Just then, a squeaking sound broke the silence.
Lu Fan and An Lan looked in the direction of the sound and saw the Monkey King swaggering into the shelter with two little monkeys.
The monkey king looked very majestic. Its fur shimmered with a brown sheen in the sunlight, and its tail was held high, as if it were declaring its territorial sovereignty to the world.
What's even more striking is that it's tightly clutching a plump rabbit in its hand, which is struggling but unable to break free.
Lu Fan's eyes lit up, thinking to himself, "Wow, is the Monkey King here to give us a big gift? If this rabbit were roasted, it would taste absolutely amazing."
He stood up with a smile, ready to receive this "surprise".
But when he got closer to the Monkey King, he found that something seemed a little off.
The Monkey King did not hand the rabbit to Lu Fan as he had imagined.
Instead, it waved the rabbit around while gesturing at the stove, pots, and pans, making all sorts of strange noises.
The two little monkeys were also jumping around nearby, seemingly helping the monkey king convey some message.
"What... does this mean?" An Lan also walked over, looking at the scene in front of her with a puzzled expression.
Lu Fan scratched his head, carefully observing the Monkey King's movements.
Suddenly, he realized something and laughed, "Haha, I get it! This monkey king is tired of eating raw meat and wants to try cooked meat. He's come to ask us to help him roast the meat!"
An Lan couldn't help but laugh: "I didn't expect this monkey to be so lucky, knowing that we can make delicious food here."
Having understood the Monkey King's intentions, Lu Fan naturally prepared to show his skills without saying a word.
He first took the rabbit from the monkey king, which was still struggling frantically.
Lu Fan gently patted its head and soothed it, "Don't fuss. I'll turn you into a delicious meal in a bit, and I guarantee you won't have lived in vain."
Next came processing the rabbit. Lu Fan skillfully picked up a knife and began skinning the rabbit.
As he peeled the food, he muttered, "I never thought I'd be cooking for monkeys. How strange."
The movements were so skillful, it was like performing an art piece; in no time, the rabbit skin was completely peeled off.
Anlan helped prepare the seasonings. She picked out some wild onions, wild garlic and unknown herbs from the stored spices. These were all "treasure spices" that they had found in the wilderness.
She chopped the spices, mixed them together, and they gave off a unique aroma.
“With these seasonings, this roasted rabbit will smell so good it will attract all the animals in the forest,” An Lan said with a smile.
"That won't do. If everyone comes to steal our food, we won't have anything to eat," Lu Fan joked in response.
After preparing the rabbit, Lu Fan found a tree branch, skewered the rabbit, and placed it on the stove to roast.
He kept turning the branch to ensure the rabbit was heated evenly. The flames licked the rabbit meat, and soon it began to sizzle and release its oil, filling the air with a fragrant aroma.
The Monkey King and two little monkeys sat to one side, their eyes fixed on the roasted rabbit, their mouths practically watering.
The monkey king would occasionally lean in to sniff, making "squeak" sounds, as if urging Lu Fan: "Hurry up, hurry up, I can't wait any longer."
"Don't rush, don't rush, good food takes time to arrive."
Lu Fan smiled and spoke to the Monkey King as if the Monkey King could understand him.
As time went by, the roasted rabbit turned a tempting golden color, with an enticing caramel hue on its surface.
The aroma was irresistible, making one's mouth water. Big Black was also drawn by the smell; it lay down beside it, its eyes fixed on the roasted rabbit, its tail wagging incessantly.
"Alright, that's about enough."
Lu Fan looked at the roasted rabbit and nodded in satisfaction.
He took the roasted rabbit off the stove, placed it on a clean stone slab, and cut it into small pieces with a knife.
The monkey king couldn't wait any longer. It reached out to grab a piece of rabbit meat, but it was burned and squeaked, so it quickly pulled its hand back.
"Haha, you can't rush things." Lu Fan laughed and handed the monkey king a leaf, gesturing for it to wrap it in the leaf before eating.
The Monkey King took the leaf and, imitating Lu Fan, carefully picked up a piece of rabbit meat and put it in his mouth.
Its eyes lit up instantly, and it chewed while making satisfied noises. The two little monkeys also rushed forward, vying to eat the rabbit meat.
Seeing the Monkey King enjoying his meal so much, Lu Fan and An Lan felt a great sense of accomplishment.
While the Monkey King was enjoying its meal, Lu Fan and An Lan chatted with it.
Although they couldn't understand the Monkey King's words, and the Monkey King couldn't understand theirs, they seemed to have established a wonderful way of communicating through gestures and expressions.
"Do you think the Monkey King will often bring food to us for roasting in the future?" An Lan asked with a smile.
"That's hard to say. If that's the case, our shelter will become a 'wilderness gourmet restaurant'," Lu Fan joked.
After finishing the roasted rabbit, the Monkey King seemed to still be enjoying it.
It circled the stove a few times, then looked at the drying nuts, seemingly pondering what kind of food to bring for Lu Fan and the others to process next time.
Suddenly, Lu Fan had an idea.
Monkeys are known to have a very strong ability to explore in nature. With their innate physical advantages, they can go to places that other animals cannot.
The key is that they are very clever, and I might be able to get them to help me find supplies.
Thinking of this, Lu Fan picked up a piece of meat and asked the Monkey King, "Monkey, do you still want to eat roasted meat in the future?"
The Monkey King stared intently at the roasted meat, gesturing excitedly as if to say, "Think about it! Think about it!"
Seeing the Monkey King's excited expression, Lu Fan smiled.
"If you help me find something, I'll grill some meat for you."
After saying that, Lu Fan gave the Monkey King a fruit, then took the fruit back into his own hand, and then handed the roasted meat to the Monkey King.
"Exchange, do you understand?"
With Lu Fan's repeated prompting, the Monkey King finally understood what Lu Fan meant.
It patted its chest as if to say, "As long as you grill meat for me, I'll find you anything."
An Lan was also surprised: "This monkey king is so smart! We won't lack fruit from now on."
Lu Fan smiled and said, "Let's broaden our perspective. Why does it have to be about fruit?"
Then he picked up a piece of black charcoal from beside the fire and showed it to the Monkey King.
"Find this black stone, and I'll grill some meat for you."
Lu Fan picked up another stone and handed it to the Monkey King along with the charcoal.
The monkey king lowered its head to observe, and after thinking for a while, it patted its chest with full confidence.
"You want it to help us find coal mines?"
