted the cage down. Chu Qiao suddenly saw the black plastic bag on Mo Tao's passenger seat. Some animal hair was sticking out from the gap of the bag's handle.

Chu Qiao gave Brother Feng a look.

Brother Feng blinked, immediately stepped forward and opened the bag, which scared Lianlian so much that she took several steps back.

"Chu, Chu, dead... dead cat..." Brother Feng was careless in words but not very courageous. He was so scared that he squatted on the ground.

Mo Tao hurried over.

"Sorry, sorry, I didn't put it away properly, sorry."

Brother Feng: "You let two of them die in broad daylight..."

Chu Qiao frowned and said sternly: "Morning..."

Brother Feng suddenly fell silent, curled his lips, and stood aside with an unconvinced look on his face.

Chu Qiao walked over to the passenger seat, opened the bag, and asked as he examined it, "Are you planning to bury it?"

Mo Tao said embarrassedly: "Yes, the rear compartment is hard, and the passenger seat is softer, so..."

A soft spot in Chu Qiao's heart seemed to be touched, and he said softly, "Have you chosen a place?"

Mo Tao: "I want to go to the mountains near the suburbs, find a place with water and flowers."

Chu Qiao nodded: "They will like it."

Brother Feng watched the conversation between the two and realized that he had just been too aggressive. He slowly moved forward and said, "Xiao Mo, why are these two cats gone?"

Mo Tao: "My colleagues said it was peritonitis and told us to bury it quickly."

Chu Qiao paused as he was petting the cat, then suddenly took the cat out and said, "It's not peritonitis."

Mo Tao was stunned: "What is that?"

Chu Qiao pinched one of the stiff cats, but found that the cat, which should have been stiff all over, could actually sway back and forth easily from the middle part.

Mo Tao studied veterinary medicine in college. He narrowed his eyes and said, "The spine is broken."

Chu Qiao nodded and touched the other one, which was in almost the same position. It was also broken and had many small wounds on it.

Brother Feng looked at Mo Tao, his eyes filled with anger: "Is this how your association rescues animals?"

Mo Tao opened his mouth, but didn't know what to say. He was speechless facing the two corpses.

Chu Qiao looked at his surprise and self-blame, stood up and pulled Feng Ge over.

"It has nothing to do with him."

Brother Feng: "He works there, how could he not know? Chu, don't be too soft-hearted, maybe he is just pretending."

Chu Qiao shook his head. "Only people who truly love animals would want to give their dead animals a good burial place. Only people who place animal carcasses on the passenger seat, fearing they might feel uncomfortable, would worry about whether the animals they send away are being treated well."

Brother Feng put away his cockfighting expression and suddenly whispered in Chu Qiao's ear, "Do you think he will help us?"

Chu Qiao's eyes lit up: "Looking for evidence?"

The two looked at each other knowingly.

Mo Tao was in a conflicted mood at the moment. He never expected that such a thing would happen in the animal rescue association that he had always wanted to join.

Mo Tao brought the two cats back to the passenger seat and placed them carefully.

Turning to Chu Qiao, he said, "Miss Chu, please take good care of the little wolf cub. I... I might change jobs in the future..."

Chu Qiao was stunned. Escape? This is not the way adults solve problems!

Her brows were tightly furrowed, but looking at Mo Tao's dejected expression, she could also understand the helplessness and weakness of a person who had just entered society.
