Chapter 238 Discovery of Rice Ears
Lu Fan and An Lan, along with Da Hei, plunged into the dense jungle.
Sunlight filters through layers of branches and leaves, casting dappled patterns of light and shadow on the ground, like a mysterious totem meticulously drawn by nature.
Big Black was so excited that it ran around in front of and behind the two of them.
Lu Fan and An Lan weaved through the green maze, their eyes like searchlights, not missing a single corner.
They eagerly anticipate stumbling upon precious supplies or rare resources.
They carefully parted the vines blocking their path, examining each peculiar plant closely, hoping to find useful clues.
However, more than two hours passed, and apart from the unlucky pheasant that Lu Fan had accidentally caught, they had gained nothing.
[Wilderness Survival Announcement]
Chinese contestant Lu Fan triggers a 10,000-fold return.
[Healthy wild pheasant * 10 million]
An Lan's forehead was covered with fine beads of sweat, and a few strands of hair were stuck to her cheeks with sweat, which made her skin look even whiter.
Seeing this, Lu Fan felt a pang of heartache and quickly looked for a relatively shady spot nearby to rest.
Soon they found a flat, large rock and sat down.
Lu Fan took out a bamboo tube filled with water from his basket and handed it to An Lan, saying softly, "Here, have a sip of water to calm down."
After saying that, he took out a few tissues and gently wiped the sweat from Anlan's forehead.
An Lan pretended not to realize what was happening and continued drinking her water.
After wiping away his sweat, Lu Fan looked regretful and muttered under his breath, "If I had known it would be this hard, I would never have let you come with me to suffer like this."
Upon hearing this, An Lan's eyes widened immediately, and she retorted, feigning anger, "Don't underestimate me. I'm not some delicate, fragile young lady. In this wilderness, I'm no worse than you!"
As he spoke, he defiantly flexed his muscles.
Just as the two were bickering, a brightly colored parrot fluttered its wings and landed lightly on a branch not far away.
Its feathers are dazzling, shimmering with a captivating luster under the sunlight.
Big Black instantly perked up and stood up with a "whoosh".
With its front paws on the ground, it adopted a hunting posture, eager to catch the beautiful bird.
Lu Fan reacted quickly, pressing down on Da Hei's head and saying with a wry smile, "What are you doing? I caught you but you're not going to eat me."
Big Black was pinned down and could only lie helplessly on the ground, its eyes darting around, clearly still thinking about the parrot.
Perhaps influenced by Lu Fan's innate affinity for animals, the parrot tilted its head and curiously looked at them.
Instead of being scared away by Big Black's actions, they cautiously approached.
"Lu Fan, look!"
An Lan suddenly patted Lu Fan excitedly, pointed at the parrot, and her voice trembled slightly with excitement.
The parrot held a plump stalk of rice in its beak, the golden grains shimmering enticingly in the sunlight.
Lu Fan and An Lan's eyes widened instantly, and they were so excited they almost jumped up, as if they had seen a clear spring in the desert.
Lu Fan walked a few steps to the parrot. The parrot tilted its head and looked at him calmly, showing no intention of running away.
Lu Fan quickly stretched out his hand, pointing to the rice stalks at the parrot and then to the distance, while muttering something to himself.
"Hey, tell us quickly, where did you get these rice ears?"
But the parrot couldn't possibly understand his complex communication method that combined "sign language" and "bird language".
She just tilted her head, looking at him innocently, occasionally preening her beautiful feathers with her paws, as if to say, "What are you saying? I don't understand."
Lu Fan was so anxious that he scratched his head and cheeks, wishing he could jump up and yell, "You stupid bird, can't you understand human language?!"
As he spoke, his emotions ran high, and he unconsciously exuded a hint of "fierceness."
The parrot seemed to sense danger, and with a start, it flapped its wings and flew away in a flash.
"Damn it, get back here!!"
Lu Fan shouted, instinctively grabbed An Lan's hand, and took off after her.
Although the two of them already had noodles as a staple food, they were both native southerners and their love for rice was ingrained in their bones.
"Big Black, catch it right now!"
At Lu Fan's command, Dahei shot off like an arrow, its speed as fast as a black lightning bolt.
A man, a dog, and a bird—thus unfolded a comical and lively "bird-chasing spectacle" in the jungle.
Lu Fan was running too fast, and a tree branch snagged his clothes, but he didn't care. He pulled hard and continued to rush forward.
An Lan followed behind, panting, shouting as she ran, "Lu Fan, slow down, be careful not to fall!"
After a long and arduous chase, the parrot was exhausted from being pursued by the two people and the dog.
Finally, it could no longer fly.
Fluttering its colorful wings, it landed on a thick tree branch, its chest heaving violently as it gasped for breath, looking utterly pathetic.
Big Black was an expert hunter; it approached silently and slowly.
Every step was taken with utmost care, as light as a falling leaf, as if afraid of startling the "precious" parrot in front of her.
Seizing the opportunity, the big black dog suddenly exerted force with its hind legs, leaping high into the air like a black cannonball, and with a "thud," directly knocked the parrot to the ground.
The parrot had never seen anything like this before, and it immediately started squawking in a shrill, urgent voice, as if desperately crying out, "Help! Help!"
Lu Fan, who was close behind, was extremely anxious. He ran as fast as he could and shouted at the top of his lungs, "Big Black, take it easy! Don't kill it!"
Upon hearing its master's command, Dahei behaved obediently, loosening its grip slightly, picking up the parrot, and running excitedly to Lu Fan.
It put the parrot on the ground and gently pressed it down with its claws, its tail wagging like a propeller.
He looked at Lu Fan with a smug expression, his eyes seeming to say, "Master, look at me, aren't I amazing!"
At this moment, An Lan also rushed over, panting heavily, her hands on her knees, looking as if she had just finished running a marathon.
Seeing this, Lu Fan quickly put Dahei and the parrot aside and rushed to An Lan's side, his eyes scanning her like a sensitive mine detector.
He gently touched her face, asking anxiously, "How are you? Are you alright? Did you get scratched by a branch?"
His adoring yet concerned demeanor made An Lan both amused and annoyed. She laughed and slapped his hand away, scolding him, "Can't you be normal for once? I'm not some fragile paper doll!"
Lu Fan chuckled twice, scratched his head sheepishly, and then remembered that he still had important business to attend to.
He bent down, gently picked up the still-shaken parrot, and began to "interrogate" it.
The parrot, which had just escaped from the clutches of the wolf, trembled like a leaf in Lu Fan's hands, its small eyes filled with fear.
Lu Fan held up the rice stalk and waved it in front of the parrot, saying in an extremely gentle voice, "Hey, tell me quickly, where did you find this rice stalk? You're dead if you don't tell me."
